A Third Class Exclusive to Dwarves

How about allowing Dwarves characters to choose a new class exclusive to them, since they can't use magic. Someone in the BioWare Chantry thread suggested runes crafting, (or alchemists) and other kinds of crafts being their specialization, allowing them to use anything they find as ammo.

They'd basically consume stamina to create their ammo, poisons and explosives unlike other classes, using ingredients from your own resources or the surrounding resources (depending on the maps you're on) and creating various effects. This would be a long ranged/support class mainly, but it could be changed with other specs, giving more depths to the dwarven protagonists who aren't focusing on being a warrior or a rogue. Lore wise, this could be a class inspired by characters like Dagna who went to the Circle in Ferelden to learn more about magic and runes.

Alchemy seems like a good alternative to magic. If the third class isn't possible at this moment, maybe a specialization exclusive to dwarves for that would be a good alternative. Other races could have alternatives for other kinds of exclusive specs/jobs.

Another thing I could suggest, making them the alternative to Arcane Warriors. Infusing lyrium or their own blood (or whatever that makes them resistant to magic) to weapons, items and making them magical without the need to put permanent runes into them.

Instead of a whole new class, what if they just get a special skill tree or something? Perhaps a buff to Alchemy and Runecrafting or something similar.

I actually kind of like this idea. I think it could work. I like it a lot actually.

I wonder if they could do something with red lyrium without going mad. DA2 showed that in it's raw form red lyrium can send even Dwarves insane but I wonder if it could be processed in someway so that Dwarves are no longer effected. The PAX demo showed the red templars doing some red lyrium magicy stuff (Cant find the picture right now, I'll look later) so by using red lyrium its possible that Dwarves could actually use some magic like powers.

Edit: okay here's the picture of the red lyrium magicy stuff:

Love this idea. Would give me a reason to try out the dwarf class!

What about an unarmed class. I mean in the books utha used her bare hands to fight! Why not make a new dwarven class like that!

Why not a skill? This ability does not seem like it would be exclusive to a class or has enough potential to be it's own class.

It'd be interesting to see Awakening's Legion of the Dead/Legionnaire Scout specialization make a return. More fleshed out, though, like the DA2 specs. Of course, it could be dwarf exclusive, sort of like Keeper was to elf mages.

I'm not sure I would make a dwarf only class, though yes, I certainly do think DA should have at least a 4th class.

There was some discussion of implementing racial abilities in DAI, it would be interesting to try and implement the dwarven "stone sense" they have in the lore, into the game.

Lyrium infused cestuses?

But can you work with lyrium on dwarves' skins? I mean, the are immune to the effects of lyrium, but as I'm not a scientist in Thedas, I'm not exactly sure how it works with dwarves and lyrium.

A nugwrangler class sounds rather fun to play as. Though I think giving a special ability would be more realistic from a production standpoint.

Or passives (albeit, passives are rather boring) that effect the game in some way.

+ Sprinkles, 10% increased magic resistance

+ Persistent, +1 HP regeneration outside combat. When under the effects of second wind you gain a chance to rise up again in combat

+ Heavy Drinker, whether this is an advantage or a disadvantage depends on personal view

+ Heavy Hitter, damage inflicted with critical hits increased by 5%

+ Small, increased chance to avoid projectiles. 20% chance to avoid ranged attacks completely.

+ Heavy handed, (affects dialogs and cutscenes) your actions, including but not limited to, punching, kicking and slapping has extra impact.

+ Sure footed, immune to knock backs from heavy blows

+ Resourceful (Rogue only) You got wits and you got skills. Your sabotage abilities recharge 5% faster.

- Clumsy, you occasionally trip and fall over in and out of combat. This may also lead to additional injuries from others trampling over you. (Damage and effects on you varies)

- Cumbersome, most weapons and armor you come across does not seem to fit you. Movement speed decreased by 10% and attack speed decreased by 8%.

- Wounded Pride, being the laughing stock has cost you a lot of self confidence. Penalty to party approval with a decreased chance to resist magical effects.

- Sunken Pride, when beardless or chesthairless you suffer an additional penalty to party approval on top of Wounded Pride. You also become highly vulnerable to magic hexes and effects (particularly fire and mind damage)

That's all for now. Sorry, I had too much fun writing all of that.

What about a golem summoner-type class? I know dwarves aren't the only ones who could control golems, but it could be something worth checking out.

Dunno, but I would love for dwarves to go "high ho, high ho, it's off to work we go" as a "tag line" every time you click on them.

There will be sieges and destructible environments. Perhaps some dwarves should focus on ... demolitions, like in Warcraft. We know they're interested in Qunari blasting powder.

I know that few will agree with me, and the devs have ruled this out in the past, but here goes anyway....

The third class for dwarves should be an arquebus.  "Boom" indeed.

In Thedas, the Qunari are closest to that.

"Sandal" class for Dwarves.
Dialog lines: Enchantment! (aggressive),Enchantment? (diplomatic),Enchantment?! (neutral),Not Enchantment! (special dialog option).
Can enchant all items.
The ability to manipulate runes powers without applying them to items first.
Killing hordes of enemies with no back-up.
Immune to lyrium negative effects.
LOTR style "cannon-ball" into the bulk of an enemy horde to gain advantage.
If eaten by big enemy(Ogre/Dragon/etc.) capable of destroying it from the inside-out.

I think it would be easier to simply just improve the Warrior and Rogue class for Dwarves rather than creating a new class in the middle of the game series.

Although maybe a Golem class(not a race),something like Shale,Dwarf infused with Crystals or Lyrium(red?)?

if they do a third class I would like to see something with a golem.. either summon one to fight or wear one like power armor and beat thigns with your large stone fists..you can level up and alter what your make the golem with and use crystals to enhance armor and effects like shale..you could even gain buffs from the armor your pc wears normally making it a pure tank class thats heavy resistance to magic.

Dwarves aren't third class. They have many different castes, but all the dwarves seen in the previous two games have been really classy, even tho' one PC was upper class and the other lower class. Dwarves are first class all the time, every day and every way!

;)
