I love Dark-spawn, but they need to become more horrifying, not forgettable fodder.

Maybe the can change Dark-spawn look... i mean we had the orc LOTR style in the first one, the zombie one in the second one...maybe a more demonic style for the third one?  :D

Yup! Creepy enough! Give them glowing red eyes and they are perfect!

yes, and more hellish features,

(a chubby, scarring physique, with filth, and blood covering their faces, and body. Not fancy armor)

I agree. A mix between DAO and DA2 would suffice

Agreed. Doesn't it say that they feed the females flesh from people? Also they,"Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew." That sounds like plenty of "violation" to me. It doesn't even have to be remotely sexual.

And pray tell, what proof do you have of "darkspawn genitals"? We only know that broodmothers have the capabilities to reproduce, and they are merely ghouls.

Exactly. That could mean various things.

And Broodmothers spawn asexually, like how a Queen insect does for her Drones.

I'm just getting used to those disgusting broodmothers. Don't need no more disturbing monstrosities to add to the darkspawn's repulsive implications.

leave them as is, if they must be altered merge the two games' conceptions of the darkspawn together.

I know right? That is some of the most lazily made armour designs I have ever seen. I like the Darkspawn's eyes in that concept art but they really need to bring back the badass armour designs from Origins.

Ridiculous.

How else are we supposed to know if something is evil and/or badass if it doesn't have spikes?

I actually thouht the DA2 Hurlock Alphas were much more intimidating in appearance. The whole "They've eaten off their own lips" thing was a good touch to adding fear of those creatures.

solution, they need more diversity in appearance, kind of like the did in origins and awakening, not hordes of clones

I disagree. Since they are spawned in the same fashion as hive insects, being clones is exactly what they should look like.

I meant armors that they wear, since it would be weird to see a perfect dark-spawn smith who can replicate the same armors thousands of times. They could change the filth, markings, and scars of elites though

Ah, okay. Sorry I thought you meant their appearance as in their bodies.

well the armor being exactly the same is kind of just a game-design vs. story design issue. it would be harder for them to make a variety of armors for the darkspawn even though lore wise it would be more accurate. they would have to reallocate funds that would go elsewhere, like story writing, or quest implementation.

screw the story writing and quest implementation, I just want every mook to have unique armor and I wont mind playing a beat'em up game.

I would prefer complexity over scare-factor. I'd rather find my enemies intriguing than terrifying because after you've killed 50 dark spawn, it's just not that scary anymore. They're just another cannon fodder species to give the player something to kill in vast amounts and not feel guilty about it

Which is why I liked the idea of dark spawn that aren't a part of the mindless mob of evil. Too bad they're probably turning everybody into dark spawn anyway.

lore wise i believe in the book the calling they said the dark spawn pieced together whatever armor they scavenged, so i would like to see some really strange combinations of armor, but i understand they cant do that for every single darkspawn.... that would cost way too much

They need to bring back the lizard grin.  I found that extremely unsettling on a humanoid face.  They also seemed ... bulkier in Origins than in DA2.  They may not have been too scary in Origins, but at least I didn't laugh at them the way I did in DA2.

I think it's hard to make a monster that you're going to run into a game more often then once, horrifying. The more you see it, the less scary it becomes (even in horror games that are successful in the fear like Amnesia eventually looses the fear because you get so sick of running into the grunts and they loose the fear) They need a special way of build up to actually make an impact, and I never really saw them as scary when they came in formation army standing off the first time you saw them. I always thought they where supposed to be impressive gross army beasts, but demons take the cake for being a creepy threat (until they where abused to death in DAII and made their threat weakened considerably)

They would need to be strong but not in a frustrating way, eerie and less run right at you I think. A tricky battle of high tensions, where it can out smart you I think would bring in the horror to fighting them. And have to make them rare, which would kind of be hard to do with the Darkspawn, since they're supposed to be an overwhelming force.

The only thing horrifying about them honestly is the amount of them, and the rarely touched upon.

I was actually fine with the Darkspawns' appearance in DA2.  I liked the pale flesh oozing with corruptions.  It'll be interesting to see how they look with the Frostbyte 2 engine.
