I love Dark-spawn, but they need to become more horrifying, not forgettable fodder.

Ugly is not scary, darkness and malice are scary. Being malevolent, is terrifying.

I don't care about the designs, I prefer each type of darkspawn to be more unique in their scariness.

Awakening did this right. After playing that game I was horrified, and sick of those abominations.

DA2 made me feel like dork-spawn are just annoying random goofs who just wont go away. They were kirkwall thugs in costume

DA2 armors can be a bit too much

but I like progress though, Origins were too generic, and needed to change

Awakening were better,(armored ogre)

Naked darkspawn should be present too, it would make a little bit more sense if you think about it, (resources, and smithing skills)

In fact, naked darkspawn would be even more creepy, adding to their bizarre, knowing they have no genitals

Ghouls in awakening were creepy like zombies.... that woman....that scream...terrifying

Darkspawn should give us a sense of no hope

bioware, we should be trying to avoid them rather than wanting to cut though them

You did it with mass effect's reaper forces, the husks, the banshees, you can do it again

I thought the "children" were pretty scary in Awakening. To me, "horrifying" is more on how big of a threat they are to me, not what they look like.

The thing about the darkspawn is that even though they are this horrible near-unstoppable force, they don't feel like it. They should be like the Reapers in terms of showmanship. The Reapers really make it clear to the player that they are going to kill you no matter what you do, and that alone makes the triumph over them much more satisfying.

Want a little full frontal assault from the darkspawn hordes, eh? That could either be horrifying or hilarious. Either way, I'm in.

Darkspawn Dicks for DAI!

If they didn't have genitals, then why would they wear loincloths?

Darkspawn should not just be thrown into a game. They are an antagonistic part of the lore, maybe a part of a timed gauntlet. That would be awesome.

I think the look of the creatures is fine, they need to resemble the species that they came from otherwise it will throw the lore off. But the game mechanics could be used in a different want to make darkspawn encounters more terrifying, like the timed gauntlet idea.

Being able to take your time with the darkspawn encounters might work against them being frightening because it's not putting any stress on you.

Darkspawn will never be scary. They are a faceless horde you mow down.

The lead up to the broodmother was creepy, but the broodmother herself was another punching bag.

Yes. They are the zombies of Dragon Age and video games have removed the scare factor from them IMO.

That's the problem,

or maybe that's what bio-ware wants it to be *sigh

I have to admit they did an excellent job with the reveal of the Broodmother.  I was really creeped out by that rhyme and the bloody, grotesque blobs.  Then the reveal and you make the connection of how the Darkspawn breed.  Yeah, excellent job!!!

To lazy to look for it but *insert standup slow clap here*

The darkspawn are not particularly scary individually. What's makes them intimidating as foes is their sheer numbers, their unrelenting brutality and their corruption - the darkspawn can kill you just by being near you, albeit in a somewhat delayed fashion.

But since we wont be witnessing that brutality first hand in inquisition, (we will be busy pummeling them) why don't them make the darkspawn taint more terrifying

Reapers Forces, like husks, and those asari things from mass effect, be honest

Well, I doubt the darkspawn will be anything more than the odd random encounter in DAI, so I don't think working a lot of "companion gets tainted" subplots into the game are really necessary.

once  maybe, husks made me go, "oh something to shoot besides gasbags"  zombies are just zombies not matter what you call them

banshees are good for a jump scare but other wise are just another elite mook. any stealthy enemy can do the same.

Xenomorphs. No matter how many times you see them in movies or games, Xenomorphs always give pretty much everyone a little fear.

If they're way stronger and have the chance to actually taint you and you get a nonstandard game over it would be scarier. That and overwhelm. That's the scariest thing ever.

true, but considering what the were designed to be the personification of. I don't blame anyone.

Yeah, they were designed to be the scariest science fiction creature ever made, and the designers did amazingly well.

random game over are... not a good idea and that is the only nice to put it. and no i play games that random fights can do kill you in short order even prepared if you screw up. it still become boring to beat them by the 1000s once you know how. and I hate to break to some people but dragon age is just not that complex. hard fight means bloated hp bars. maybe a few good attacks for bosses.

And now bioware needs to design the scariest fantasy fiction creature ever.....come on

are they still on romances, and designing flowers, girly dresses, and ballrooms?

No matter how the darkspawn are designed and redesigned, they'll never quite strike fear into the player. At best, they'll look cooler, and at worst, they'll look like the character designers are trying way too hard. An example of a really creepy, effective monster in a recent video game is the clicker of The Last Of Us. They're basically just zombies with greater strength, but part of what makes them so creepy is that they run around in the dark making that horrible noise, on top of having that grotesque fungus growing out of their faces.

It's not how the darkspawn look that would make them creepier, it's how the deep roads are made that would do it. Imagine the tunnels being much darker, and genlock rogues slink out of the darkness quietly behind you.

Well, they plan on having dark caves now so hopefully something that that can happen. Imagine Shrieks darting around in the darkness.
