I don't think using the protagonist as a basis for what elves and dwarves can or cannot do is an accurate observation.

Well, the only other interpretation is that Bioware's writing is inconsistent.

No, it's just that being a Warden, especially during a Blight, supersedes all racist views. Same reason nobody really hassles you for being a Mage outside the Circle. You're their salvation from utter destruction.

The Inquisitor will follow the same formula. People will for the most part put their racism aside to work with the person trying to save them.

Now if Hawke's story was with dwarves or especially elves, it would never work out.

Wardens aren't respected in Ferelden, and Loghain has been telling everyone that there is no Blight. It seems like it should be more of a hindrance, honestly.

But I don't see what your point is? If the only problem is "because Warden", well, they already conscript murderers and thieves. They wouldn't turn away a prostitute who showed aptitude in combat.

Or they can come up with some other sort of narrative contrivance, because that is what stories are.

They are respected however by the Dwarves, the Dalish, and the Chantry/Circle of Magi. Even most of Ferelden still respects them. Besides which, the Ferelden part is trying to earn Ferelden's support by stopping Loghain.

My point is that when people look at a Warden, regardless of race most people will see a Warden and not that race. That plus the rights Wardens are granted does not make an Elf of Dwarf Warden an accurate representation of how society treats Elves and Dwarves in general, which contradicts your "In the Dragon Age games I played, even their fantasy racism didn't bar an elf or dwarf character from accessing the highest echelons of the local human society." argument.

It contradicts nothing. Everything is under the control of the writers. They pumped the setting full of imaginary bigotry, and they came up with the circumstances that allow certain characters to overcome it.

They can do it again. Like, it wouldn't even be hard.

What does that have to do with your original point? You said that prostitutes should be shown more respect in the game like elfs and dwarves are by racist humans. I point out that only happens when the elf or drawf is a Warden.

So sure, a prostitute who becomes a Warden will be treated with respect if that's what you were driving at.

No, you took the discussion on that tangent. Or somebody else did. I honestly cannot keep track.

I want the issue to be treated with respect by the narrative. Which is not the same thing.

That would be you who took it on this tangent then since you compared the treatment of prostitutes to the racism directed towards dwarves and elves, even insinuated the elfs and dwarves have it easier by saying they can access the upper echelons of human society.

But I feel this conversation will go nowhere, so I'm pulling out.

Yeah, in response to some other person who also does not understand what I'm asking for.

I was never asking that prostitutes be respected as "equals" to nobles or whatever bullcrap you think I want. All I asked is for the writers to respect and acknowledge the humanity of the sex worker characters that they create. Because sex workers already get enough disrespect and dehumanisation in real life without media, especially fantasy media, compounding it by treating them like sex objects or punchlines.

And they can do the same thing for merchants or guards or what-the-****-ever. I won't object to it, it's just whatever. Because shopkeepers and guards do not suffer from institutionalised discrimination on the basis of their work. If anything, the real-world equivalent of "city guard" (ie, the police), is a position of respect.
