Take it from me- for that book to be even remotely accurate, it would need a complete rewrite from the ground up. It was a lost cause from the very beginning.
Thats what happens when you go from the lead writer/co-lead writer writing every book in the series to then switching to /dietzstylewriting for the conclusion.
A 15/18 year old who gets over autism getting killed with a sharpened toothbrush by a cereal thief who pisses in vases.
You can't save that.

It's largely been forgotten by both fans and BioWare. I'd say that's probably for the best.
Mass Effect 3 was the bigger error for anyone who cared so yeah, as soon as people got to the ending of the game, the book's errors were forgotten as there was a bigger problem to be had.

No. Shame since the Mass Effect books had been pretty good up until then. I wonder if the books will continue like the Dragon Age books are?

Someone on these forums sent a message to the publisher of Deception only to discover that there were no plans to do a reprint of the book (to correct the errors). After what happened they probably considered it a financial disaster they would make 0 profit on, so they just abandonned it.

Good riddance. The only good thing to come out of that thing was the rage comic that made fun of it.

Deception doesn't exist anymore and it's a good thing for us.
The need to make another book with Gilian Grayson to fix this but this time not by Dietz.

Nope. But I can say that even if the lore changes were fixed, it wouldn't change the overall story - which was kinda depressing.

I think Deception's official status at this point is non-canon.
Also the blame for all the lore errors in that book ultimately lies with Bioware rather than Dietz. There is nothing wrong with bringing in an outside author to do work on your series, but if you go that route, you need to exercise quality control. Someone should be assigned to the project to make sure that the author is brought up to speed and that the characters and the lore stay consistent. So either Bioware dropped the ball in not assigning anyone that task, or the person(s) assigned completely failed at their assigned task.

It would have been pointless imo. Forget the inaccuracies, the book was simply too badly written to be worth trying to salvage. Find a better writer next time. Giving one of the actual game writers a chance to write a novel seems to have worked better. Gaiders first one was a bit clunky but the plot was ok and improved as writer a lot for the next couple. Haven't read Masked Empire yet but Weekes seems like a good fit. And Drews first few ME novels were pretty good. Getting a good writer to write in a set world based on a video game is a tough sell and historically tends to be a disaster.

It isn't necessary to have all books written by the actual creators of the series. Outside authors are just as capable of turning out good stories (or bad ones) as the creators themselves. If an outside author is going to be brought in however, someone who knows the lore inside and out needs to be assigned to the project both to bring that outside author up to speed on the world or universe they are writing in, and to keep characters or previously established events or plots consistent.

It may not be necessary, but getting a good writer to shackle themself with all the constraints of writing for a video game franchise and then not even own what they are writing, is a tough sell. It's not about not knowing the lore, its about being a decent writer.

In this case, I think I will speak for the majority. The book's load of ridiculous inaccuracies had everyone pissed, but then the last game came out, pissed off people even more so, and focus changed. We got an Extended Cut, not a book revision. Can't deny that.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood you.
I thought you meant that anyone who wasn't pissed off by ME3, obviously doesn't care about it. Which would be quite arrogant and dismissive towards those who enjoyed it and care about it.

I never read Mass Effect: Deception. In fact, I never read anything outside of the Mass Effect games.
I've read a few Dark Horse comic, though, I don't think they are anything really to write home about. But is Mass Effect: Deception really that bad?

Yes, it really is. BUT, the first three books are great and definitely recommended.
