(Thread necromancy)
I think you need to go more basic than this:
1. Correct proportions. No massive shoulders/hands and feet and tiny heads for females like DA:O.
2. Presets should be inspired by 'average faces' of several ethnicities. Studies have found that the average face isn't usually picked as the the most beautiful face in a lineup, but it is still always picked as being attractive. Provides a safe starting point e.g.:
3. Following this idea, face parts should be based on real people. Bioware usually picks one or two usable options then throws in a few random variations to make up the numbers, like those weird upside down eyes in Mass Effect. No one uses 90% of the options except when making "The adventures of Ugly Shepard".
4. Scaleable skeletons. I know people have said they won't do this, but in Skyrim, the talented and perverted modding community have made CC so customizable it's really not difficult to make a character look cool or beautiful, and by adding in a few basic body sliders, you get tons of variety with hardly any issues of clipping.
5. Basic/advanced CC. Many games sacrifice tons of sliders in the name of streamlining CC, so if you want a good looking face you have to open up the toolset to get access to all the options. A simple solution: have a few basic quick and easy sliders (all of which provide good-looking preset parts), and then a little 'advanced' tab, where people like me can then fine tune to our heart's content.
6. As other people have mentioned, variable lighting and sensible zoom. Daylight/moonlight/indoors. Flick between the three, turn your dude around a bit, zoom out and maybe play a couple of animations/sample cutscenes, and presto, you will never be disappointed when you get in game.
This deserves the attention of Bioware. You sir deserve a cookie! This is what Bioware needs to have for their CC base faces.

On top of my wish list:
- More hairstyles (especially for female characters). Less braids. Add some afro hairstyles.
- Colour wheel for hair/beard colour
- More variations of tatoos. Information about whether they're tevinter/dalish/dwarven/etc
- Beards that don't clip in the face
- Make all hairstyles available in the CC

*Epic snip*
While Black Desert has an amazing character creator, in-game it lacks the cinematic beefinest of DA plus the game is cross gen so limits it abit. Perhaps if the next installment is exclusively next gen more detail like this may show up probably ![]()

Borrow a character creator from an EA sports game. They have always been particularly good.
Lighting is the major problem. Frostbite is much better in that respect than the previous engine.

Except Madden. I want to choose a good preset and go from there with very detail and extensive tools and options. Not a generic, bland choice.

Haha, this CC is insane! People would be finishing their 97989483rd playthrough of DA:I before I'd even finished creating my character!
It is very amazing though, a game in itself!

There cinematics are also responsible for us almost having a repeat of da2s predetermined protagonist and little epic control of said character. I hate what it's done to modern games and place some blame on it and today's need to make a game LOOK incredible in a commercial above all else, for why ps4 games are rarely as good as a lot of ps2 games. Or Wii-U compared to N64.While Black Desert has an amazing character creator, in-game it lacks the cinematic beefinest of DA plus the game is cross gen so limits it abit. Not sure but are you saying that cinematics are ruining gaming?
....That is what you seem to be saying. DA O and ME 1 had cinematics and I think Cinematics have been around for years. Unless I am missing a very specific distinction you are making.

That the focus on it has gone to such an extent - over every non pointless aspect of games. Origins and ME1 had a fraction the cinematics and efforts for it compared to most games, they're good examples of the direction I think games need to go. A good example is the fact that when making origins they came up with the game and scripted it on Neverwinter Nights before really designing. They made sure it was a good game before a showy one. Today there seems to be an arms race of graphics and cinematics while few games are even enjoyable. Not sure but are you saying that cinematics are ruining gaming?

Voice acting fundamentally changes how RPGs play. Once you have voice acting, then cinematics are the defacto way to tell the story. Games like the Witcher get away with it because its not your character and thats very clear. You have multiple ways to guide the character through the story but its not your creation.
Games like DA2 rub up against that idea and its not a good fit since in cinematic the character is always going to do and say something you don't expect.

I would like:
-More variations in facial options. Ex-moles(and their placement), scars(same), maybe a birthmark?, tattoos
-Slider for the body types/No preset permanent body types for chosen specializations. Like Mages being more slight and willowy, Rogues being more muscular but still smaller, and Warriors being big, bulky and tall. I am small and short, and I also like to make my characters body similar to mine but I get no option for this if I don't want to be a Mage or Rogue.
-HAIR! Need more hairstyles and options ESPECIALLY for females! lol
I have more, but I'm sleepy lol

Better tattoos that are more elaborate and cover more than just the face. Maybe tattoos that go down the neck as well as the face and others that go down onto the shoulders.
EYE LINER!!!! PLEEEEEASE!!! not just eye shadow please bioware!!!!!!!!!!
This. I want to be able to able to add tattoos. Full sleeves for example would be very welcome.
