Queer is off the forum filer now.

Awesome. Thank you to whomever did it. :)

It's used as an insult everywhere but like a lot of other words, people attempt to use it for a positive meaning as well.

There were queer studies classes at my college and have been part of queer advocacy groups. I'd say that the majority of time I hear the term used, it's not as an insult. Aller au message complet »

I appreciate that BioWare wants create an inclusive forum environment, but turning every synonym for non-straight sexuality into an obscenity is not the best way to achieve this.

Yes, people use it as an insult. People use 'gay' as an insult as well.

Queer is a widely used umbrella term for non-straight and non-cigendered people and communities. Queer theory is an academic discipline and many LGBT groups call themselves queer.

I'd appreciate you considering the matter.

I agree and second this. I often use queer to describe myself.

I also question some other words that are randomly filtered

Considering the definition Google gives, it's strange that you guys would claim that one. Either way, they should abandon the censor altogether, I reckon. We all had to go through an age gate to get here, and we've all purchased their filthy, filthy games.

Oh, with the six stars I figured it started with an "f". I was confused.

mmm. a question - why you are using this word? is there something specific behind, some meaning or something?

I use the term because it's the best one available when I want to refer to people who are non-heterosexual or cigendered. Also because I seem myself as part of a larger ****** community.

Possibly because LGBTQQIAAPP looks horrible.

Wait, where are all those extra Q's, A's, and P's coming from?

I would prefer that it wasn't censored, but I would prefer that most words weren't censored.

I agree with the OP, it's rather worrying that this word is censored.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, q*eer, questioning, intersex, asexual, allies, polyamorous, and pansexual.

May have to add a D in there soon.

There really isn't a reason that this word should be censored, especially in a forum where the posters are so focused on romance content.

Possibly because LGBTQQIAAPP looks horrible.

Are you sure, that shortening it to 'LGBT' for common internet speech looks offensive or something?...

I mean, a lot of words are often shortened, even in offline world, and  it's internet we're talking about.

Everyone including 'QQIAAPP' part will understand what you meant. Not to mention that it's shorter.

I have always thought that this word is an insult for gays so have never used it.
I am from the UK so have no idea what the meaning is in other countries.

Originally queer meant strange or odd. Used in the saying "there's nowt as queer as folk."

The ever changing landscape of language. Isn't it wonderful.

Its original meaning is still fairly commonly used anyway, so even less reason to censor it.
