maybe the people who would normally watchdog brutal acts of gendered violence in popular media gave up on that show a long time ago.

I would be tempted to say it's a a misguided martial thing but that seems like a reach

Maybe because it's visually more noticeable? Typical athletes don't generally appear how people perceive strong to look. The media pretty much portrays upper body muscle mass as a 'perfect' male body type and so people pursue with the goal to be more attractive rather than to become fitter.

Personally I find fitness of the back, quads, glutes, calves, hamstrings and heart muscles take you further (pun intended.)

although i'm not sure what else they could've done?  Since he's a first baseman, they could've had him doing the splits, like hes trying to keep one foot on the plate, maybe.. its always cool when tehy do that.  Showcasing more athleticism than a swing

cutting Garlan and folding his "comfort Sansa" role into Margaery was probably fine, as this benefited Margaery's characterization and he does not really do anything else other than kinda hang around being a cool dude

 

But the Willas betrothal was pretty important to Sansa's character-arc in a way that the Loras betrothal from the teevee show isn't, and that substitution did not add anything to Loras's characterization

 

Sansa/Willas is also the only common Sansa ship that is fairly tolerable

so since he does not exist in teevee, a majority of this franchose's audience only has creepy Sansa ships (Sansa/The Hound, Sansa/Littlefinger, Sansa/Tyrion, all bad)
