I actually always liked him. He was the first person that didn't straight away go to 'hey you're an elf', instead seeing my warden as a woman.

Didn't stop me from telling him off every time when I clicked on him I got....'Do this...do that' Gotta love his sass

He made me laugh with his snark towards the mage...Especially the " I will name one of my children after you....The grumpy one"line had me laughing out loud! Then came the "sneaky...witch-thief"and the "Zap! frog time"and of course the "swooping is bad" classic. Not to mention that he became my favourite DA male character before even completing my first playthrough.

Loved him. Immediately. Also thought he was hard to befriend (my first warden was a male and I DID NOT KNOW you couldn't romance him as a male  ). But then I realized I was just speaking to him all wrong.

I liked him a lot. I thought he was sweet and kind. My first game was as a mage and I never put him as king. My gut feeling was not only did he not want it but he would not be a good leader. I thought he would be best away from all that nonsense and he should stay as sweet as he was. I didn't harden him because I felt that he should stay a sweet guy rather than toughen up or he'd be like Duncan. He and leliana are the two in the game that care about other people, all people, not just upset regarding their race or something that relates to them. It was hard to not like him. But I did find some of his jokes or the end of his responses a bit much. He gets a little too goofy during initial romances, but after you have him, it's yes dear rather than the total goofy awkwardness as before, probably because he was a chantry boy and not really good with women... you know... asking if they are female and all.

Very first game I didn't dig enough into the situation at redcliffe and sacrificed the mom, which I really didn't feel bad about because of how many people died as a result of her actions... but at camp, he was furious. I was so put off by that. It really annoyed me because it was my decision and he left it in my hands but then gets pissed about the results, which is why I continue to say he would really be a horrible king. Anyway, I started a new game and deleted that one. Sometimes he would seem like a jerk because of his sensitivity or responses. He was kind of an odd duck really. Now, as much as I like him, I sacrifice points at times and call him on his whining BS then get him a gift later or something. He strikes me more as someone who needs to learn when to not be a tool or when he is whining even if it hurts his feelings a little. Not being cruel but just pointing out that he is whining a lot though not on the Duncan subject because even if the game is six months time frame to get through most of the Duncan comments, that's not a long time for him to be upset at the loss. It actually seems normal except that it comes up often in a game that we play over hours.

I thought he was pretty funny. And that's an opinion has stood the test of time.

Didn't think he was terribly interesting at first but one thing I admired was how his VA is so good that it made him a joy to listen to. I was able to get over my qualms very easily, thanks to that.

now i think into it more started back dragon age in 2011 and from what you said. i remember i was sad on why he started yelling at me after the events of redcliffe and trying to convince him i did the best i could and also i had low persuade....at the time playing elf warrior now im always playing a noble rogue xD.

Funny within that playthrough i did was not knowing i couldnt still be in romance after the landsmeet.....since i wasnt a noble female and wow i tried left and right for him to still be in realationship with me it was crazy. xD so its a good thing to know now that i rather be a human female noble rogue and just always fall in love with him.

Honesty of how ive evolved through dragon age x]

I immediately thought " THAT VOICE". Then that was it. There was no end to my fangirling which is something I've never done before. And I'd tell you guys more but I think you would call me loony then.

Replaying DAO and yeah "Oooh the snark meister. We'll get along just fine." Then I realized he was S&S (Bleh) and got a respec mod. He and my 2HDer warrior got along just fine.

When I met Alistair he made quite an impression. I thought he was funny and smart, and that it would be a real pleasure to have him on the team. I also thought that his alignment was lawful good, just to show you the extent of how wrong I was on all counts.

@ Ryzaki: nice sig!

The very first impression was that he had a sense of humour - but he ruined it almost the next second. Alistair has sense of humour when he is making fun of someone - but Maker forbid you do the same and joke at his account. It's immediately dissapproval. It was one of the main reasons why all my Wardens ended with Zev, even females specifically created to date Alistair. I only romanced him once - for the achievement and even that romance didn't last. >.>

And oh yes, the Redcliffe tantrum. In my second play,  my Warden offered to go the Tower. But  Alistair said, it might not be wise to leave Connor. He talked me out of it. Isolde sacrificed herself. And then in camp, he threw a tantrum and blamed the Warden. It took me a long time to overcome that.

Thanks XD

Though yeah Alistair can get prickly but so can all of the companions. That said the Redcliffe incident is when my rogue wanted to drop kick him. Thankfully she was a rogue and the "So it's about you and the arl and not me at all right?" choice put him in his place. But Alistair has really odd choices that give you massive disapproval. The others at least are consistent. One moment Alistair's fine with you prodding at him the next you're getting -20 approval. O_o

At one point you can even tell him to stop whining and at another to pull himself together, without incurring disapproval. That doesn't change the fact that his normal, typical reaction to something like that is major disapproval (more than three times as much as for cold-blooded murder). Not to mention that joking with him is not safe, as even the most innocent banter can make him go all starry eyed.

I don't think he disapproves of the "royal bastard" line. Though I should look that up I suppose.

Edit: Actually, that apparently sends him one point in the right direction.

It may be. :)

To make it clear - I don't hate Alistair. But it's usually difficult for me to be a good friend with him. The most approval I had with him, was around 70, and that was because I was thinking about what reply could please him. That's too tiring for me. As a result, my Wardens usually see him and treat him like a 'little brother'. >.>

I remembered getting +2 on the biiitch part which was really a surprise. And I was really trying hard to romance zev for achievement. That will not hapen if he continues being nice to me. Not that I don't like zev, its just that in real life he is not someone I'd go fo romantically but a friend.

See, this is weird because the first time I did it, he threw a tantrum. I just did it again today and he was totally fine. So I think the prerequisite might be to not have another mage present and to have already been to the tower. Those things were not how it was for me the first time I did it. But this time, it mattered not at all. Same response as if I saved both of them. I was expecting him to throw a fit. Even had a few gifts ready to repair the disapproval. But nope. He was fine with it. So there must be some factor involved in what triggers him to respond that way unless it was some bizarre glitch... but if you look up online, there is no negative dialogue listed for sacrificing isolade. So there must be specific factors build in that change it or perhaps it's a bug that he freaks regarding her at all. Not really sure. I wonder if others have killed her and had him be fine with it.

Or maybe because you had the option to go to the tower but chose not to. I never went that route this time. But I didn't realize I could the first time either. There must be something that triggers it or it is a bug.

@Xetykins:

The 'achievements' have nothing to do with romance - they are purely about tent time. Takes about half a minute, except for Zevran whom you have to beat off with a stick from the word go in any case.
