Hope that was a joke!

I think the point is that it's a role playing game and whatever you do is what you do. You play it how you like. If you are running a guy who hates the wardens, alistair annoys you and you think loghain had a point because you found Cailan to be a fool, then that is how you see the world and perhaps that character views him differently. People rationalize everything. For roleplaying even more. So it comes down to that. Would that character see it as wrong. And elistist racist human character would think using the elves is no problem. A warrior who finds wardens to be jerks for lying to him/her would side with loghain to some degree feeling betrayed for the taint he/she is forced to take. Within that context there is no right or wrong. It's just a game. But yes, there are clearly things that are wrong from a moral perspective. Slavery is one of them. But again, for RP purposes, this could work for you. Or it could turn you angrier like if you are an elf.

What is irrational is the prevailing idea that any player is obligated to look for reasons to spare Loghain, or think about his characterization or "why he is the way he is". No player has any obligation beyond playing their game in a way that makes them happy.

Which goes both ways, as I am sure you are aware. Just as you prefer to have 'stair by the Warden's side all the way through the end, there are those that actually prefer Mac Tir in his stead, late into the game as that may come to pass.

Nice to see the conversation dragged to such a low, by the way, good job. It can only improve from there, at least...

Seriously...gross...People actually want to romance a man who looks a mule kicked zombie with a voice that says "I gargle with razor blades daily"?

Guess it takes all kinds.

A little bit yeah. I thought it'd be a spoof mod. Not a serious one.

THERE'S MORE THAN ONE? *cringes*

In his current state, I can no imagine kissing him or sleeping with him. It feels very dirty.

aww I ran out of likes :(

Also Velanna? You mean that smear on the ground? Even my CE wouldn't recruit that bag full of crazy. Zevran at least cracked a few jokes and provided some levity. She doesn't even do that much.

What she does for me is capture an element of Dalish that doesn't sugarcoat their anger. Even if you don't like her, it's something that needs to be included (which it was again in some DA2 Dalish characters). Just like Anders' anger needs to be included. Or conversely, Finn's happiness with the Circle needs to be included. I want all sides represented in game, and don't always want things to be so ****** heroic and diplomatic all the time. I'm just tired of all of that.

I don't hate any of the Awakening characters. All better than DAO imo.

I love Nate. Anders is cool but after what they did to him in DA2 I kind of can't really warm up to him anymore. Sigrund is interesting. I'm meh on the rest. Actually I don't care about the rest. I was just taking them to up the cannon fodder.

You can at least fix the face with the Dragon Age Redesigned mod. He still looks old but those raccoon eyes are gone.

That's fair enough. I couldn't justify recruiting her (and nor did I really want to.) But yeah things don't need to be happy all the time. I don't want bleak for the sake of being bleak even when it makes little sense either though. Moderation is nice. Can't enjoy the happy moments without sad moments and the sad moments become pointless without happy ones.

It's not even so much that he's ugly. It's that he is hostile and nasty and rude. Under what circumstance is that ever romance material? Alistair is sweet and I can go that route and deal with the whining about king stuff and duncan. Plenty of people in real life whine about something. But the ragers? The ones who are hostile and angry? Toxic. Not a chance I'd have them in my life let alone sleep with them. Alistair by comparison doesn't give you any of that feeling. Yeah, some whining but aside from that if you are decent to him (not making what are CLEARLY instigating comments) he's just a romantic softie. That's someone I wouldn't mind having around. When loghain is dealt with and the king stuff is dealt with, the whining will stop and all is well. Until then, it's the hot topic.

Yea, my OCD wouldn't let me stand that.  I had a Loghain mod that actually made him look pretty decent, but since you only see him outside of cutscenes a couple times if you kill him, it really freaked me out he looked one way during some scenes and another way in others.  It's one reason I can't do major alterations to NPC faces in my game.

Yeah, we agree then. I don't want to say I want things to be bleak for the sake of it either.

It is funny though that Velanna got brought up. She seems about as difficult as Loghain. And both of them have some sympathetic qualities if you make the first step. Loghain's dog story got me. lmao. While the bit with Velanna about her being sad that elves don't have any cool stories like the humans.. that got me. Both of them suffered a deeper kind of cultural humiliation. That kind of anger always runs deep.

right. so with such agenda in mind, why you were asking a question about reason of sparing/recruiting him?

doesn't make sense, because from your current position it really doesn't matter what people will answer.

You see on earlier pages of this thread i asked people about reasons why they would kill Loghain. And most of times, and you can see it very clear, that the only reason is - that these players are not ready to trade Alistair for Loghain. Because they like Alistair more. Which basically brings us to your position, such as player is playing his game in a way that makes them happy.

Seriously, it's not a reason enough for me to execute a man, even if he is just a character in a video game. Also i don't like being pushed around, and DAO do that on every corner really. But if you think of it a little bit. Duncan is not really a hero. Cailan and Alistair both braindead. And nobles are nobles.

p.s. just look a page 23 of current topic. so obvious really.

True there's a bug where you can't even get his friendly dialogue. He's supposedly more polite with it activated.

Fair enough XD doesn't much bother me (I modded Zev too and by god I hate DAO's premade cutscenes. They look so...bleh).

lol.. what do you mean?

Traitorous I understand. But Loghain recruits blood mages and seems hellbent on siding with Tevinter at the worst kind of costs. He doesn't seem very parochial to me.

I can't have a discussion with anyone who takes a video game that seriously. LOGHAIN IS NOT REAL! Pixels, data, bits and bytes. That's all he is. *backs away slowly and makes liberal use of the wonderful "ignore" feature*

There's an ignore feature?  Does it actually work so you don't see posts from someone who really annoys the bejeezus out of you?

I don't know if it was because of those few drama classes I took, but my mind changes with most of my characters. Roleplaying. Or method acting, I'll call it. Why does there have to be a set answer for every player? To me, every player holds possibly dozens of characters in their minds and hearts. We are not just one person.

Yep.

That's true but my PC doesn't have the time or the energy at the time of their recruitment to make the first step other PCs do. Which is great because both ways of playing are supported.

Yes and it's the most beautiful thing ever. You see that drop down arrow next to your screen name on the upper right? Click on it then go to ignore prefs. Copy&Paste the screenname of whoever you want to ignore then toggle all the hide options.

You've posted an awful lot in a thread about whether a character who isn't real should be spared or not to start pointing fingers at other people taking the game way too seriously.

That's not a wrong, "bad", or invalid reason. No more than the people whose reason for tossing Alistair is to take Loghain back to camp so they can moon over his voice and and sex him up with the Loggy romance mod.

The fact that people call him Loggy at all is the worst part in all of this. I guess that's [somewhat] better than Logie (unless "Loggy" is meant to be pronounced as logie, in which case that's even worse for an entirely different reason).

The fact that this thread has gone from a reasonable discussion of his actions to "Eww, Loghain's gross!" tells me pretty much all I need to know about the current crop of DA:O players. The ones who were willing to argue this with some kind of decency and respect to characterization left a long time ago.
