Why did BW scrap the inventory system instead of fixing it?

Perhaps you should look around, every other topic open seems to be on this matter:

read through those for your answers.

I think the question should be "Why are inventory systems so integral to every rpg I've ever played?"

Besides, the new core audience would have been confuzzled.

Because it sucked, and didn't really add anything to the game.

How about because "They're necessary?" lol

You will pick up guns (or gun schematics, sort of), research equipment, and other things apparently. They will not be jumbled together in one amalgam of a loading screen, is all.

Anything you pick up in the field isn't really grabbed as much as it is scanned, so that your team on the ship can replicate it or research into it for you to use later.
Inventory is very different this time around, remember. You won't have access to it at all times, so you'll have to plan your loadout strategically.

To sum it up, BW have attempted to remove the redundant "dungeon crawl" mechanics that were present in ME1 I.E. loot hoarding, and replace them with a system more fitting to the theme of the game.
You still have an "inventory system", in one way or another. It just doesn't go the route that most fantasy RPGs go.
It's a fair change. Remember, ME2 is a genre in itself, so it's only fitting that BW attempt to do something new with it.

That is the best "pro-change", one-line argument I've heard. I suspect I will still miss the (admittedly crappy) inventory system (old school CRPGer), but ME1's primary strength was the storytelling, not the combat nor the inventory. And I loved it. The storytelling will be just as good, the combat improved, and the inventory changed. It'll be great.Darth_Shizz wrote...

I'm replaying right now and I have to make in depth inventory cleansing sessions after every 1 or 2 side missions because my inventory is filled to the hilt with stuff I will never use.
Even if ME1 had just an Auto Reduce to Omni Gel function for items of certain class levels and below would have been a help.
I'm excited to check out the new inventory system, does anyone have any good links for in depth previews to this new inventory system?

But I can see where the devs are coming from too, I mean your suppose to be this lean small covert squad, so why would you be carrying around a magical bag full of crap.

^ This. It manages to convey my thoughts without the bile or sarcasm.

Are they? I weep for the state of the RPG genre if one of its key tenets is having an inventory system.

Legacy can go to the corner with the rest of the RPG elitists crying over the "death" of the genre, by Bioware's hand no less.

Yes please. The topic duplication on here has become rampant in the last week. Its like people are only able to talk at each other instead of to each other.SnowHeart1 wrote...
Look at the threads Darth_Shizz linked, particularly the second. Not trying to be mean, but this is a kind of touchy subject that has been somewhat thoroughly (and rabidly) discussed by both those who like the change and those who don't.

Because, when EA hand the franchise over to Treyarch to make Call of Duty : Future Warfare, it needs to already be dumbed down enough for them to easily work with.

The inventory system couldn't be "fixed." It was a godawful mess of tedium.Sometimes, an animal just won't get better, so you have to put it down.
It could easily have been fixed, infact just stacking everything with the same name together and having the option to mass Omni-gel would have improved things enormously.

I suggest checking out the first few minutes of the XFire stream playthru that was done a few nights ago. They go thru it pretty quickly, but if you pause and back up a bit you can get the main ideas of how it works.arjay2813 wrote...
