It breaks my heart that you lot aren't getting your city elves. You have my sincerest condolences.

I don't feel the sincerity.

I honestly wish they were still an option, along with the Circle elves.  But I'm still happy to be able to play an elf at all, and the Dalish were my first choice this time around.

I am going to play the oppression card sooooooooo much!

Me too. Though If they're anything like Origins, I do not think they'll be trusting towards a human Inquisitor. They have their rightful prejudices as well.

The Dalish Inquisitor helping out the elves as a whole will be a thing of beauty.

If the sacrifice needed for me to get my Qunari, is the other players' CE, then that is a sacrifice I am willing to make!

Probably not. But then again, I am not going to play anyhting else than human and Qunari (assumption), so anything beyond those two race choices, are generally not going to mean much to me.

Yes. Your name literally means "a person sent on a special mission, usually as a diplomatic representative, of a false statement to a person or group made by another person or group who knows it is not the whole truth, intentionally."

But surely you would still play as Dalish, dear Ryzaki.

A fallible character's biased opinion doesn't set or change the definition of slavery when their example is incompatible to it's original definition and in universe examples of slavery as in the case of Orana. In contrast the mages are well learned, not forced to work or without pay and could contest Chantry/Templar authority by voting for secession. The CoM was a perpetual quarantine that at it's worst could be considered a prison.

Multiple characters have called it slavery from different time periods. It's an in-character view of the Chantry controlled Circles. Also, you're citing something that mimicked real world slavery at certain periods, and can be expanded on - fine clothes, accommodations, education; that didn't change that it was still slavery then. Furthermore, in the City of Amaranthine, Wynne noted that voting for autonomy would lead to an attempted massacre against all the mages.

My point was, if the Dalish should forgo their faith, their heritage, and their culture because of the alleged slavery during Arlathan, why shouldn't Andrastians do the same when the Chantry has practiced slavery?

But continue on with the butchering of slavery's definition to gain a dubious moral high ground.

In-character views of the Chantry controlled Circles, you mean.

Nice obfuscating stupidity. The elves of Arlathan were put on a moral pedestal by virtue of Tevinter/humanity being their enemies on these forums. Now that the negatives of their culture have come to light their fanboys feel like or are being called to task while the Dalish continue to be portrayed as either @ss backwards or morally gray like their human counterparts.

I'm used to the insults at this point. Regardless, I don't recall anyone putting Arlathan on a pedestal. The point that was made about how different the ancient elves were in comparison to their descendants. The elven lore mentions their immortality; Merrill mentions that they all possessed magical ability. A different (almost alien) era, with a wholly different people who took centuries when greeting one another.

As for moral, enslaving people isn't moral. It isn't excusable when Tevinter did it, and I see no reason to excuse Arlathan if they did it. Of course, some people on your side defended the Imperium enslaving the elves because the Arlathan elves withdrew themselves because of the quickening.

The only hypocrisy with the Dalish reclaiming the glory of their past would be if someone supports slavery and imperialism amongst one group but decries it in them. So far Tevinter is reviled on this board while Orlais is considered ham and cheese.

I'm not seeing the imperialism in the elves having a homeland where they can be free, when there's literally nowhere else on Thedas they can be their own masters. And I'm not seeing the ethos of the Dalish supporting slavery or conquest. Their own homeland, yes.

So do people still want to support better living conditions and equality for the elves? City elves, at least?

I still want all the elves to have their own kingdom.

Your words cut deeper than a murder knife.

I am appalled, offended, shook up, flabbergasted, taken aback, dismayed, shocked, bamboozled at such accusations.

I'll have you know that I am incapable of lying.

My name was given to me by my friend Kakristine, Kakristine and I made a bet, I bet that he couldn't steal candy from some wench's baby while she was there. I lost the bet. I was therefore forced to name my profile "Emissary of Lies" as per our agreement: That I would name my next forum board avatar as a Liar so people would doubt the validity of my claims if I were to lose.  I, like the City Elves, am a victim.

In dire need of aid, I daresay.

In dire need of aid for what? Or quoting the Arishok -- What do you want, human?

Nah. :D

My favorite Origin was my Surana Warden, and he was from the Denerim Alienage, stolen from his family at a young age and imprisoned in the Circle; he became an atheist. Pragmatic blood mage who thought the darkspawn needed to be stopped, no matter the cost. He romanced Morrigan and joined her beyond the Eluvian with his faithful Mabari Hound and his son.

Technically, a city elf. :)

I like playing as different characters, but being a mage in Andrastian society tended to put my mindset towards freedom from a system I morally opposed, both from an in-character perspective and as a player. I'm actually thinking my first run as the Dalish Inquisitor will be quite different from my canon runs - no dealing with spirits, no blood magic, playing as a follower of the Creators, having a character who is primarily focused on the Elvhen and not on the plight of the mages.
