The only thing I really take from this right now is that Cullen will have an important role in the game and a lot of screen time. I also feel confident that there will be romance. I'm just not convinced he's a companion. I'd settle for him being a non-companion LI, I guess. I just have this intense desire to have him fight alongside me for once.

@ellisgreg Greg, you lovely man, is Cullen the Inquisitor's playable party companion in addition to a romance option for the Inquisitor?

Hm. I'd really like some confirmation from the devs as to Cullen's role in Inquisition. Looking into each word carefully as to not get the wrong idea ('ooh companionship confirmed could not mean COMPANION confirmed' etcetc) is very tiring, hahah. Since they are letting him talk and we know he is in Inquisition, why not confirm if he is a party member or not?

I guess we wait and see if someone can explain to Greg Ellis what a companion is in 140 characters or less, and find out whether or not he's playing one.
I wouldn't be all that surprised if he's not a companion but is a love interest.

I'm pretty sure that the Seekers and Templars are independent organizations.

Cassandra is a seeker, from an independent organization. Seekers must keep an eyes on mages but also on the templars who are quite suspicious about them whenever one of them comes to investigate. In Dawn of the seeker, the relationship between templars and Seekers didn't seem really friendly. In my opinion, Cassandra is more pro-chantry than anything else, and we know thanks to Asunder, that the Divine Justinia is rather progressive toward mages. So I'm uncertain that she could really represent their point of view.

We've heard before that many voice actors who aren't familiar with videogames sometimes have almost no idea what they're doing or who their character is supposed to be, so I think over-interpreting Greg's comments isn't really that useful.
(I remember reading in a Vanity Fair profile of Jennifer Hale that she seemed to be totally lost when someone mentioned Cerberus - as enthusiastic as the actors are about the games, it's a bit much to expect them to know everything about their characters.)
I agree, I think it's totally possible that Cullen is a romance option but not a party member.

Didn't Meer say he played the games though? He picked the control renegade ending as his fav (for good reason Muwahahaha best ending).

Some actors do, Meer is an exception it seems. The only other VA I know that games is Aisha Tyler and she kinda sorta doesn't count much as a VA.

...yeah, I don't think we can take his "YES" to the earlier question as confirmation just yet.
While I never doubted that Cullen would appear in DAI in some fashion, it is nice to have THAT much confirmed.

Templemen Said he played DAO.
Don't know if he followed the series after that, but he did confirm he played Origins.

Some VA's do play their own video games (David Hayter for example loves the MGS franchise) but there are also alot of VA's that don't play their own video games or don't even play games at all. Greg Ellis is an actor that just does VA on the side. So its very possible he has never played the DA games.

Yeah, I think it depends on the actors. I can't really see Martin Sheen sitting down to a multiplayer session of ME3 or whatever.
And if the actors come from a theatre or film background rather than being gamers themselves, then I can understand why they wouldn't be familiar with gaming terms or conventions (let alone ones as specific as Bioware's stuff).
Like David said in that post I linked to above, it's easier if a voice actor knows what a "mage" is so they don't need to explain it - but they're not going to cut an actor just for being clueless about DA lore or whatever.

Yeah, I'm inclined to think that the romance scenes that he recorded pretty much confirms that Cullen is an LI. Given that he doesn't even know what a "companion" is in regards to the game, I'm not sure if we can say anything about Cullen's role at this point.

Heh, it would be kinda funny if turns out "I meant, yes there is romance and companionship in Dragon Age."
Neither question or answer really specified he was talking about Cullen then. ![]()

I seriously doubt that Titanic's Greg Ellis has time to play his games, not when he's starring in movies like Titanic and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Although this would actually be pretty hilarious, I'm pretty sure that he talked about making "raunchy" sounds into the microphone, so I'm pretty sure that he was talking about his own character.

After having slept on the news, part of me is wondering if Ser Ellis misunderstood the question being asked of him. It happened when he was asked if he'd be back to voice Anders in DA2. I believe he said, "I think so," and most folk assumed this meant yes, but then it was revealed he wasn't. Ah, good times. ![]()
Eh, until a dev confirms one way or the other, I'll just be over here excited over the fact that Cullen's in the game enough to warrant naughty dialogue.
