The Exalted Plains - Orlesian Civil War in the Dales (Masked Empire Spoilers Within)

Based on this blurb, it appears that the Orlesian Civil War will at least partially be fought in the middle of the Dales. I wonder how that will effect any elven gatherings going on during DA:I, and how willing the Dalish will be to risk uniting the entire might of Orlais in the heart of the land the elves hope one day to reclaim.

That name annoys the living hell out of me and gives me one more reason to bring a reckoning to Orlais.

Also looks like the Veil tears are resurrecting the long dead corpses. I'm betting that due to it's bloody history, it might be a site for one of the larger tears.

I was hoping for few more screenshots tbh, but thank you nonetheless.

They're gonna be releasing more throughout the week, I believe.

Really did a good job making it look like a place of death. What i hope to see next is the area with an open field that was shown in the earlier trailers. Hoping there is a big contrast from the grim look, the closer you get to major cities.

"the memory of injustices past and present draws the attention of restless spirits who rise to possess the dead and stalk the living across the blood-steeped earth."
Now I wonder if we are going to meet long dead elves and humans form the Dales conflict. This could be interesting...

That would be interesting, particularly if they had access to memories of the original conflict.

Indeed. However, were they resurrected through simple reanimation, or were they brought back through demons possessing the corpses?

Indeed. It's not much to gather from but from the little that I see, BW has managed to create an intriguing vista with a blend of beauty and certain eeriness to it which grows even more haunting if you take the location's history into account. Imagine how it would feel traveling through it by night, knowing how many died in that place...
Well done on the artistic / design front, BW!

We have seen spirits replicating events of the pasts in the previous games (mostly in DAO and its DLCs) and that happened where the veil was thin. We could have something similar here, with spirit replaying key moments of the Fall of the Dales.
So no need for reanimation or possession, we only need memories...

Except the specifically mentioned undead. In that recreation from DAA in Kal'Hirol, those were just ghosts, nothing physical.

In Warden's Keep, you have both possessed undead attacking everything that move and spirits showing the last moment of the Wardens through weird flashbacks and "echos". They aren't mutually exclusive.
The ghosts can also attack you, it happened in DAA (or was it DAO, the Deep Road looks all the same to me).

Depending on how the Dalish and the Orlesians are duking it out, as well as the undead, I might just burn the whole place down and be done with it.

Sounds more like Sundermount than Warden's Keep.

Imagine Gasprd's and Celene's armies crushing each other (maybe with the Dalish in the middle), and then an army of undead appears. Who you gonna call?
But it makes sense that it's an important battleground. The preview of The Masked Empire hinted that the Empress and the Grand Duke are moving their armies through the Dales. Doesn't Celene have a "Winter Palace" in Halamshiral?

Yup. She does indeed have a place in Halamshiral.

Given the emphasis given on the Dales as a location separate from Orlais, I would love to see that as an option. I'm also hoping the elven storyline isn't marginalized because of the human civil war.

Mm, I don't know. I'd want to say that the elves will have their own main quest, but if the bulk of the Orlesian Civil War is happening in the Dales... Still too early to say anything, however. The only thing we know is that Orlesians are killing each other in the Dales.

Which means it'll probably be heavily tied to the elven plotline... interesting possibilities arise, and I don't think they'd be teased just to be snatched away.

If soI hope the view they present isn't one-sided. The Elves shouldn't come across as noble victims, IMO.
I think it would more interesting if the conflict was sort of like the clash of civilizations between the Spaniards and Aztecs. Hard to find any 'good guys' there.

You're still getting a little ahead of yourself if you can actually bring down Orlais or restore the Dales. The preview doesn't really say much.
Also Shartan was killed in another part of the world before there ever was a Dales, he's only indirectly related to the Exalted Plains.

This is... a terrible example, given the Aztecs' hobbies of war and human sacrifices. And what the living hell is wrong with victims of genocide receiving sympathy?
