The Keep, Saving Importing, Modding and Sexuality (my fears)

Ok then a few points I want to make on the OP's post:

I'm pretty sure Aveline slept with Donnic before they were married.

Fenris is not promiscuous. Period. Neither is Anders, really, although he was a bit flirty.

Bioware do need to add more homosexual NPC's, since there really aren't that many.

Finally, yes the save import will not register that your male Warden was in a relationship with Alistair, and that's good, because it shouldn't. I view "Make Alistair bisexual" mods just as negatively as the "make Isablea white" mods. It doesn't matter if you want Isabela to be white or Alistair to be bisexual, that's just not who they are. It's fine to headcanon or mod whatever you want in your own game, but never expect Bioware to acknowledge that head-canoning or modding, because they won't, and shouldn't.

Now for the sexuality thing. Bioware has depicted every non-straight character so far as being promiscuous, yes Morrigan says that she has had many men however She is perhaps the straight romance (that I can think of) in the series who has had casual sex. As a gay man myself playing these games it comes across as Bioware thinking that all non-straight people just have sex, sex, sex and more sex. I'm not a stereotype and my sexuality isn't something to be fetishised.

Just a sidenote, but there's also characters like Wade and Herren in DA:O and Awakening. Neither of them is made to be some sort of a sex maniac.

What's the definition of "promiscuous" we're using here?

You can write homosexuality, but not the Q-word which is odd to me.

I think this might be a cultural thing. I love language and I have noticed how different 'swear' words have different levels of offensiveness. Particularly visible to me is British v American English. And in British English 'the Q word' is generally pretty derogatory towards the LGBT community. It always makes me miss a step when LGBT Americans self-identify with it.

The game cannot be expected to support modding that changes the romances like that.

It's an unreasonable request. Romancing Alistair as a male Warden was never meant to be possible in the base game - why would they allow you to carry that over in the Keep? As soon as you modify the game you lose the right to ask that your choices be accommodated, and I think that's fair.

It's also possible that having those plot flags set simultaneously would break content in Inquisition, or cause you to lose out on content.

(And given that Inquisition and Origins don't even use the same engine, I imagine that literally every piece of armour, clothing and items from Origins won't make it into Inquisition. How could it?)

It always makes me curious that make "character" gay mods are so positively received. Like sure, you wanna romance a character a specific way, go for it. But if there was a make "character" straight mod it'd be incredibly offensive and derogatory.

Also, bioware has no reason to accommodate your modding, and you have even less reason to complain about their non-hetero characters. Sure there's room for improvement, but they are leaps an bounds ahead of everyone else.

You really can't expect Bioware to accommodate something so far off the canon material. "Mod" is the key word here. This is why I avoid such mods such as "Equal Love". When it comes to mods what I really am afraid of is how my Hawke and the Warden would appear in game should they happen to make some form of appearance.

I think people primarily like those gay mods because it allows them to play as their desired gender AND romance who they want to romance. I don't think it's anything to do with being anti-straight or something.

I wasn't intending to say I thought it was, like I said, you want to romance a certain character, more power to you. It's just that there's no way a mod of the opposite affect could exist without the gnashing of teeth and screams of SJW's. Some of them the same people who are proponents of mods like "equal love"

While I wish Alistair and Morrigan had been available to same-sex romances (I truly do), I don't think we can ask that BioWare recognize our modded games. (I had a M!Warden x Alistair playthrough, too, so I'm on your side, OP.)

Regarding Fenris: I think it's terribly wrong to refer to him as promiscuous; he admits to Hawke once that he's never gotten close to anyone since escaping from Danarius.

Zevran's promiscuity is problematic, as the writing seems to imply that his being a Crow and being encouraged to have sex with both men and women "turned" him bi... ick.

I kind of hope the Keep gives us a chance to make Alistair or Morrigan gay/lesbian, but I doubt it will.

Agree that we should see more gay/lesbian couples in the world around us as we play.

I'm sure there are mods that let players romance Traynor or Steve in ME; personally I don't see a problem with this.

Hmm yeah maybe you're right the opposite mod wouldn't be received well but... I think that'd be more due to the fact that there are so few purely "gay" characters out there anyway, that people who ARE gay might take personal offense... I could see myself using the reverse mod though, and for my own fun reasons and not homophobic ones.

I suppose we won't know precisely what the reaction would be until it actually happens, though.

Back on the old forums, I remember a mod that made one of the gay characters (I think it was Traynor?) accessible to Male Shepard which caused a bit of concern.  So it's already happened; wasn't as bad as efd thought it was.  That side was mostly muffled out by moderates.

Eh I have zero issue with a bi Traynor or Steve mod. I cringed at the white Isabela mod but well it wasn't in my game (the mod description is what cheesed me off in that scenario).

But honestly OP you're asking them to support content they didn't originally put in the game. That's hardly fair.

That might have something to do with society's attempts to "cure" homosexuality.

That said I personally have nothing against said romance mods what someone does with their game is their business.

I do however think expecting the devs to acknowledge mods in The Keep/save import is a tad unreasonable.

So the mod that let me play as an Elf Mage who is one of the Dwarf Princes isn't going to be acknowledged?  Heresy!

Heh, a playthrough where I wasn't a dwarf prince was a rarity. And I'm glad to see that people (in regards to previous topic) took that sort of change relatively calmly. Maybe there's hope for us internet folk yet.

I wish I could find it; I just don't know where it would be shuffled (if it survived).  I might have to find my way back to the old forum.

Yes to the bottom, and in regards to "curing" anything I don't really care. I can see why being a minority(lgbt) in a majority would be distressing(since people are intolerant), but it doesn't make anyone right. I view the "make Isabella white" mod (which I never used) on the same level as any other mod. You didn't like something in the game and change it. I see it as no more offensive than a sex or sexual orientation change mod. Or a mod that puts buckets everywhere in skyrim. (Might have some knowledge of that last one)

The difference being, of course, that straight people are already over-represented in videogames and the media generally, while the LGBT audience is under-served.

If you have a whole bowl full of M&Ms, and someone else only has three, then taking a handful of your M&Ms and giving them to the other person would only be making the situation more balanced.

Taking those three M&Ms from the other person and giving them to you, however, would make the situation more inequitable, and that person would be right to complain. You already have far more M&Ms than you need.

Even better were the chats with Leliana.  "How is it like to be an elf?  Listen, check your privilege, I'm obvs Dwarf - well I was until I was thrown to the darkspawn.  Still. :/"

It was certainly interesting; I had thought that a single flag would have determined the conversation (like, a Dwarf Noble flag, Human Noble flag, etc) but it looks like they had a separate one for race, origin and class which had different priorities depending on the area.
