Hawke as a potential villain/antagonist

Is it just me or Hawke could make for an excellent villain. He/she will have to fit in after the events of Dragon Age 2.

The reason why I came up with this is because I notice a lot of people complain about the lack of depth of villains. Which results in people not caring so much about them. Since Hawke is obviously someone you play as in the entirety of Dragon Age 2 it could potentially add some interesting... tension.

Yeah, the whole Rogue Protagonist thing doesn't generally work all that well - see Prototype 2 - unless the story in which said Protagonist appeared was all about his journey to becoming a villain. Even then, it's not as satisfying as you may think.

However you roleplayed him, Hawke was basically a decent person who fought to save Kirkwall. Him going suddenly evil wouldn't make much sense.

Hmm... you are right about Prototype 2. Though I do think that it was just handled poorly.

My main 'inspiration' comes form the Ogre Battle series where some chapters your previous protagonist turns out to be one of the villains in a latter chapter. (For those who know what I am talking about; it's Lancelot Tartaros/Alphonse, the main protagonist in Knight of Lodis who appears again as a villain in Let Us Cling Together)

I guess what I am looking for is the 'personal stake' factor.

nope. Hawke as a character is very weak. If we are about to dispose of him, it will be a pleasure.

Yeah, unfortunately Hawke isn't much to go by, but you can't really deny that many people like him.

P.S. Burn the heretic!

Make the previous hero an antagonist you say? Bioware was way ahead of you in that department.

many people like DA2 in general. But if i will face a situation with Hawke standing in my way... gonna slay him, without second thought.

But i really don't think that we will see Warden or Hawke. Besides even if brain of the Hawke is still dead, at least his self preservation instinct should tell him to hide in some hole during all this mess. Unless he will save pc hide in some moment looking badass at the same time. Which is possible.

I've seen several times saying that Hawke and the Warden will show up in some capacity. Personally, i'd love for whatever the final battle is, to have my party consist of the Inquisitor, Hawke, and the Warden. Dream team at the edge of the world, fighting to pull it back.

Contrary to popular belief, some people like Hawke. So, making me kill my former protagonist, that I actually liked, because some people either

a) are childish and can't get off the hate bandwagon or

b )want 'tension'

isn't a good idea.

Besides, there's no reason for Hawke to become a villain.

So... No. Just..... no.

If Hawke does show up as a villain it might be dependent on which side your inquisitor takes in the mage-templar war. Like if your Hawke is a mage supporter and your inquisitor sides with the templars then you would have to fight him/her and vice versa.

It is not unheard off that even among 'good' people, goals can conflict with each other. Whether it is in principle or method.

And speaking of tension. Many good stories have a tension factor. A climax which makes you wonder how things will turn out in the end. To not want tension in a story at all will make it shallow and thoughtless.

An oldie...

Upset that their name has faded into obscurity due to the rising tensions between the Templars and Mages, Hawke strives to create and stop a disaster in order to rekindle public interest in their name.

Inquisitor: "You did this, why?!"

Hawke: "During my exile all i heard was mage this, Templar that, Anders here and Varric there. No mention of Hawke anywhere."

"So it got me thinking, what if i were to tear the Veil then fix it? I would be heralded as the Hero of Thedas, and my name would be celebrated for all of e-

Inquisitor: "Bastard! Do you know how many people were killed?"

Hawke: "Do you remember how many breads you have eaten in your life?"

Inquisitor: :\

I understand everyones point of view, but my opinion is that I liked DA2 and hawkes story because it part of the larger dragon age picture, but i can also see what you guys are talking about hawke being a villian, it does put u more into the whole story deeper and then makes choices that much harder, even though ppl are hating on DA2 and/or hawke himself, those ppl still built a connection with hawke and the story.

Yep i liked Hawke and certainly would find the notion of him/her being twisted into an antagonist unappealing.

No thanks. I absolutely don't want to be able to kill my own character, which is really what the suggestion amounts to. I bet there are enough gamers who will start another riot against Bioware if Hawke becomes a villain. With so many gamers having been disappointed in the last couple of games from Bioware more controversy is not welcome.

Yeah, no. I love certain versions of Hawke too much to see her twisted into something she's not without my say. I would rather never see Hawke or the Warden again than see them become what "Revan" became in SWTOR.

Besides it being a rather cheesy plot device, this won't happen simply because each Dragon Age game is meant to be a stand-alone title.

Imagine you're a newcomer to the Dragon Age series. This guy shows up who you're informed was the hero of the previous game, but has now turned to evil. What's your reaction? At best, you might find it mildly interesting, but it's more likely that you shrug your shoulders and move on. Like, why would you care?

Your best argument for featuring Hawke as a villain is effectively rendered moot when considering the Dragon Age newbies.

Wow I must be in a really agreeable mood today but man I think this is a GREAT idea.

I absolutely loved my male Hawke (of which I've recently reminded myself by replaying DA2) and would love to see him make an appearance in any capacity. As a villain? YYYEEESSS!! It would be an arguably unprecedented move and would definitely have the shock value, at least for me. I don't think it'd be cheesy at all.

I think Hawke could be properly introduced and nicely fleshed out in DAI for people who maybe hadn't played DA2, to avoid giving people who HAVE played it some kind of advantage.

Yeah.. I get the idea the person was trying to say..  Making into a fun story..but no..they will not be the bad guys.. I guess main person in DA:I could disagree with them..maybe lead to fight but..don't seem them being the antagonist..    But I feel we will see them..don't know when..but some day..because at the end of DA:2 they both left.. to do some thing..so something big is coming..   I mean.. DA:A the warden was left with a message by Miss.M and as well an item..  which was not the book that was stolen.

I would love to meet them in some furture DA game  or even DA:I DLC/ expansion. where you could have conflict with  them or work with them but not them being the anatgonist..naw.. I dont know about that ^^

Why Hawke, why not the Warden?
