Since the subject came up recently, I just figured I'd make a quick and dirty video to share what I have found to be the simplest method of farming cover grabs for the challenge, if you really can't be bothered to do it the normal way.

And here it is.

I have seen a few other videos on the subject, and they tend to have a fair bit of moving around back and forth between two spots, a lot of possible ways it can be messed up. This method is pretty much guaranteed lots of grabs for minimal effort, no skill required, not really any thinking required, could probably be done by a particularly well trained chook.

You just get into position and mash the melee button until you die. Then you do it again. Repeat process maybe 5 times and you'll have your 250 grabs. Won't even take an hour.

As an added bonus you get lots of Husk points for the Reaper Mastery challenge.

Have fun completely trivialising that cover grab challenge... I guess?

EDIT: Apparently it's very important that you press against the right wall. Not only does it protect you from gunfire, but being too far to the left causes Husks to go around instead of over your cover, which quickly ruins everything.

Back in the days of pyro grabbing, all you had to do is take position on white at he stairs behind that little piece of cover by the wall just where the stairs turn downward. Until primes appeared you could grab everything.

^_^  For a long session of consecutive grabs like that I would prefer the salival version of ''Push it'' ;)

Not nearly as easy as you make it look like, I don't understand how you do it. Had to restart 9 or 10 times before I could get 5 grabs in one rounds, but then still one Husk made it over the obstacle even though I was mashing the melee button and I got swarmed. So my best result out of 10 games is 10 or 11 kills. I think it depends heavily on where they spawn.

I'd suggest having a TSol with a shotgun, so, in the off-chance a Husk does jump you, it'll get staggered and then you can shoot it off before it grabs you and before more approach.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant to add Proximity Mine in the post. I need coffee.

That's my favorite spot for grabs. I did my first solo against cerberus on dagger, and just went grab happy.

It really doesn't, though Marauders shooting at you as they work their way down the ramp can be a real pain.  I've done this several times when I'm close to finishing Combat Mastery, and it's all about getting the rhythm and position just right.  While I recognise that it's not the best/most appropriate use of the kit, the Krogan Sentinel is a good character to try this with, because he's such a tank and has TECH ARMOR if a husk does make it over the obstacle.  BatSol also excellent.

I'm usually more in need of husk kills than over-cover grabs, and it's worth going to this spot and picking them off with a scoped weapon if you want to hurry things up a bit, knowing you can just grab the ones who get close.

Nice work OP.

Marauders are not a problem. The problem is Husks that run around the obstacle, and Husks that make it over as you try to melee them (looks like lag, but on host?..).

I've never ever seen a husk run around the obstacle in all the hours I've sat in that spot - I think it's a unique place in the Mass Effect universe.  On some occasions it looks as though they're running around behind you, but they always spring back.  As for the ones that make it over the top, as I said, it's all about the rhythm, and it is very possible to kill every single enemy on wave 1 gold or wave 1 and 2 silver by over cover grab.  Give it another go - it's not like you have to waste any consumables trying.

I've tried some 20-25 times by now. They do run around every now and then, on Gold that means starting all over again. As for those who get over - there's clearly some bug with that, I press melee button a couple times but nothing happens.

Funny you should mention that. It was from my own ME2 days here that I learned my videos are better recieved if I put music in it, especially Tool.

You using the same settings? It's on Gold?

Are you pressed right up against the wall to the right hand side? You should be wedged into the corner.

You mashing melee? You have to mash it pretty fast when the enemies are lining up in an orderly queue, else some rude Husks can jump the line.

Other than that, I got no clue. Can't see why our expereience would differ much. We're both on the same platform. What character were you using? Shouldn't make a difference but I'll give it a go with whatever character you had and see if anything changes.

I'm not doing anything unusual. I had to repeat this method a bunch of times to make this video because I kept getting horrible frame rate drops (still got a few in this video, even). But it was all exactly the same no matter where the enemies spawned. It was also the same whether I was recording (30FPS) or not recording (60FPS). Sometimes I'd get overwhelemed earlier in the wave and get shot while Husks humped my face, it doesn't always go perfectly, but every attempt still got me dozens of grabs.

And in all the times I've ever tried it now and in the past, I don't think I have ever seen a Husk go around the obstacle. They go OVER it, if I'm too slow on the grab or there's just too many of them. But they don't go around. They just run into the left obstacle, stop to think for a moment and then run right into my open arms and grabby hands.

Gold, Reapers, Turian Sentinel - about as much the same as it gets :) Maybe I wasn't pressed to the right to the last possible millimeter, just like you wasn't on the vid. Oh yeah, I'm trying to mash. Maybe not fast enough...

For me, they go around much more often than they go over. It's just that if I finally get a good round when they don't tend to go around and I'm up to 10-15 grabs, one of them will eventually get over and finish the game.

It looks like there are no or almost no husks on W1 on Silver, as well as Bronze.

A quick look in cyonan's wave description file shows that wave 4 in bronze is ideal for husk grabbing without pain.

AHA!

I believe I've managed to replicate and understand your problem.

You are too far to the left.

It's that simple.

Turns out that if you're too far to the left, the Husks DO go around.

I'd better make note of that in the video description/annotation...

So try going further right. Like, so far right that any righter would change your perspective. Let me know if that fixes your problem. Actually, let me know either way.

I'm glad you've been able to offer LuckyStar some constructive advice, as I've been scratching my head over this.  On PS3 it really doesn't matter how precisely you position yourself, at least in my experience.  A husk has never ever gone around the side while I've been camped.  The thing that does happen sometimes is that enemies will stand on the other side of the obstacle but you won't get the grab animation - shoot or use a power instantly and it usually resets itself if you stagger them, but if you don't they'll (husks) be over to your side and you'll be in trouble in seconds.

Surviving until W4, though... Hm...

Not everyone can solo, even Bronze. At least I can have best score on Gold, but can't solo Bronze, not easily.

And guys, I did in no way intend with my posts in this topic to make you spend efforts figuring out what I'm doing wrong. Just pointing out that there might be some trouble and it may not happen exactly like the video shows.

I'm not sure that I would agree, as the budget of wave 1 gold is almost double that of wave 4 bronze, and it's available instantly.  There is no pain involved in hiding on Dagger - you're pretty much invincible in that spot once you get the hang of it.

If you're just looking to kill as many husks as possible, I would argue that silver is a more logical choice, as wave 3 on silver gives you 3 husks on the field at all times.  Total and utter Rage Mode delight if you don't care about getting grabs by that stage.
