One can actually be pretty sure, yes. There's "good" in everyone with a 0.8 failure margin assuming that Ferelden's population of psychopaths is roughly proportional to modern Canada's. What you're actually looking for while saying that is something in the other person you think you can bring around to your own point of view on one issue or another, and Loghain always struck me as someone who could be reasoned with once you got around his suspicion. And I'd take a strong and experienced general over an overgrown teenaged stableboy to have at my back during some of the most crucial battles in history any day.

Loghain always struck me as a murdering thug until he is bested in the duel. Very few reasons to let him live, IMO.

I have occasionally allowed Loghain to live, but only long enough to die vs Archie. Still have not seen Loghain in any later games.

To my surprise, he became a fairly decent Warden in DAI. I could see him replacing Duncan and Clarel as the Warden-Commander in Ferelden.

I'm one of those people who absolutely hated him in my first playthroughs, but decided to give him a chance just to see the alternate ending. He managed to peak my interest as a charater a bit and as a result, it led me to read Stolen Throne.

To my further suprise, the book gave me a totally different perspective on Loghain and I could finally understand why he chose to prioritize expelling the Orlesian armies from the Northern border rather than deal with the darkspawn first.

I don't defend his priorities, because as a Warden, we understand why the darkspawn HAVE to be a priority, no matter what. But let me just say my opinion on him changed A LOT after seeing him fight for the Wardens in Inquisition. If only things had been different in Origins; if only the Order wasn't so goddamn secretive. Then Loghain wouldn't have been so suspicious and would surely have done everything in his power to help the Wardens back then.

Don't get me wrong, as I often recommend saving Loghain at least once to see more into the man. However, I do not allow him to go into the sequels; others appear more deserving then him at that point.

I honestly don't believe that telling Loghain that Wardens are slowly transforming into ghouls and this puts them in mental communication with the archdemon would cause him to trust the Wardens more.

Telling him how the Archdemon reincarnates and why the Wardens are needed to disrupt it might. Or it might make him less inclined to trust them, but either way it's critical information for the plans the Wardens agreed to let him create.

He downs his own Joining potion like a trooper and is pretty comfortable with the facts of Grey Warden existence when he does learn of them, so I doubt it would have made him hysterical before Ostagar. Loghain doesn't give a crap about dark magic or yucky hazings, all he cares about is being able to trust the hands he puts the fate of his country into, and full disclosure is nearly always the only way to earn someone's trust after you've disappointed them once. Duncan should have started that process with him when Maric disappeared instead of ignoring him and stringing Cailan along in the insane hope that when the Blight came there wouldn't be any need for sound strategy.

Usually i decide what my playthroughs are gonna be using spoilers, wiki and forums. And then after that i try to rationalize to myself why do certain things from a RP point of view.

Me sparing Loghain at first was because that is the only way to save both the Warden and Alistair without a DR. However later, unexpectedly, i came around for real and decided there are not good enough reasons to really hate him, hence kill him. Especially if your character is a Human Noble(and mine was), because of obvious reasons.
