I've recently started a new run through Mass Effect 3. I picked one of my saves to import that said I hadn't romanced anyone in ME2 because I wanted my female Shepard to go for Traynor.
However it turns out that if you continue a romance with Liara through the Shadowbroker DLC, it doesn't count as a romance on the import screen of ME3.
So Liara has just asked me if I want to continue with the romance, this is before I have even gone to Palavan, and to be honest I am genuinely torn.
I like the Liara romance but I also like the one with Traynor.
Rather than toss a coin to make the choice I thought I'd ask on here. Who do you think I should romance between them.
Traynor or Liara = You Decide for me.

Traynor because she is smarter, human and has a full head of hair. And of course better looking.

Do I really want to play devil's advocate here? Nah...
My take? Liara. For all the reasons Mike up there posted. Sure, she has no hair, but hey... scales, you know! Sexy! And yeah, she's alien... bonus right there.
And she can flay you alive... with her mind. Gotta respect the power! ![]()
Besides, how can you say no to this smile?

One vote each and a spam post. Didn't expect such quick replies.
Thanks to the people who contributed and a pox on the one who didn't.
I'll check back in an hour and take a tally from that. Knowing my luck though it'll still be a draw and I'll have to go for the coin toss after all

Samantha is my preference. It's comparatively light in tone with less content than Liara, but she's funny and charming and feels more emotionally present than Liara.

Just going to throw it out there. If Liara dies, the low EMS required to do so wouldn't be too good to Sam's health either!
Personally I'd go for Liara but both are good romances so it's whatever you feel you want at the time.

If your ems is between 1750-1900, T'soni will die in the beam run if you have her and Samantha will be alive when you see the memorial scene

I would say Samantha.
She has more interesting dialogue and is just a more compelling character.
Although her romance scene is....not great, the relationship as a whole is just fresher and more interesting.

Liara's romance lock in happens during her date on the Citadel, you don't have to decide on Palavan.
And Liara is much better, of course (but I prefer Kelly over Samantha as well).

Ah, I always thought that if the EMS was low enough to kill squadmates on the beam run then it would also result in the Normandy crash landing on the unknown planet where none survive. My mistake, getting the EMS boundaries mixed up.

If your ems is below 1750, the door to the Normandy won't open.

I know wnen you talk about her mother if I recall.
Why I want to decide now is simply this Shepard's mindset of not stringing two people along.
I do really dislike how hurt Liara sounds if you you go for someone else.

This is the reactions Liara has when Shepard chooses to be with someone else.

She mentions she still misses her. After that, you have the choice to confirm the relationship, or tell her you also just want to be friend. Of course, if you already jumped into shower with Traynor you already locked that romance in, so by that point, it's kinda moot.
Honestly? No matter what, I will always think Liara is better choice. But if you imported your save and romanced her before, it makes more sense for you to stick wtih Liara. And like you said, it's just low to let her down so little before the end. I too feel sad because she sounds so sad. Basically, you're throwing something permanent away for a quick fling. This is, of course, just my personal take on the situation. But my dislike for Traynor is not something I hide.
But if you started ME3 fresh and romanced no one before? Then Traynor is a valid choice. In that case, just listen to your heart.

The idea of asking someone else who to pursue in a romance is funny; even in a game. I've always been an exclusive Liaramancer so I don't know even know what the Traynor romance is like.
If you want to look at it more objectively then Liara is probably the most worthy of Shepard's love. She offers everything to Shepard; her friendship, her trust, her respect, her assistance, her empathy, her sympathy, her praise, her own welfare in trying to protect Shepard's corpse, and her love if Shepard wants it. She even is willing to wait for Shepard if Shepard finds someone else because she feels Shepard deserves to be happy. What other ME character does that?
While most of the crew at some point recite the "it's an honor serving with you" line, Liara's respect and concern comes from the heart.
"We may not say it so plainly but we're proud to be here, Shepard. And proud of you."
"Thank you for everything." (she says this up to 4 times)
"I hope the galaxy proves itself worthy of the effort you're putting into saving it."
"We finally have other leaders on our side but none will take us as far as you can."
"You succeed at odds most would never even take on. It's no wonder everyone wants you on their side. But I know it wears on you."
"You're alive again. I've got everything I want."
If that's not enough, Liara is so melancholy that I just want to hold her. Without Shepard she has nothing in her life but her work.

(spoilers)
I´d say Liara, because the scenes become more interesting, like the farewell on Earth when they kiss. Since you can bring Liara along for the missions, the relationship will also feature more scenes, specially with Leviathan and Citadel DLCs. And in case you´re fully renegade when you meet Aria, you can be kissed by her on Omega and Liara won´t know about it.
Besides, there´s more mystique, shall we say, to having an affair with a mono-gender alien (who looks and talks like a woman) than merely being a common military lesbian in space who seduces another alliance officer. That´s cheap, even silly. With Liara, is not mere lesbianism, and it´s not in any way a breach of protocol regarding fraternization between officers on a ship. She´s not Alliance, but a civil scientist, and a much more intelligent, interesting and (by now) even more secure person than Samantha. Traynor is no replacement for Liara. Damn, she´s not even a suitable replacement for Kelly.

Leviathan added very little in the departement of romance scenes... but what is there is first class. Those few simple lines are just marveolous and yes, you can simply feel the concern in Liara's voice. Some high quality voice acting going on there.
And the scene from the beam rush, when the Normandy extracts... that alone is worth sticking with Liara.
Also, when the war is over, there will be scenes like this:

So the hour has passed and unless I've counted wrongly, it's 5 to 4 in favour of Liara.
Thanks for all the input. I can finally start playing again ![]()

That evac scene was just an insult to the ones who romanced Samantha, Steve, Miranda and Jack. There was no reason for it especially since they already had a goodbye a short time ago. All they needed for that scene is to call for a shuttle when the area is clear and have Shepard continue to run to the beam without saying a word.
A big difference is T'soni has mental issues. She apparently likes removing armor from a corpse to display like its some kind of trophy in her apartment. And for some reason, which we may never know, she doesn't tell anyone that she gave the corpse to Cerberus. The biggest thing she has over Traynor is she's been in the previous games.

Crap, I missed out, except I am not sure I would have been able to vote either way. Both are good, both have their high points.
Liara pluses: full nudity, beam run, Cronos station
Liara minuses: totally akward lock in scene, blah Citadel content
Traynor pluses: great dialogue, Citadel interrupt, Citadel meet ups
Traynor minuses: no missions
