So he's an idiot?

According to OP's premise, I'm supposed to accept that the Maker is responsible for the creation of all things.

And he didn't know what the taint would do? Really?

He stripped their minds from them, gave them a horrific disease, and then cast them in the deep roads. The only reason the darkspawn managed to create Blights is because they hear the singing of the archdemon. Otherwise, they would have wandered around in horrific agony until they killed one another.

How would the Marker know that the archdemons, who are all asleep, would be able to call the darkspawn to them? How would he know that they would have a magical ritual that taints the archdemons and creates a hive mind that allows them to surge and destroy everything?

Remember, the Maker is not omnipresent or omniscient.

He created spirits and didn't know until he observed them that they could only copy things they observed. He created mortals and didn't expect them to murder and enslave one another.

How would the Maker know that darkspawn could reproduce? He made them sterile.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Like, oh my god, for real?

Am I supposed to be on the side of the policeman who crippled his son for stealing? That is insane.

I don't know what the limits of the Maker are supposed to be, but I expect anybody who creates something to know what their creation is going to do, and to fix it if it doesn't work as intended.

That is not a tall order. It's the very least I expect from the jerk who makes my coffee, nevermind the jerk who made my universe.

@shonawarrior

So even after recovering, the parent shows up at their kid's house every few centuries to shoot them in the legs a couple more times, just because?

Mate, the crippling represents the entire blight course, all 7 of them.

The maker hopes that after the 7 blights are over (when the kids recovers), men won't return into doing what the Tervinters did

No, for the murders, and horrible things he committed before this heist as well.

His son was going to kill him

Well, you left out the part where your deranged policeman runs around town, busting caps in the asses of every twenty-year-old he can find.

Why do you expect such a thing? People have children all the time and those kids are rarely exactly what their parents imagined.

How is the Maker supposed to understand human nature before a single human exists?

Do you think the Maker should strip humanity of its free will then? Because if he's going to fix something, he'd probably start with mankind.

Well, your metaphor is bad. The "people of Thedas" did not rise as one to invade the Maker's house.

I'll say it again, it was the action of a few. Maybe a dozen, or even less.

Well, clearly the Maker doesn't exist, he's a fiction deity from a video game.

If Gaider suddenly decides that the Maker exists and it a pretty cool guy, it would happen.

If Gaider suddenly decides that the Maker should come down from the heavens and one-shot KO everyone, it would happen.

'Cuz that's how fiction works.

If you want to have a thinly veiled argument/discussion/rant about Christianity, then please, go to another forum, there are literally hundreds of them.

These "few people" were the ones leading the people of Thedas, through their power, they represented them

In essence, they were the mind of the kid,

and he had to change it.

No they didn't. Leaders do not inherently represent the will of the populace. Even when they are democratically elected, which is not the case with the Tevinter magisters, they cannot claim that their views match up with those of all their subjects.

The fact that these evil people had power over all of Thedas meant that something had to change, and so it did.

Thus the maker made the fall of the Empirium.

If not for the blights, Tervinter would be as powerful, and relenting as it was before. The majority of people in Thedas would still be in hell, as test subjects, or slaves.

People's rights would be violated in plain day for many abominations that the Tervinters need to do.

No one would have would have weakened the Imperium enough to ease their control on slaves long enough for a rebellion like the darkspawn did.

The Qunari wouldn't have a chance, cause they only fought an extremely weakened, and small Tervinter Imperium, that had shrunk because of blights, and had been suffering from exalted marches

Thedas is now more free, but everyone must prove themselves for that weakness, and so they must.

I don't dislike the idea of the Maker, so much as I dislike the picture the chantry paints of the Maker, as the all-loving, benevolent creator. There is nothing altruistic or benevolent about any kind of punishment. Corporeal punishment even less so.

At best, especially given how he's turned his back on Thedas, not once, but twice, he's capricious and temperamental. At best.

Honestly, some pieces in there strikes me as "he didn't get his way, so he threw a tantrum and left, tossing his toys violently aside."

I've figured it out,

people are just insecure/horrified about the idea of a Maker above them.

To me, I don't care

Let's not make this into personal accusations about other people's mindsets.

It seems like Shona is, again, making much todo about nothing.

Since it's a video game and all, I have to ask:

It was more in response to Shona's comment about people being "insecure" or "horrified" at the thought of the Maker.  The topic is okay, it was his reaction that isn't.  You're being cool.   :)
