That's assuming that bit is true

Indeed. And I don't think it is.

The question was "What is their to like about such a failure?"

And the answer is he created life. He also created positive feelings such as happiness, love, etc. Everything positive people experience is just as much his work as the negative, so there is a lot to like about him.

Creating life is not impressive. Any idiot without a condom can do that.

Maybe he created "happiness and love", but that's rather irrelevant when he apparently conspires to make people as miserable as he possibly can.

Not really. Keeping someone alive as you transmogrify them into your dead love is not the same as creating it.

The point is that 'creating life' in and of itself does not a good maker make.

Happiness and all that is fantastic. I wonder how happy people are when the darkspawn burn down their homes and drag their women off to become broodmothers....

I daresay that a drink and a tavern wench are not worth such a price.

This is going to turn into a "why do real life religions suck" thread isn't it? <_<

It already has, simply replace "Maker" with "Yahweh".

Granted, the title does kind of give away where this was going from the get go.

It certainly seems that way. Only one thing to do.

I'm guessing it is due to the fedora wearing mage types. The Maker doesn't need an excuse to backhand a bunch of uppity Tevinter mages who just thought they'd break into his home, steal his stuff and trash the place.

The maker sent his wife to die for our sins. I think that shows how much he loves us. People shouldn't be too hard on him. I can't imagine any man who would want to send their wife away and have the whole place to himself.

Ummm, it's the reverse actually. She died, and now she's at his side...

What's wrong with fedoras?

Do you hate showing the ladies that you're a classy gentleman or something?

Honestly: The Maker Cannot Intervene With Creation, Unless It Intervenes With Him

Thedas was created to be independent from the Maker.

Its current state is the caused by the people who live there's actions. (He does not poof things ok)

When they entered the city, trying to destroy their creator (because he created them, and lets them do what they want), they got what we deserved.

Do you think he was going to let them do what they were going to do?

The guy created the veil, protecting them from fiends. Then as a parent, he lets his child grow up independently, and learn on their own, creating on their own. This is not neglection, just as our own parents send us to school, or kicks us out of the house when we are old, animals do this even earlier. But even though he created the veil, to shield them, they still the chose to listen to the fiends.

After listening to deceitful fiends, they turned to try and usurp what was not theirs, a place which they knew belonged to a Creator, and of which they were the creations of. They had not right.

When a child threatens the parent for doing their job, being a parent, and letting them embrace independence. The child is the one who has gone mad. The people of Thedas were like teenagers when they did this. And the maker punished them, a punishment of true worth. They would destroy the ones who fooled them in the process, cleansing, themselves of evil teachings, like blood magic, and learning to unite, and grow up. I would say the grey wardens are more connected to the maker and his purpose than the Chantry (since he cannot interfere with creation)

Make up your damn mind. Is the Maker unable to interfere, or is he able to inflict punishment? It can't be both.

If he 'doesn't' or 'can't' interfere, then how did he speak to Andraste, and convince her to fight against the Tevinter Imperium?

And you still haven't explained why an entire continent of people needed to be punished for the crimes of a few, or why that punishment needs to persist, thousands of years later, when everyone involved is dead.

If one child threatens a parent, and the parent responds by beating all of their children, then that parent belongs in prison.

I'm cool with the Maker. He's the Maker, what choice do I have? It's not like you can reject the creator if you believe he exists and somehow be right. His world, his rules.

Lol.

A few people, who are now most likely long dead (barring Corypheus), invaded the Maker's 'golden city'.

In response, he sent down an army of darkness to spread taint and decay across the entire known world for thousands of years.

Yeah, he sounds totally reasonable.

Er, he cast down the people who invaded his city. There's no indication that he knew they would then spread their taint to the archdemons and create the Blight.

So he's an idiot?

According to OP's premise, I'm supposed to accept that the Maker is responsible for the creation of all things.

And he didn't know what the taint would do? Really?

The Maker, the Magisters, the Old Gods, and the Blight

A parent lives with a 20 year old kid, and the kid is about to move out.

The parent is a police officer.

The parent warns the kid about bad influence.

The kid moves out into the big world on his own.

The parent is always busy at work, can't call.

The kid ignores his parent's advice, and starts listening to bad influence.

The kid doesn't want to talk to his parent anymore.

His parent knows he's been talking to bad influence, but lets him do as he pleases.

The parent and kid don't communicate now.

The kid now hates the parent.

The kid now becomes a criminal trying to get rich fast.

He commits many crimes, murder, torture, even rape, and other horrible things.

The kid listens to a plan made by his bad influence.

*they are going into the kid's parent's house steal an expensive item that one of their "clients" is look to add to his collect at an any price *

The item was also loved, and held by great importance to the parent

The kid got caught with his bad influence friends trying to get the item, by the parent. The bad influences were going to kill the parent, and the kid was not about to do anything about it.

The parent had a gun, and he shot dead the bad influences.

However, he shot only the legs of his kid, crippling him.

He had to kill this murderer and thief, but could only inconveniently cripple him.

He lets his son escape, without his legs, hoping when he recovers, he will not go back to a life of crime and murder again

So even after recovering, the parent shows up at their kid's house every few centuries to shoot them in the legs a couple more times, just because?
