Poking around with google I found what appears to be the transcript of a BioWare dev meeting, bugged on behalf of a coalition of third-world tin pot dictators (who were after the secret behind Bhelen's success):

A: I think we should set some limit for the inventory capacity, just in case.

c: -
A: Come on, guys, we need a limit here!
d: Ummm...
e: Awww...
Bright young intern: Why don't we throw some fresh bronto dung at a white wall, run a Fourier Transform on the splatter pattern and average the pixel values?
A: Splendid! Make it so.

This is probably not the only constant that was derived in such fashion.
