How underwhelming, but not shocking. Given the choice I would rather have the warden. I sincerely hope that this doesn't mean he is not a companion.

I just want companions who seem to fit with the mission well. I don't know much about inquisitors or inquisitions, but they seem to have a long history dealing with the effects of magic, and being associated with the Chantry (if somewhat loosely). I don't want random people coming in, like it's a group of adventurers like Hawke's group (who mostly just met because they wanted to make money. Pretty general goal). So I just hope everyone has a story and role that clicks with it.

Actually, I just found a note elsewhere that said the 9 companions will be "leaders." I can't picture Cole as the leading type, so now this is what I think the companion layout will be:

Warriors: Cassandra (Leader of Seekers), Cullen (Leader of Templars), Blackbeard (Leader of Grey Wardens)

Rogues: Varric (Leader of Merchants Guild), Sera (Leader of City Elves), Iron Bull (Leader of Tal'Vashoth Mercenaries--yeah, yeah, I know he's as much a rogue as Cullen is an Arcane Warrior, but just let me finish)

Mages: Vivienne (Leader of Circle Mages), DHMG (Leader of Tevinter Mages), Solas (Leader of Apostates)

I think Cole's out. I mean, really, what could he be the leader of? Leader of Fade-Torn Spirits? Actually, that's kind of a catchy title. He could run his own financial tracking service with a name like that, tbh.

I'm sticking with my gut and believe Cullen's in and shall not think differently, unless a dev comes forth and says "HE'S NOT!" then I'll have to grudgingly accept defeat. :( Females hate being wrong. I'm a female, so I should know. At least, I think I'm a female. Might have to ask Alistair just to be sure.

Wasn't IB confirmed to be a 2-handed warrior at the Pax panel?

LadyInsanity's blog called him a "two hander", which I think most people think is two handed warrior. A few people are hanging on to the possibility that it's a dual wielder rogue. I think that's.. unlikely. lol

Ahah, that's what it was. Thank you for clearing that up, Mort.

I think the perception just comes from DA2. Arishok was also technically a rogue (maybe he was literally too, but mostly because that's what dual wielding mechanics were limited to).

Wouldnt having a warrior with Templar skills be helpful if Abominations invade from the fade?

Actually I thought this exact thing. Battlemages can use swords and shields.

If he has a shield though, he'd probably still function as a warrior (and a tank). Even if he attacked with spells.

Yeah, I'm thinking Iron Bull is going to be a rogue, just like the Arishok from DA2 was technically a rogue. Honestly, I am not as convinced as everyone else that Blackbeard will be a companion. Maybe, but just as with Cullen, we can speculate that he is a major NPC, not a companion. *shrugs*

ETA: I should specify that I actually do think Cullen will be a companion. But I have seen the speculation many times that he could just be a romance-able NPC. Just saying the same could be true of the Warden.

So I'm thrilled that Cullen has been confirmed as an LI.  If the other one isn't the Warden or Iron Bull, looks like my male Qunari Inquisitor will be eyeing up Cullen.  Hope he's open for both males and females.

Kind of bummed that they are doing the 3/3/3 split on companion classes only because it means that if Cullen, Iron Bull, and the Warden are all warriors, we can't have all three of them.  I'm just not feeling Cole, so I'm hoping that he doesn't end up being a rogue.   Looking forward to seeing some more updates.  Glad that these past few weeks have been really informative!

I don't think Iron Bull will be a rogue - he's carrying a two handed weapon that is insanely huge.

Edit: WHOA. I was actually referring to a real weapon. But after re-reading that I see the sexual innuendo.

Well that's the beauty of a battlemage.

They called Iron Bull a "two hander" at PAX and he's constantly depicted with a giant, two handed sword. I think it's EXTREMELY unlikely that he is a rogue at this point.

It'd be kind of cool if there was a battlemage type that held aggro with spells. Like AoE tanking powers or glyphs.

I don't want to get carried away talking about this Warden specifically, but it'd be cool to see in general.

Cullen is not a companion.

I know this because I am from the future.

...

Seriously though, I highly doubt Cullen's a companion.

I think the warriors will be:

Cassandra

The Iron Bull

Beardy

But he's no doubt got a large part (giggity) in the game, and is a LI.

Since I know that David Gaider isn't a fan of NPC romance, I'm betting Cullen is far more than just some NPC.  That being said...

Congratulations Cullen fans!!!  After all the crap you guys went through just for liking him, I'm very glad that you've got him around.   :)

Oh and for those that wanted Cullen out of the game just to spite his fans:

I know another thing that he might be called a "two hander" for.

Okay, I can't help it.   I'm a little hyper tonight.

Edit: Putting this gif into spoilers, since it's rather fast paced and a little obnoxious.
