Briala activates the Eluvians and uses them. She claims them because she had Michel concede the fight at her behest, when he could have killed Gaspard, in a duel. As a result, she 'claimed' the Eluvians, instead of either Celene or Gaspard, and she alone knows the phrase needed to activate them.

Ah, so it's a word...very interesting. I wonder if they still transmit the Taint though...

Very tangentially. It's just a background element and doesn't interfere with any of the main quest content elsewhere.

 

I have to agree with you on that. I hope Inquisition has the same tasteful approach to the Orlesian Civil War and the rest of the quests.

 

There's nothing to suggest that. Andraste brought back worship of the Maker among the human tribes, while the elves followed the old traditions, and created an entire kingdom in pursuit of restoring their lost culture. I don't see why Shartan would forsake the Creators for a shemlen religion.

 

Nothing except that Cahntry parafernalia had its share of depictions of Shartan and the Canticle before saying good things about the elves became heresy, and Sister Petrine calls him a devotee of Andraste in the codex entry about Glandivalis. Ok, Chantry souces can be biased, but what about Shartan's very spirit guarding the Sacred Ashes?

 

It's not definite proof, I agree, but it's more than just assuming he didn't believe in her because the elves of the Dales didn't.

It's not bloody Shartan. It's a programmed illusion that turns into ash wraiths if you get the answer wrong. Nothing in the Gauntlet is real.

Even still though, how can Briala actually "claim them"? Do we even know where they all are, or even how to activate the damn things?

It was a duel, and Briala's intervention meant that she technically won control over them. Gaspard lost to Michel, while Michel conceded right before the killing blow because he owed Briala, and he's a true chevalier.

No, because Briala offers to tell Felassan for the Eluvian, and he declines learning the word. Apparently, he was supposed to get the phrase for someone, but the identity of the person wasn't revealed in the preview.

I got the impression from the scene that she chose her own. The Eluvians were well guarded, after all, and she used the Eluvian to transport Celene to a location of her choosing, without the need for another Eluvian at the other side.

My bet is that Morrigan knows how to work all the eluvians, and in that regard is probably more adept in knowledge about them than Briala.

We've had an option every other time something like this has happened.

 

The last time Morrigan had an eluvian on her hands nobody could stop her. Even stabbing her didn't seem to cause much trouble for her. So I wouldn't get my hopes too high about this.

That changes everything...you don't need a corresponding mirror? So you could literally drop an army anywhere in Orlais...only using 1 mirror?
