I think Loghain and Anora loved each other, but weren't really so close they were comfortable with each other.  I get the feeling he spent most of her childhood in Denerim, busy with Maric and Cailan.

Which is why my King Cousland had Alistair kill him.  He didn't want Loghain around to screw up his relationship with his queen.

IIRC didn't Anora grow up in Denerim alongside Cailan. I think Eamon says something about it when you talk to him at his Denerim estate. Perhaps it is simply a good old case of our kids never grow up - they remain six years old with pigtails and skinned knees. ;)

Loghain and Maric were inseparable, it is said more than once. Anora may have been raised at court with Cailan and the best tutors money could buy but this doesn't mean she was separated from her father. As the kings closest friend and confidant I doubt Loghain wasn't present to let his opinions be known at court. i.e.: letting the wardens back in for a start.

bloody auto check I swear

Being raised in proximity doesn't necessarily equal lots of time with.  I think Loghain loved his family but Maric and his duties to Ferelden kept him busy.

Cat's in the cradle and all that...

My canon Warden executed him, he didn't like him very much and certainly wasn't willing to alienate his best friend to recruit him.  He didn't want Alistair killing him, would sour his relationship with his future wife and Queen.

In the first chapter of The Calling Maric ponders Loghain's avoidance of being with his family, who are back at his home.

I have always killed Loghain at landmeet so I've never heard or seen his reaction at Ostagar RTO, the only time I kept him alive was for the accomplishments of full recruitment and sacrifice; then I reloaded and killed him about five times to get over it.

Five times to get over it? Man... I'm glad I didn't try debating with you on this.

Yeah, that was sort of intense.

I spare Loghain because, idealism about redemption aside, I don't think Anora deserves to be forced to watch her father be cut down right in front of her eyes.

I felt crappy about that too. Imagine then if the one who dealt the blow became King Alistair's mistress while he ruled beside her. Ick.

Loghain had no problem bringing his friend Howe, the Cousland families murderer, along to talk with Eamon.

Loghain would never be that insensitive. That's why he left behind that buttpipe who purged the Alienage.

Some hate Anders, some hate Fenris, I hate Anora and Loghain, sorry but thats the truth. Yeah these are fictional characters but I still hate them.

I guess that's how the writers know they did a good job.  Love them, hate them, however  you think of them, they are definitely unforgettable.

That's the highest compliment you could pay the writers.  :D

Indeed. Loghain is interesting. I can't say I hate him, per say, but I really don't like him either.

LOL I can definitely say I hate him, although there are several other characters I hate more.  And sparing him long enough to reach the end of the 1 game I spared him on was torture, but I managed it.  Went back and repeated the Landsmeet a couple times just for good measure.  Mostly for the 'winning at the Landsmeet' convo, and insulting his honor prior to kicking his ass in the duel.  Never did like killing him in front of his kid like that.

No need to apologize, but I kind of gathered you disliked the man.

This is about my exact outlook on him as well.

Did anyone else catch the comment (the Stolen Throne) by Flemmeth to Maric not to trust Loghain as he would betray him repeatedly and each time worse than the last? I would really love to see more books about pre-Blight Ferelden talking about Maric and Loghain and other events.

Seriously hope to see a book about Origins game and the back stories to a lot of events that were glossed over due to time or just didn't come across as clearly in game as it would in a book (more indepth)

I never thought twice about killing Loghain. He was power hungry and got what he deserved in the end. Had Alistair kill him.

@River

You don't remember the scene where Loghain is berating Eamon for his selfish ambition for the throne? Cauthrien, Loghain, Eamon, Alistair, Howe, and in my case, Elissa Cousland were all there.

Cauthrien had the nerve to call me a churl, as well. Fools, all of them.

But you did threatened to kill a high ranking noble in front of her how else could she respond.  Honestly I doubt I would have the will to hold myself back getting that close to Howe so name calling that the moment wouldn't help matters.

No, she calls you a churl if you try to ignore Howe and try to move on with the Landsmeet. She responds differently if you threaten Howe. She will call you a churl even if you are as un-confrontational as possible. Loghain echoes the amount of contempt as well, even if you try to reach over the aisle and offer to work together.

Try playing through that scene as a City Elf and then rereading my comment.
