I don't think the Dalish will want to assimilate into Thedasian society. They will retain their "Us vs them" nature that they've had for centuries. It would be better for the Dalish to actually leave the aspects of government to the City Elves since they know how to deal with other races.
That wasn't the question I asked. I was asking if the city elves would want to assimilate into Dalish society once they have a homeland again.

Then we have a serious problem. What if the Qunari get their claws on the Eluvian?

of course, but this would give the nations a reason to get their act together and actually fight the qunari
But gives the Qunari an extremely powerful weapon. If the potential damage the Dalish can inflict is as big as we speculate, imagine the damage the Qunari can deal.

If the Dalish want them to accept their way or the highway, no. As I said, why trade one master for another?

then again, the qunari arent big on the whole magic thing so who knows, but that would be a fight for another time i think

I think they'd gain a lot of respect by leaving the domination of human masters, to be honest. As for Andrastianism, it shouldn't be a huge problem unless, as I mentioned, the city elves try to build another Circle or something, and aren't outright disrespectful to the Dalish by calling them heathens or their gods false.

Subjugation under human rule doesn't seem to hold much appeal to the Dalish.
It'd be much simpler if the Dalish just gave up their fool notions of independence, its over for them
Actually, "The Masked Empire" suggests that elven freedom isn't impossible.

That's the tragic thing. If the elves finally do get something of their own, they might just start killing each other if they can't work something out.

One last futile push before the fall
They will never gain the respect or trust of the Andrastian nations, and they sure as hell can't beat them

You misunderstand. Say the elves do build an independent elven nation. The City Elves should be in charge of the government part. The Dalish can be in charge of the history and culture parts, as long as they respect non-Dalish elven views.

If by "let go their own way" you mean "kicked them out" then sure.
I'll also point out that both Merrill and Velanna were actively scorned by their clans for their beliefs.
So I'm not seeing the Dalish happily accepting Andrastian Elves among them.
I'm sure elves following a religion that demonizes the followers of other faiths as 'heathens' and vilifies magic may have trouble accepting the Dalish elves and their mages.

City elves can handle diplomacy and such with other nations, but Dalish should probably run the government, at least equally with initial city elves until the cultural differences slowly fade away.

The Kirkwall elves converted to the Qun at the opportunity to become something more; it's possible some elves would surrender their Andrastian faith for a better opportunity among the Dalish, like Pol did.

They converted to get out of that ceespit called Kirkwall, not out of deep seated convictions about injustice

They would definitely need at least an oligarchy to govern. Or a council of some sort. One that represents both viewpoints. And yes, I meant the City Elves handle the diplomatic parts of the government.

What lunacy is this?
The Dalish are far renowned for their diplomacy.

Like Hinata said it's simply trading one potentially oppressive master for another.

Thankfully, this might not be an issue as time goes by and the cultural differences begin to fade away.

Actually, the Kirkwall elves who converted to the Qun remained in Kirkwall, and even attempted to help the Arishok gain control of the city-state.

Hmm, an Andrastian-Dalish fused culture is an interesting prospect to think about.
