Just finished a replay of ME3, and was reminded of something that has bugged me since launch.

In ME3 you can hear news reports that reflect your prgoress and choices in the game. They're ambient background conversation throughout the Citadel, and are on a loop so you don't miss any. With one exception.

There is a category of news stories that only play in the Spectre Office in the Embassies. They appear to be triggered by progress through the game, only play one time and then never again, and are often drowned out by the other ambient sounds in the area. Curiosity about these stories eats at me everytime I go back to ME3.

The ones I've noticed are:

-one about the raloi leaving the Citadel and destroying their spaceflight capabilities.

-one about Kaidan being inducted into the Spectres.

-one about the volus being grateful to the krogan for trying to kick the Reapers off Irune.

-one about Caleston (which I know the least about)

-one about how people should fight the Reapers.

All of them are signed off with "from across the Milky Way, this is the Alliance News Network."

So which ones have I missed? Is there a comprehensive list or transcript of them? And at what points in the game do they trigger?

EDIT: There is also a story reporting the death of Diana Allers if she's kicked off the Normandy, or is never allowed on it.

Strange... I don't remember any of those and I'm pretty sure I've checked the Spectre terminal quite often.

I do remember one about quarian pilgrim purchasing large amount of supplies for the Fleet and a large number of pilgrims being recalled back to the Flottila, but that's about it.

The OP means the news broadcasts playing in the background. You can hear them everytime you're in there.

I did mean the news playing in the background, but my experience has been (over multiple playthroughs) that they only trigger once per game.

It's really hard to hear them.

Google a phrase from one and you might be able to find subtitle files.

"And now, an ANN editorial comment: We've heard nonstop news about massacres on our homeworlds. But let's not forget that we've survived heavy losses before. Rachni consumed salarian colonies. Quarians lived through the unthinkable slaughter of the Morning War. Periods of ethnic cleansing have darkened the corners of human history. But we're a galaxy of survivors. Despite threats both organic and synthetic, we've endured. Some wonder if submitting to the Reapers will save them. To you, I ask: What were the Reapers doing during all those years in dark space? They were hiding, waiting until the right moment. And anything that hides knows what fear is. They fear us, because if we get the upper hand, there won't be any more Reapers. This is Iris Dunnigan for Battlespace. Goodnight, and do your part."

If someone cares to dig with ME3 Explorer, I think dialogue is kept in .tlk files.

Thanks for the link, I found a few of the stories I was asking about.

The one about Caleston I've heard:

"Attempted sabotage of the domed city of Syneu was thwarted by Calestonian defense forces. Security Master General Atrius Tarn credits the timely action to a tip-off from a maintenance worker. Tarn has come under recent criticism for his creation of internment camps for Caleston's human minority."

An alternate version of the same I've not heard before:

"Cerberus has struck again, this time on the colony of Caleston. The dome covering the city of Syneu was sabotaged, causing an untold number of residents to be suffocated. Disruption to element zero mining on Caleston is driving prices up throughout the Traverse."

One about the Krogan on Irune:

"Krogan troops have joined the turian fleets defending the volus homeworld of Irune. The krogan infantry, equipped with enviro-suits, dropped into key cities to combat the Reaper ground invasion. Vol Protectorate officials welcomed the additional forces in the corporate nation of Binar. Master tradesman Noval San declared: "For the Tuchanka-Clan, our darkest hour will be their finest.""

There's also an alternate line to how the volus react to the Krogan being on their planet:

"Master tradesman Noval San warned his people to barricade their homes, as fierce fighting and looting is expected."

Based on these, I now have a theory about which version of the stories plays. I remembered that if you kick Diana Allers off the Normandy, she is embedded on an Alliance ship and killed when it goes down, and that death is reported in these stories. This makes me think that these stories are affected by what persuade option (paragon or renegade) you use in Allers' interviews. If you paragon the krogan interview, the volus are happy to see them; if you renegade it, they're apprehensive. If you renegade the Cerberus coup interview, Caleston avoids being attacked; if you paragon it, Cerberus successfully attacks the planet. I wonder if there's one for the Geth or Quarians.

Two others in the link from DeinonSlayer:

"Grim news out of the Skyllian Verge tonight: The colony of Elysium has fallen to the Reapers. The prosperous colony held out longer than was thought possible, but Reaper reinforcements ultimately overwhelmed the humans. Experts fear that colonies within reach of Elysium's mass relay may be next."

I think I may have heard that one before. Here's one about the turian bomb on Tuchanka:

"A powerful explosion has rocked the krogan homeworld of Tuchanka. The megaton-scale blast devastated the Kelphic Valley, where krogan clans were negotiating a unification treaty."

I'm not sure if these are "Spectre office news stories", or just the normal ones you can hear anywhere on the Citadel.

The one about the Raloi does make me wonder if we'll see them in future. I can see why the devs did that, ME3 was not the time to be introducing new species. Now that the Reaper malarkey is done there might be more room for exploration and learning things like there was in ME1 and 2, so maybe they'll get an introduction.

Shouldn't the Spectre office news be put up on the Wiki? The raloi story appears there, but I don't see the others.

That would be useful. I came to the forums because I couldn't find anything about them on the wiki.
