I like Bounty Hunter. It's got some of the most consistenty pulpy-fun questing and they do a good job of adjusting the morality system so that it makes sense for the character's perspective. You get cool companions .
The fandalorianism is ~there but it's not like it feels like it was written by karen traviss or something
ultimately I think the freelance mercenary lifestyle in general is lionized more than the Mandalorians' particular take on it.

are there gay romances? I thought they were gonna patch them in?

Posté 21 juillet 2014 - 07:26
there are some minor ones in the Expansion.
only one per faction, though.
ie you can only be gay if you are Empire and can only be lesbian if you are Republic
it is weird

i wouldn't even say there are gay romances per se, it's just a bunch of flirts/fade to black dialogues here and there
eso has a lot of gay npc couples and quest givers and just overall it's ridiculously good in that regard

what about the smuggler
#288
Posté 21 juillet 2014 - 09:14
smuggler is probably one of the more gender-dependent classes, enjoyment-wise, because your gender directly impacts how intolerable Corso is, and you're stuck with Corso as your only companion for quite a while.
Similar to Bounty Hunter, it has fun, pulpy story content.

consular?

I have a soft spot for Consular but a lot of people hate it for being boring.
The main problem, I think, is that it's supposed to center around ~jedi philosophy~ and the quest for wisdom and enlightenment and whatnot - which would bore many gamers even if well-executed - and then does not do a particularly good job of that (mmo videogame writers likely do not have a good background for engaging these topics).
I just think of it as a superior version of the Knight's hero's journey fantasy novel shtick.

Has anyone played Elder Scrolls Online? How is that?

But the lag is often atrocious and makes the whole thing unplayable, the customer support is **** and there are still a lot of issues going around. Like bit infestation in certain areas. And I don't think the price is reasonable. So maybe just wait till it goes f2p or gets some serious discount somewhere if you want to try it

female bodytypes 3 and 4 are cool (even though it's deeply weird and probably sexist that 3 is analogized to the conspicuously fat bodytype that males get) but you don't see them often

Another problem with Swtor as a whole, but especially with certain classes (consular) is that it does not know how to manage its own drama.
Obviously it does not manage the same kind of quiet, restrained gravitas that really made the original trilogy shine (and that the kotor games did a ~decent~ job of), but also just in terms of comparing it to most popular media, it often seems to have a questionable grasp of where the big moments are or aren't, or how to handle them. There's often little sense of when your character is processing stuff that has happened, or when you should be given the option to have a more extreme reaction to something.
partially this is the nature of mmos, partially it's technical limitations, partially it's writing.
There's one particular moment early in Consular storyline
you're scouring the Coruscant undercity for these ancient Jedi holocrons that were lost when the city-planet was sacked by the Sith, because you need their wisdom in dealing with a mysterious force-plague that has broken out.
At one point during this, you're able to converse with a holocron construct of Nomi Sunrider, which should be a big, big "holy **** that's Nomi ****** Sunrider I'm talking to!" moment for your character.
But Nomi's hologram says a couple of lines of generic quest-advancing dialog, you reply with a couple of lines of generic quest-advancing dialog, and you go on your merry way.
Your character is supposed to be a voracious scholar of jedi lore
You just uncovered an ancient artefact that allowed you to commune with probably the most revered figure in the history of the Order
And the character has no opportunity to freak out/geek out about that at all?
Come on, game.
I mean yeah about 96% of people playing this probably have no idea who Nomi Sunrider is but what's the point of having her there, then? What's the point of having a huge, shared setting? And even then, I think most players would grasp "these are legendary ancient jedi and your character is powerfully affected by this experience"
there are a lot of missed roleplaying opportunities like that, which makes it an inferior RPG. Lot of moments or plot points that sound really cool on paper but fall flat.
Some class storylines are better about things like that (bounty hunter, again, shines in that regard), but some are really bad.
