Until the Dalish start persecuting the Andrastian City Elves for not converting you mean?

Personally, I'd say we should wait for evidence of this before considering it a major problem. Unless of course the city elves would start doing stupid things like trying to build Circles, but that seems unlikely.

Your the only one making that leap, Lob. I want the elves to be free too, but I don't see the Eluvians as the best way to go about it.

You seem to have missed the last few pages of this thread, then, because it seemed to be a few people thinking the worst about the elves having advanced technology that could benefit a multitude of people.

You can, you know, at the very least follow the laws that they've put into place.  But fair enough.

Also, how short sighted are you?  If the Dalish have more (they already have a mask that can tear the veil, or, so I've heard mentioned in one of the books/comics) veil tearing artifacts, and they use them to threaten human nations, every nation, Andrastian or otherwise, is going to come down on them.  And they'll deserve what they get for unleashing unspeakable horrors onto people who have nothing to do with the situation.

It was in the webseries Redemption that a Saarebas stole that mask of Fen'harel and tried to tear the veil open. Not sure how "official" it is, but Tallis showed up in DA2 DLC so...

Don't forget their belief that being near humans robbed them of immortality. If there are no humans, they get it back.

And yet, one of the clans still adopted the abandoned infant Aveline, and another took in Feynriel, who is technically human, despite having Arianni as a mother.

They are discussing how the power of the Eluvians can be misused. The only reason Dalish is being mentioned is because right now they have possession of them and want to use them for offensive purposes.

That's quite a bit of presumption about how the Dalish would operate as a whole, based on the myriad of clans. I recall the summary about the Dalish reads, "The Keeper that leads each clan also further increases tensions with the Chantry. Apprenticed from a young age, Keepers maintain the traditions of elven magic and pass down their knowledge in turn. The Chantry regards all Keepers as apostates, mages who operate outside of the Circle of Magi, but unlike rogue mages from human society who are quickly hunted down by the templar orders, the Keepers are not so easily taken. Pity the templar who takes it into his heart to track the Dalish into the forests, thinking to take the leader of a clan prisoner."

I'm not quite as cynical on the prospect of an independent elven kingdom as you are.

i would *like* to have your viewpoint, but based on what i have seen i just cant not to say it cant change i just doubt they'll change all that much, we shall see

Given how the Dalish have let their own go their own way numerous times in the past (from Zevran's mother to Velanna and the others who agreed with her to Merrill), I'm not seeing the precedent for this.

If it meant potentially taking away all that they have fought for?

No I do not.

That is not to say that you won't have your extremists on both sides who might skirmish against one another.

skirmishes can quickly escalate, wasnt the start of the exalted march on the dales the result of that very thing along its borders?

So? If they weren't nomads but instead a powerful force do you think they'd be as generous? Both Aveline and Feynriel are beneficial to them just as much as the Dalish were beneficial to Aveline and Feynriel.

Well, none of those examples were exactly welcomed in Dalish society, so why would they be welcome in a Dalish nation?

I'd rather not see an independent elven state be oppressive if the elves aren't servants of humans anymore.

Well, do you think that city elves would want to assimilate into Dalish society or not?

Yes, they can escalate. But that all remains to be seen anyhow. Who's to say that the leaders won't simply come together and talk things out so as to avoid a second bloody war? Everything is already out on the table. There shouldn't be any egregious misunderstandings this time around.

An abandoned baby and an apostate who the templars tortured a child over was beneficial to them how, exactly? Aveline became renown long after her death, while the Sabrae Clan had to deal with the templars who wanted Arianni's son.

not a lot, or many more elves would go into the forest looking for the dalish as it is

I don't think the Dalish will want to assimilate into Thedasian society. They will retain their "Us vs them" nature that they've had for centuries. It would be better for the Dalish to actually leave the aspects of government to the City Elves since they know how to deal with other races.

of course and i hope you are correct but i like to be cautious when it comes to this, and these are events that are still to be decided, perhaps soon, but thats the realm of speculation

It'd be much simpler if the Dalish just gave up their fool notions of independence, its over for them

Aveline: Perfect opportunity to both show off their Dalish techniques to be superior to Orlesian ones and if Aveline rose to power, they have a voice in Orlesian society.

Feynriel: He's a Dreamer, and a Dreamer who can control his or her power is a great asset to have.

it already does, if they had an Eluvian they could waltz into Minrathous, and no one wants that

of course, but this would give the nations a reason to get their act together and actually fight the qunari

If by "let go their own way" you mean "kicked them out" then sure.

I'll also point out that both Merrill and Velanna were actively scorned by their clans for their beliefs.

So I'm not seeing the Dalish happily accepting Andrastian Elves among them.
