Better Representation of Sex Workers

Statistically, I'm sure there's at least one. But there's already enough media that glamorizes sex work and paints it as desirable without any recognition of the dangers or the stigma that workers suffer in real life.
See, I disagree with this. Most shows I've seen do more what you desire: humanizing them and showing the dangers of their profession.

But see, it's not a video game so it matters not.

What ever happened to Belle in 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl?' I never got to the later seasons.

It's strange that this pops up right as I start replaying the original Fable. There's a part with a bordello and if you can find the deed, you have the option to turn it into a shelter for down on their luck women and the prostitutes. It was a nice little touch to be able to do that. For the relatively small amount of screentime they got in an already short game, they humanized them and I have to say I enjoyed that.

I for one do not see the problem here that requires "better representation". Several Bioware characters while not technically prostitutes have certain experience in that field and were still interesting "human" characters. I don't seem to recall entering a brothel in Dragon Age and seeing all of the prostitutes burst into a cheerful song about how they best job ever and don't even want pay because it's that great a career.

Like, of course you didn't? Outside of, you know, one quest, where you could kill a mage prostitute and nobody even noticed, their only function is literally to stand around, waiting for the player to have sex with them. Singing about how they enjoy their work would actually endow them with some sort of characterisation. Not great, mind you, but it would be something.
All the criticisms that are levied at the "playersexual romances" could be laid at the feet of Dragon Age's brothels, except then they'd actually have some semblance of accuracy.

I actually wouldn't mind sex work in Dragon Age being depicted as more exploitative or more nuanced than attractive horny people wanting a quick romp while earning some coin.
I'm thinking of Witcher 2. It more accurately portrayed prostitution by separating it from the general tavern/bar area. The flotsam brothel was downstairs, the lighting was darker, there were fistfights (along with gambling and other games), people smoking, the women themselves had too much make up and had imperfect body shapes.
So I wouldn't be opposed if BioWare follows suit has better and more accurate representation of sex workers and the environment they work in. I mean, if BioWare is serious about equal representation and social justice, then they could do worse than take notes of what CDPR does.

And why would we as the game playing audience, desire for the game to derail its own plot, just to make room for a PSA about the sex industry?

You mean a apostate who was committing a crime and using the brothel to lure templars to their doom?

That doesn't mean more to the majority of players. Creating an interesting enemy is far more importance than seeing a new rendition of the classic "hooker with a heart of gold" tale. This is still a game where there are clear priorities to ensure commercial success. So yes, just about everything has priority over this.
The whole "ex-brothel girl joining up with the party" thing isn't exactly the most original idea either.
How did I miss this?
Let me make one thing clear: I don't give a single **** what the "majority" has to say about this, except that they're so incredibly gross about it. The purpose of this forum, as outlined in its description, is to "get your thoughts directly to the Bioware Community team". That's what I was doing when i made this thread.
And lol. If you can tell me a single "original idea" of Bioware's, I will give you a butterscotch candy.

By that logic, why have any sidequests at all?

That's pretty irrelevant to the fact that none of Idunna's coworkers ever makes mention of finding her with her throat slit?
None of the other prostitutes at the Blooming Rose know that she was a blood mage. It sure as hell looks like Hawke murdered her for literally no reason.

Why are my threads never this popular?
Just become obsessed with debating about a particular thing. And act like you know everything.
Oh and playing the victim, always helps.
Also saying long old overused jokes that stopped being funny a decade ago, thus being your only way of "getting back" at others, does wonders.

Why does the game need a brothel anyway? Denerim has like 3 buildings, but one of them is of course a brothel. A bit ridiculous if you ask me.
Sure, it might be fun once to roleplay a guy who spends all of his salary in prostitutes, but I could say the same about gambling, which I believe is far more common and not present in any DA game. Or being a drug addict for example. It's always the brothel, it got old years ago.

Banned by the Chantry! The Order Dicktates returns by fan demand.
Templar: There you are mage, I need my...sword enchanted.
Mage: But Ser Cullen, your Sword of Mercy...i-it's so big. It would take me all night!
Templar: Plenty of time, my dear. Plenty of time.

Seeing as all of DA2 had little to none reactivity, this is a whole game issue.

I would not complain at all if the brothel was completely absent.
