I was think about the line used about your new character in ME3 if Shepard dies that "you will play as a 'Shepard' just not your Shepard". Then in the Launch Trailer Miranda mentiosn that if Shepard dies then humanity will follow. This got me thinking.

Theory:

Shepard's death is never reported. Humanity realizes that Shepard is a symbol of everything humanity can achieve. So instead they find a new soldier. The best of best (or second best I guess). They then put him/her through plastic surgery (character creator screen!)  to look just like Shepard. So in ME3 you play as a 'Shepard' just not your Shepard.

What they mean is that you won't be able to import your Shepard into ME3 and thus you have to use their Shepard, the default Shepard that you can choose whenever you load up ME1 now. All your decisions from ME1 and 2 will have been made for you etc. In short it's not a fake Shepard it's just not your Shepard. It's BioWare's Shepard.

Basically don't get yourself killed and you'll be able to use your own Shepard.

Maybe Verner didn't die. Maybe the Lazarus project was meant to put him back together, since he's always been the better soldier?

They meant that you will start a "New Game" without importing your ME2 character(since it's dead), not that they will think of some farfetched plan on why it's a new SHepard.

You cant "kill" Conrad. You can only brush him off and he goes and does something stupid that gets himself killed.

I sort of assume they'll just clone him again.

Very interesting theory, although as said, you will just use default Shepard. And they didn't clone Shepard, they recovered his body. And they wouldn't be able to get his body if you die at the Collector base because no one can get through the Omega 4 relay.

Shepard dying isn't canon. If he/she dies you can't import that save

This. How difficult is it people? If he does, you can't import. If he lives, you can.

If Shepard dies in ME2, thats it. No new character at all. Bioware already stated this. This is old news.

I've seen the interviews where they said you won't be able to import your save, but I've seen nothing stating that you won't be able to start a brand new character. would you mind linking your source on this, please? I don't mean to doubt, but it's something I'd be interested in reading. Cheers...

Unless ME3 is a flight simulator - I don't see an option for a cripple pilot to have a go.
