Not sure if the benefit is worth the cost.  Setting this up, and the additional scripting and so forth, may not be worth it.  Especially if the existence of this ends up getting construed as allowing erasure, in which case people may not buy the game because they find it disrespectful.

 

Some people get really upset, but I'm not sure if it's significant enough to warrant extra work on our part to allow people to insulate themselves from the content.

 

Is there a cost for an LI off switch ?

I thought I read somewhere that Trans people make about 3% of America's population and gay or bisexual make up like 13-15%, but it was years ago and I can't remember where.

 

That wouldn't honestly surprise me. The more it becomes acceptable to talk about your identity and the more people feel safe honestly responding to these census polls, the more accurate an estimation of the percentage of LGBT people in the population we'll get. All that we know for sure from studies that say "3% of the population is LGBT" is that only 3% of the population felt safe/comfortable telling a stranger that they're LGBT.

Romances are already optional content. Why would Bioware put the time/effort/money into making them 'even MORE optional'? It's a total waste.

Honestly, why all of this effort just to hide optional content?  If it is "just content" as you keep saying, AkiKishi, then there is no reason to hang multiple layers of curtains over it.

Never underestimate 2 things. People's stupidity and their ability to blame anyone but themselves. But more importantly, you can't expect people who don't spend time here to be equipped to deal with things in the same way as those that are.

Speaking of Zevran, i really hope the new bi Li's are different then the "sex mad bisexual rogue" it's been in 2 games already & it gets really tiresome to me for obvious reasons.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear you can't even get that 'massage' invitation unless you didn't shut down his flirting? And if someone is so freaked out by s/s content, shouldn't they have already shut down his flirting looong before he makes his massage invitation?

Yeah, I meant to say it "wasn't subtle" but worded it all weird and later edited it.  I do that...

 

Anyway, yeah, Zevran's invitation was pretty obvious.  He even says that he'll do more than a massage

Because it's not Bioware's responsibility to teach its players basic social cues? If you really can't figure out that choosing the flirtatious dialogue marked with a big glowing heart means that the character might think you're interested in them... then I really don't know what to tell you. :/ 

 

It's not Bioware's responsibility to protect it's players from having Big Gay Panics™.

But if all of this is just to prevent outrage from a vocal minority that doesn't know how to deal with a character flirting with them, then how is a "solution" that will cause more outrage from other groups any sort of solution at all?  If all of this is just to avoid controversy, then your answer to that does anything but.
