By that logic, why have any sidequests at all?
You're not framing it as a sidequest. Giving a sex worker companion combined with making it more pushed forward in the plot meansgiving it a hhigher status then really it deserves.

I would not complain at all if the brothel was completely absent.

Exactly what status does the issue "deserve"?
You realise that the importance of plots is completely subjective and arbitrary, right? The world and the characters are subservient to the whims of the devleopers, not the other way around. Issues become "important" because the writers want them to be.
So I'm asking them to consider this one, since they keep putting prostitutes in their games anyway. What's your problem?
I would not complain at all if the brothel was completely absent.
I would. I like seeing those lovely bouncing boobies.
*inb4 you start debating about how boobies should be taken out of games too*
That wouldn't happen anyways. Everyone likes boobies.
And if you don't like boobies then that means you're a--- ha oh wait.
Hey-ooooooo.

I'm ambivalent to boobies. Not that Bioware has ever actually shown that many.
But if they really wanted to, I'm sure the writers could contrive countless reasons for topless women to flock around your character, whether there was a brothel in the game or not.
This thread's going swimmingly I see.

Okaaaaaaaaay. Why?

Like, of course you didn't? Outside of, you know, one quest, where you could kill a mage prostitute and nobody even noticed, their only function is literally to stand around, waiting for the player to have sex with them. Singing about how they enjoy their work would actually endow them with some sort of characterisation. Not great, mind you, but it would be something.
All the criticisms that are levied at the "playersexual romances" could be laid at the feet of Dragon Age's brothels, except then they'd actually have some semblance of accuracy.
Except that is what brothels do. Provide a service that you pay for without any major complications. You're complaining that most of the NPC prostitutes are just prostitutes and don't do much else. You might as well complain about all of the merchant who just wants to sell you stuff and not talk to you all day. Or all of the guards who is just standing there guarding and don't want to tell you their life story. Or the NPCs who just stand around places and don't do anything. It's a game, Bioware can't make every single NPC some sort of important character.

You say that like it is a bad thing. It isn't.

You are a terrible human being. Kick yourself.

Isn't your enormous posting history committed to whining arguing about this exact thing?

Goodness. Gracious.
He's not complaining about merchants and guards because he (sorry I'm assuming OP is a he) doesn't have close friends in the merchant or guard business.
Sometimes a person's life experiences can influence what they find important or not in a game.
Its unimportant, imo, since I doubt many folks actually think sex workers have an easy life like you claim they do, or shame them when they get out of the business. This is the 2000's, were a little more informed and a lot less sensitized to that sort of thing then we used to be. So the whole fingers wagging at the player to make them feel bad about going to a brothel and buying a service, just to hear anentire sob story tthrough the whole thing, would be condescending at best. I can see many ways a brothel mission could be incorporated, perhaps covering up or exposing a lords dirty little secrets, or trying to stop someone from killing brothel girls because the city guard doesn't care. But I dont see why this issue should warrant a Isabella party member knock off, or more focus just to tell the player its hard out here as a worker.
You've completely misunderstood the entire point of this thread. At no point did I ask for any of the things you're describing. I asked for a prostitute character who is given the same care and attention as party members and major NPCs. And there's no reason why that shouldn't happen. Not every major character needs to be a mighty warrior, or some kind of noble.
As for modern society being "informed" about the sex industry and "less sensitized", I can point you to like, three articles right now that demonstrate the opposite, and these are just ones that I happen to have sitting on my bookmark bar.

Two of those are anecdotal, from people who have worked in the sex industry. The third is academic.
I'd tell you to enjoy, but who am I kidding? You won't read them.

Well, I do actually have friends that run stores, and I'm not opposed to having more developed merchant characters.
As for guards, apparently everybody forgot that Aveline exists. >_>

Who's Aveline?
*sigh* I respect the idea of this creating more awareness of exploitation of people, since everyday people are exploited not just the sex industry but in all industries but I digress. This has become like children bickering at each other expecting the other to back down, it's not going to happen. Mockingword you've made your argument and I'm very sure Allan read it, but it's futile what you're doing here trying to convince others you're rehashing the same argument, it's slowly turning to simple bleating. Try putting that energy to something else something less futile.

Less futile than posting on the Bioware forum? Should I dig a tunnel to China, or build a rocket out of cardboard?

Creating more awareness elsewhere perhaps?
Also making a rocket out of cardboard is not impossible, creating one that can actually work on the other hand...
Well Mockingword you have Started a thread about prostitute's and how you feel they should be shown some respect you have stated you have a freind that is as you call it a sex worker why do you feel so strongly about this i find it odd you would try and bring real world problems in to dark fantasy game like dragon age unless you have played a diffrent game then i dragon age is vary dark elfs and the lowborn humans as treated as scum caste less dwarfs are pimped out to high born lords as baby factorys no i do not belive any one will show any one any respect in the dragon age world

They can be shown respect by the narrative without necessarily being respected by the setting or other characters.
But I dunno what game you've been playing. In the Dragon Age games I played, even their fantasy racism didn't bar an elf or dwarf character from accessing the highest echelons of the local human society.

I don't think using the protagonist as a basis for what elves and dwarves can or cannot do is an accurate observation.

So he's double standard then, good for confirming.
I agree that the ubiquitous brothels being used for cheap titillation and laughs isn't good
