While true, more than other they have been the stubborn allies good guys

Yeah, well I guess we can thank Tolkien and how his depiction of Elves have engrained this "goody-two-shoes" image of Elves into the brains of generations.

What the hell happened to the mist-dancing Elves who enraptured and tricked men into their doom in the Northern European swamps??

Lazy, walk around and take in the view

XD but but...too long!

I'm purty sure the Dark Elves of Warhammer qualify as villains. I mean... They worship the god of Murder and bathe in the blood of their captives.. At least they seem villainous..

So an Elven people being villainous in fiction isn't exactly unprecedented.

Are there any elves that are villainous as a majority without the typical light elves while dark elves and probably mixed with some other species to make them evil? (Not saying this about the Dark Elves of Warhammer since I have no idea about them whatsoever).

Those aren't pixies?

I loved how wide and expansive the deep roads were! One of the best parts in DAO for me.

Ugh but there was nothing down there but dirt, SPIDERS and darkspawn.

You mean where the majority of Elves are villains? Because if so, not that I know of.

Tolkien was aware of them. He just wanted to do something different. Ironically, Tolkien was very original by going in that direction.

Kingdoms of Amalur had a faction of elves as the main antagonists.

I know. However what the author knows is insignificant to the image his readers percieve. And since (assumption on my part) more people are familiar with Tolkien work, than ancient germanic folklore, most people see Elves as benevolent beings initially.

Technically I suppose that the Witcher 2 did as well, at least potentially. But in both cases it is only an Elven faction and not the majority of Elves.

For villainous elves you guys should check out Steven Erikson's the Malazan Book of The Fallen as a race or two that could be considered like so. The Tiste Liosan race with their genocidal take on justice, to be precise.

Heh, the amount of feedback on the ways of the ancient Arlathan shows, that it wasn't only me, who had a certain level of resentment towards the "smug sense of superiority" of the Dalish.

You know, Feel better now about the Dalish.

There aren't the misunderstood bigots that some people try to make them out to be.

They based off a culture as vile and evil as anything produced by Humanity.

I feel that I've missed something. Again. Was some secret about Arlathan revealed in The Masked Empire?
