Dagna says that the shortest route from Orzammar to the Circle takes 2 weeks and 4 days. How long then to run the other distances? Denerim to Redcliffe / Redcliffe to the tower / Highever to Ostagar etc? What would the disances be? Considering that the timeframe is approx. 12 months or according to the talkative man in DA2 under 2 years. I love this stuff but am no mathshead:)

I don't think the math works, or that the developers tried too hard to make it work.

One example, Anora tells the male Warden that they'll be married in two weeks, but they're newly married in Awakening 6 months later.

Teagan says it's one or two days to the Circle from Redcliffe, and if you follow the bloodied route you get to see on the map, that would make Fereleden really tiny, as you go all the way around Lake Calenhad.

And yet alistair says it's one day. I guess Alistair has us running.

It's clear that she sure did her work. And that none of the writers ever gave this more than say a minute of thought based on certain dialogue.

Time is confusing in Dragon Age. A few conversations after recruiting Wynne she'll tell a mage warden that it's been almost a year since laving the Circle. A year?!

Yeah, that's definitely the case with Jowan's timeline when playing a mage Warden.  I guess it's a mage thing. *shrugs*

I think Teagan said a days journey across the lake, maybe he meant in a boat? There are boats right there in Redcliffe, why not use a boat?

So, from Highever to Ostagar would take Duncan and Cousland Warden about 8 days of travel?

~~Edited~~ More like 16 days, I added wrong :P~~ That is walking at 2 miles an hour.

IIRC, Highever-to-Ostagar is closer to three weeks on foot... it's nearly 400 miles. (And my poor Warden would give anything for a horse at that point.)

I dearly missed horses in this game, and carriages (like in Skyrim). Would have made all this traveling more...realistic. Or at least a mule - can you imagine Alistair handling a stubborn mule?  ^_^

The incongruity in the distances vs the time frame presented becomes just ridiculous in the end game. Denerim is clear on the other side of the map from Redcliffe, yet everyone talks as if it is a day away. (And don't get me started on the side quests in Denerim that want to send you all the way to Orzammar, like it's just around the corner I'm looking at you Ignacio with you "Be a dear and pop over to the Orzammar palace and kill an ambassador m'kay?". I'VE GOT A LANDSMEET YOU SILLY CROW!!!!! /digression)

And oh yes, horses are the best. I'm playing an MMO these days (Neverwinter) and my toon jumps on her horse to move five feet.

This! At the beginning of the game I tried to play it how it would make the most sense travelling wise, but in the middle of the game it became obsolete. Travelling between the Circle and Redcliffe to gather more mages to save Connor is peanuts compared to the stupid travelling you have to do for quests you get in Denerim.

I also travelled all the way to Orzammar to get the nug for Leliana because it took me until the Landsmeet to get her approval that high...focus on the Blight my ass

Certainly a lot of work went into this. I have it now as desktop ;) Although I think that it would make Ferelden a bit small. ??

How can you really trust what Dagna says about travel time when she, at that point, has never left home.

Teagan says it's one or two days to the Circle from Redcliffe, and if you follow the bloodied route you get to see on the map, that would make Fereleden really tiny, as you go all the way around Lake Calenhad.

Yet it is suppose to be a 3 day forced march from Redcliffe to Denerim.  Sure there will be differences based off urgency but from looking at the map the Circle is less than half the distance even if you go all the way around.  And someone said in another thread that from Highever to Ostagar took a week and I doubt Duncan took his time smelling the flowers on his way there.  I don't think much thought was put into travel times when writing the story.  This is one the reasons I would have loved for this game to have been an open world with changing time like Skyrim or fallout games.
