I'm trying to figure out how offended I am by this. All I know for sure is that it's a non-zero amount.

Well, I hate that more than Blurred Lines but less than the right wing of congress.

If that helps you zero in any.

While I can see why people might be offended by Stephen the Lesbian, Harry Partridge is a comedian he makes funny videos.

Robin Thicke made a song with lyrics that could be taken directly from the text of a rape trail. I find that more offensive.

I'm not saying that comedian's get a free pass on their offensive material, but I think their intent matters more.

Personally I'm more offended by live comedians, televised on stage, using the N-word than I am by that animated rubbish on YouTube.  But what has all this got to do with the original post and in-game content?  Is this sort of thing not moderated?

I don't understand why that video is supposed to be funny. I don't care that it was made, I am not really interested in getting morally outraged at something like that but I just don't get it.

Bioware has already stated that because the N is so low for any given game, they are not concerned with a "realistic" representation of LGB people.  Allan has stated that in numerous posts and I believe David has as well.  They want to offer all players choice, which means that in any given game, there will have to be options for both gay men and lesbian women.  If there are only going to be 4-8 romances, it means that there needs to be at least 50% of the characters who are LGB in order to offer that choice to all players.  This is their stance.  It's not going to change.

Yes, the amount of LIs is so low that they could ALL be gay and I wouldn't consider it "unrealistic" when looking at a population distribution because it's not like we're polling the rest of Thedas on their sexual orientation.

The arbitrary nature of making a fixed number of love interests is significantly less realistic, but that's not going to change because of constraints imposed by game design.

Well, for pansexual I always saw it as like bisexual where there is physical attraction from near the beginning.

As a heterosexual I'm not sure if physical attraction is the basis for my sexuality.  It's not impossible for me to feel a particular man is more attractive than a particular woman, but there's no sexual connotations associated with accepting that someone may be pleasant looking.

I have, however, had sexual attraction with people that I didn't initially have.  Often it evolves out of some other type of relationship.  Not always.  I don't think that heterosexuality mandates that I find a person physically attractive to start.  It only mandates that the person has to be of the opposite sex.  The reasons it manifests vary case by case.

In my past, I've dated a pre-OP transgendered woman that still retained much of her masculine looks.  I've dated women that were just drop dead gorgeous in very feminine ways, one of which was a former punk model.  I've dated effeminate straight and bi men; more traditionally masculine men that were bisexual .  I've dated folks that considered themselves gender queer.   Now I'm married to a straight man that certainly looks and sounds like one.  Tall, deep voiced, and identifies 100% as male.  I know I'm comfortable with whatever my sexuality is, and I'm generally happy with who I am.

Tell me at least you're living in poverty or your children are a**holes. If not then i hate you, i hate you with such passion that can't even find words for it!

You can't just come here post things like that!!! i mean like dating punk model then marrying with tall deep voiced man, what's this, Fifty Shades of Grey?!?!?1! I'll be living in boondocks for years as some lame junior judge, deciding who owns that piece of land or this cow or or... :crying:

I have been away from this part of the forum for months (just finished the game today!) and am astonished to find that this thread is still here. Kind of amazing given how it started out.

I'm not sure how I feel on the subject. Personally, I'm a-okay with romances, but I've never enjoyed them as anything more than a light, fun little side venture available if I wish to pursue it. The romances in Mass Effect and Dragon Age are definitely more in-depth than the ones in, say, Baldur's Gate 2, but I find myself preferring the latter sheerly because of how difficult it was to actually do. Anyone else whose tried to court Viconia probably knows what I'm talking about. You could say all the right things, but they'd be all the wrong things for that character, whereas I feel romances in later titles are a little more like "Push the romance button to win."

Not to devalue the writing or the characters or anything like that. Some of them I've found very well written, others less so, but that's wholly opinion regardless. Morrigan had a bit of challenge about her, though persistence and copious amounts of gifts did the trick.

Anyway, that's all a little bit off-topic I suppose. Personally, I swing both ways. Given this is the internet, that might be akin to holding a sign that reads "I'm straight as a board" to some people, but anyone to think that would just be wrong. In my opinion, the love interests available are fine. I won't personally be pursuing any of them, I think, but there are plenty. I don't see why more gay love interests ought to be added, but then, I don't see why any romances should be added or why romances can't consist of something more akin to light affection or something.

Romances are just secondary, plain and simple. Star Wars had romance in it, but it was never the focal point, and the story never took a backseat so we could see the cast get it on. Maybe that will change in JJ Abrams' Star Wars, though. Anyway, it's a story-driven RPG, not a romance novel or dating sim (as much as I'll joke that Bioware makes dating sims). Having any romance is more than most games, and having even one well written romance is more than virtually any other game out there. Does this seriously need more?

This was an interesting read.

To the starter of the thread. Sera is lesbian she is only interested in women. Although she is off her rocker and crazy as a loon. Me and my girlfriend found this out when I tried to romance her as a male character. She was like no no no and all that crazy talk. It was hilariously funny.

Same thing happened to my girlfriend when she tried to romance Dorian who is only interested in men. It was hilariously funny because she thought he was so hot and comes to find out he was interested in guys. We had a good laugh over that.

However I support this thread for those who want to romance more of the same gender. Go you people go!

I agree and can relate to this 100%.  I had the same experience.

It seems to me the scenarios encountered in game are a lot like what one might encounter in real life.  I don't really see any controversy in it.

I find it rather funny that some in this thread who advocate for acceptance and understanding for LGBT people have in the next breath posted about how they hate right wing conservatives.  Google the meaning of the word "hypocrisy".   While you do that, I'll google "Run on sentence".

Also i want jiggle physics... for the men

LOL with the appropriate proportion slider in the character creator.  That plus jiggle physics = male toons running around giving themselves black eyes.

edit- sorry for rezzing an old post, but this just struck me as funny

Yeah,  I was going around the forums here and found someone posting stuff talking about how straight people need to be "cured".   Bioware knows how to attract those special folks don't they?  This all started because people get really (and I mean REALLY) twisted and bent out of shape over their sexual interests.  This place has become a hub for the perverted.  Best to completely ignore topics like this unless you're like me and love to troll.
