I'm really hoping for DHMG (the guy in my avi), Cullen, Iron Bull, or the Bearded Warden for the m/m options in DA: I.  Although, I'm bracing for Solas, given that he's a skinny elf and that's been my luck so far.....

I dunno, what Allan said about the hamster/banana thing, with Iron Bull being the hamster... I'm thinking you may luck out and get IB as the gay LI.  Or at least I sure hope so.  ;D

 

And I'd generally agree that I slightly prefer Fenris to Anders, and even then, much preferred a rivalmance just so I could ****** him off rather than placate his worldview.  XD

To each his own.  I find every male companion (and Cullen) to be attractive except for Solas.

 

In order:  DHMG, Cullen, Grey Warden, Varric, Iron Bull, Cole, and Solas.

 

Since Cole is confirmed out as an LI, there is literally no combination that would give me no guys who I don't find attractive.  I'm kind of bracing for the fact that Solas is going to end up as one of my choices, but even if the other option is Iron Bull, I'd be happy.  Best case scenario would DHMG and Cullen, though.

 

My list is similar to yours, except that I don't find cullen attractive at all (still better than solas though). My top of the list would be Iron bull and the grey warden, but those two are not likely to happen.

Just like you I'm trying of getting used to the idea that I'll get solas as a Li...sigh, and I had enough of elves as Lis on Dragon Age games.

I know how you feel; it's like the artists went out of their way to create some odd-looking guys (bald? pervy mustache? pinhead guy?). Cullen is the only one who fits the same mold as guys like Alistair, Anders, etc. And now they're limiting our choices even more. Greeeeeat. So there's a huge chance you'll get stuck with someone you don't find appealing at all, like on any level.

Well, to be fair, what they have said was (in response to a question about LIs) that there would be straight, gay, and bisexual characters.  People, including me, are assuming that this was in reference to LI's given the context. 

 

We still don't know how many LI's there will be, but the consensus is that there has to be at least 5 in order to give everyone an option in LI and still have a variety of sexualities.  Most people seem to assume that it's going to be a 2/2/2 split with 1 straight, bisexual, and gay LI of each gender, but others have correctly pointed out that it could also be something like a 1/3/1 split with a straight, bisexual, and gay LI of one gender and two bisexual LIs of the other gender.  This would still fit the criteria that we know:  variety of sexualities and everyone is getting a choice in LI.

 

I'm thinking that, given that Cullen is an NPC who will almost certainly be either straight or bisexual AND the overabundance of male characters, it's looking more and more likely that we will see three male LI's.  If that's the case, then I think it's also pretty likely that both of the remaining guys will be companions and, hopefully, that one of them will be gay.  Hence, our first openly gay male companion. 

 

Crossing my fingers that it's happening.  It's about time.  Out of the 60 LI's across the 10 Bioware games with romance, there has only been 1 gay male (Steve).  That's 1.6% of the LI population that's a gay male.  Where are the "realistic demographics" people to complain about that statistic.....?  Even the most conservative statistics that I've seen put the lowest percentage of self-reported and openly gay people at about 4%.  Some more liberal statistics have that number up closer to 10%.

i like the idea of 1/3/1 , i mean , i like it because now i worry a little about who's the guy who's gonna lead the gay relationship !! i don't want end up finding out it one of the character that don't appeal to me aleardy !! (which is soooo too bad) but at least with two bi , i have more chance ....specially with cullen !

but ,exactly how many male characters there will be are in the entire game ? i heard about secret charcaters ....cole being one of them already i think (though some one told me he's not romanceable ? what a shame !!a loss of a pretty face when we are in need  of them)  ...will there be more or all the characters are now out in the open?!

 

i know ,its about time . and your statistics are yet just about bioware !! others games are still not even thinking about the fact that this is a huge turning in the gamer's life !! knowing the fact that the gamer actually reflect himself when shaping his hero's looks or personality , or most of the time his fantasy, its will be a rather Huge step to open up into more realistic views of the gamer's world , his surrending and times he live in now . i heard the next final fantasy is going to include a gay character too !! but this one is still not confirmed yet !

 

So that why am very pleased with bioware !! there are not only improving themself in desing and storyline ,they also thought about making characters ...more real ,and there nothing more real than a whole party with differents personalities ,sexualities and convictions !!! just like in everyone's real life  !

and while am it ,am going to make it a personal affair to convince Cullen that templars order is broken and mages deserves their freedom like any others .thanks you Anders i'll pick up the flame of freedom ...

Purely by aesthetic preference, I would say it goes;

 

Dorian/Cole ---> Cullen -----------------------------------------------------> Solas 

 

And then everyone else is so far off the map they aren't registering. >__>

I think I agree, I like the idea of having characters who may not want to romance my character and characters who are interested.  I would love more options, but the 2/2/2 deal will work for me for now.   I really just like a variety of characters I can pretend to believe exist in that weird universe they gave me.

 

Whether or not I like the options for my female character or not, I'll cope. Though i hope there is a friendship road for most of them.  I really did love what they did with Sam and Steve.    

 

As far hotness, that's going to be much more complicated, since everyone has their own idea of hotness.   A good voice helps a lot.  Probably more important, for me, than the looks, otherwise Garrus would not have been a choice I'd have made.     

 

I have liked  Fenris, Kaidan, Alistair, Jack, Zev, Bastila, Carth, Sky, Merrill, Anders, well, all of them really, but DA2 had so many issues.  I know people complain about the "dead spouse/child/distrust" background, but I'll take that any day over the Fenris one night stand feeling and the guilty feeling I got letting Anders live.  <sigh>  But they are all interesting characters and I think, I'll have to settle for that, untill there is a game out there where you can design your character and your LI.  That might be interesting.

but come on, you must agree there are more "odd" characters than normale one (only speak of the males) , i mean at first i was asking for equality in the sexual orientations !,but now ,i found myself worried about the equality in the "looks" too !! and since i really look forward to experiment a truly gay character ,the first think i need is for my inquisitor to found him attractive, like so many above me worry about ! . even if brad pitt himself give his voice to solace i'll never be able to be more than a friend with him !! and i'll swear i'll be a nice friend !  but i need someone who'll make me swoon when flirting with my inquisitor !!

 

ahem... about fenris ,i agree with you ,in my first playthrough,(the one i actually stopped in the middle just after not only fenris but also my hawke thought it was a bad idea ) i didnt like the short and emotionless relationship with him.  But it was emotionless compared to Hawke and Anders relationship . i would love to enlight you but i already explaned it few post above ,about those who complained why anders always try to be with hawke eventhough the gamer is not interested. if you're interested its the seventh post in page 10.

abou the guilty part .... oh well after all to each his conviction i guess ^^ ,but if you see it from afar ,you'll see that his act was needed .In the end it could've never lasted ,someone if not Anders would have seen the dark hole templars and mages were falling into. its just that Anders had also justice now, a very powerful spirit, who see just like him the order being broken day by day ,and decided with Anders there will be no one like him to make a move. aww this is not really the place to discuss this ,and i don't want to get dragged into this debate here cause its a very wise debate [...]

Wow, I'm late to this one! As I've said before, I'm really hope there are multiple gay romance options! I don't want to get stuck going with the only gay character or abstaining! That's what happened in DAO! I was not attracted to Zevran at all! Not his personality or his appearance! In DA2 I thought initially you would only get to romance Anders as a male PC and was very pleasantly surprised that Fenris was also an option! He was more to my taste and it was nice to have choice!

 

Here's hoping male PC's can romance Cullen!!  

Am really sorry bioware, as much as you changed me forever with DA2 , introducing me to this whole mages case and the impact Anders character had in my gamer's life , i still haven't forget the big deception that was DA origin regarding romance .And the wound is still swollen since i just played DA this year.Zevran could have been gay but i'll still think it wouldnt have been the lovely romance i wanted for my hero. Only Inquisition will make up for the day i stoped playing origin for a week because of how unfair it was :'( you made me sad that day bioware ...slaying two archdemons wont make the hero of ferelden happy ;(

Same here! My fear is that us gay males are going to get stuck with him like we were with Zevran! Well, I shouldn't say we since I only speak for myself! Personally I'd like to be able to pick a partner, not go "well he's the only gay option so..."

 

Solas may end up being a great character, but from what I've seen so far he doesn't appeal to me! I'd love to have the freedom to choose!

ITT: I can't roleplay the opposite gender.

 

I can roleplay as a female character.  And, depending on the game, I can find it enjoyable.  In ME and ME 2, I played the first game as both male Shep and FemShep  However if there is the option to roleplay as an openly gay male character with romance options, then I absolutely cannot and will not roleplay as anything other than that.  I'd waited twenty years for the ability to do so and I have no interest in going back.

 

The "just play as another gender" argument completely misses a giant point.  I'm not interested in romancing a straight man.  I'm interested in romancing a gay or bisexual man.  Playing ME as FemShep and romancing Kaidan is a completely different experience than finally getting to romance him as a guy in ME 3.  If Kaidan had only been a m/f option in ME 3, I would never have romanced him because that type of romance isn't the type of experience that I'm interested in.

I completely agree.  It's why I just can't support the "DA: O model for romance".  I found it very unfair that I didn't get a choice where other players did.  It was particularly bad because I also found Zevran very unattractive in both ways as well.  I'm not a skinny, long-haired elf lover, in general, and that was compounded by the fact that he was clearly more interested in sleeping around (with women, particularly).  Just not what I am looking for in an m/m option.  It's not that he shouldn't be an m/m option, mind you, just that I would like to have a choice of someone else.

 

DA 2 was slightly better in that I got a choice, but they weren't really the best choices, imo.  I'll never complain about that choice, mind you.  However, Anders is pretty whiny (and again with the longer hair!) and Fenris is a skinny angsty elf.  I've romanced both and, while I prefer Fenris's romance in general, I think an Anders romance with my moderate male mage Hawke is a better story.

 no he's not . For one thing, Anders does far more than just talk about the Circle’s injustices. if he was just a whiner he wouldnt have blows up the Chantry,Talk about a man of action. A whiner does not do anything more than moan about their problems. Anders runs a free clinic for refugees and moonlights by helping mages escape the circle. He single-handedly starts a war that spreads to the rest of Thedas. He brought the plight of the mages to the forefront of every mind. He started a rebellion. Anders told people not to shove the horrors of the Circle under the rug anymore, and then he lit the damn carpet on fire to make sure they couldn’t do just that.

Does he complain? Yes. But about what? Not about trivialities like his tea getting cold. Hell, the man lives in filth and squalor and never asks Hawke for anything to make his life easier. In fact, when Hawke offers him coin for the maps to the Deep Road, Anders brushes it aside. No, what Anders objects to is the lack of basic human rights that all mages suffer. That’s kind of a big thing, and calling attention to it is not whining; it’s showing basic human decency.

i just couldnt let it pass , i hope you understood a little how deep the situation have been for him back in DA2.

 

oh and ,he didnt have very long hair ! i can imagine they can look long if he undo his little tie ,but they pretty sexy haha ,and despite that , his stubble still give him a manly look don't you think ?! i think they did a great job making him appear a still handsome man after his young warden times. with a balance between his blond yet pretty long hair and his grown up features ~ very sexy

DAO romances arent a model for sure ! but .....come on !! not the qunarii too xs ,he's like solace for me !! am soo a qunari right defender ,but ...i thought we had the same liking ;_; can you really see yourself with a qunari ? ...and about the bearded warden ....i don't know he look like he could be my father ... and the DHMG character...humm i don't know if am the only person who found his mustache rather ...odd... like some aristocrat from the 18eme century ...it doesnt quite fit in thedas don't you think !? why not cole ! he looks like the perfect troubled pretty character ! i rise my hope for him and Cullen of course ,he goes without saying ,the poor thing must be torn since the ending of DA2 !! after witnessing that evryone can fall for the whispering and be possessed even the strongest templar ,am sure he's gonna be interesting to see where he stands now , and will be even more interesting romancing him ,and even more ,on the rivalry side (if friendship and rivalry are gonna be again the way to romance ) haha ,being a mage for the mages gonna be ....interesting !

Okay, I get it.  You are an Anders fan.  Ultimately, he's the "canon" LI that I pick.  But in general, I'm kind of, just......meh on him.  I find him a little clingy, whiny, and annoying.  He's also pretty condescending and rude to Isabela and Merrill.  I don't hate him, but he's not even in the top half of m/m Bioware LIs in my opinion.

Yeah, I don't think we have the same liking at all.    My favorite is DHMG (his moustache is amazing, not odd), then Cullen (agreed, he's cute), then the Grey Warden (I might be old enough to be your father too, maybe.....), and then Iron Bull (hell yeah, I can see my character with a qunari because he's also a qunari......).  Cole (who has the mind of a child) and Solas (a skinny, hairless elf) aren't even in the running.
