Merrill built her own from extensive research she performed, so it's not even remotely similar to compare it to the ones that were created during the era of Arlathan.

Indeed. It apparently needed this ruby gem that Imshael created to reawaken every Eluvian in Thedas.

Ah but Lobsel is claiming that this clan went against the tenants of the Dalish which seems to be "All spirits are dangerous, avoid".
Therefore, degrees of power are irrelevant, Merril also ignored the tenants of the Dalish. However, he seems to be condemning this clan (and thank goodness for that, one lunatic on these forums is enough) while defending Merril when they, basically, did the same thing; even if Merril didn't went up to a freaking Forbidden One.

Merrill spoke with Audacity to learn blood magic; no bargain was made, the spirit wasn't released, and she says releasing it wasn't an option years later when she thinks Audacity may have escaped. I don't compare the two scenarios as a result.

And that's why apparently she let Loghain live. Fine logic by me.

Canonically, I have Alistair duel him.

Well, it did actually know how to work the eluvians as it told Celene's party, including Briala. So it did technically give her the way to activate the eluvian matrix.

Good, then this whole thing wasn't in vain. Now we can smoke Imshael unless it has something else of use, and then ensure that Briala doesn't forget whose homeland she's sitting on.

And we have heard of no bargain being made with the FO. I am sure the elves had no intention of releasing it, it just outsmarted them; much like how Merril had no intention of releasing her demon but it still got free.

So, elves contact imprisioned demons to ask them questions on how to get Eluvians to work. Again, what is the difference.

I don't understand why is so important Audacity was trapped in a totem.

Because Merrill was building her Eluvian from information she extrapolated from the shard and lore she gathered; she learned blood magic from Audacity, but didn't let it go for her construction attempts.

A clever enough demon can manipulate others to get free, and Audacity was a Pride Demon. He did get free in the end by manipulating Merrill, even if it wasn't the most direct way to do that.

By manipulating Marethari, you mean, since she was the one who released it.

So, you just don't want blood on your hands, but fine if someone does it for you? Do you think it would let you be absolved of responsibility, or is it another twist of your beliefs?

The manipulation of Marethari required manipulating Merril into abandoning the clan which it did by teaching her blood magic.

They were both manipulated.

Were that the case, I'd duel him myself and then have Alistair execute him. I choose this simply because I believe it's more Alistair's fight than mine, IC.

Merrill wanted to pursue her own path by constructing the Eluvian before she met Audacity, which is why she took the shard from the Elvhen Ruins in the first place.

One could even say she had a great deal of... audacity.

That sparing Loghain doesn't continue the slave trade; it can be stopped, and sparing the Teyrn doesn't revive it.

Ideally I'd imprison him, but that's not an option.

So, if it doesn't happen a moment ago, it obviously never happened and a person cannot be held responsible for the acts of enslaving? Another fine moment of logic, maybe it's time to stop before you dig yourself deeper?

You might want to try addressing what I've actually said, instead of trying to move the goalpost because I poked giant holes in your retort to Xil. :)

I take it that it's fair to condemn all templars as rapists and torturers, then? I'm genuinely curious, because I've read page after page condemning all the Dalish for a single clan who disregarded the tenants of the Dalish.

Every single DA game has had a situation involving the Dalish leadership going full retard and either almost or actually destroying themselves.

They may be a deeply wounded people with a tragic history but their leadership is stupefyingly incompetent.

You do the same Lob.

Honestly the lack of modesty among forum goers here reveals a complete lack of decorum.

Except for Velanna's Keeper Ilshae and Ariane's Keeper, and Zathrian is supplanted by the extremely competent Lanaya.

Would you answer what is the period of amnesty in your eyes? So we can absolve all past criminals of their crimes, if it were up to you? Obviously less than year in case of Loghain.

The point was that Xil was opposed to slavery. Stop moving the goalpost and, instead, address the actual point.

Do you think there is a contest at these gatherings to see whose Keeper made the worst decision?

"I cursed my clan with Lycanthropy!

I kept my clan close to the center of Templar power in the East for seven years.

Pffft, that's nothing. I released a Forbidden One."
