wonder what the paints mean.

Seems like turians would have subsumed any clannish or tribal social structures into their pervasive military state a long time ago.

maybe they're unit affiliations?

edit: oh, right, it's a colony vs Palaven thing

Based on ME3 multiplayer, I kinda hope they go with a more modular approach to leveling protagonists in ME4 rather than rigid classes with set abilities.

They came up with a lot of really neat powers (especially for multiplayer) and it would be cool to be able to mix-and-match. Whether it were completely free-form or still had guidelines based on class. Like if a single-player Sentinel got to pick out any three biotic powers and any three tech powers from a broad selection or something, while an engineer just got to pick any six tech powers.

Yeah, Tactical Cloak + Cryo ammo + Disruptor ammo + Sticky Grenade + Sabotage + Incinerate makes sense for Infiltrator, but something like Cloak + Marksman + Recon Mine + Drone + Submission Net would similarly evoke the whole high-tech guile thing Infiltrators are supposed to have.

I think it'd be neat if the single-player classes were separated only by their ~iconic~ powers and passives (if even that) and you had a lot of latitude to pick-and-choose everything else

garrus is not a nice looking turian

I've never liked his face. Back when my brother and I would play ME1, we'd call him crapface.

I've always felt insulted that bioware might have actually though I'd want to do Garrus. His romance is nothing but sex, but why would I want to hit that?

I always make fun of people who say they want to do him or have done him. I call him a raptor

I think if anything the only thing I admired about his appearance is his impressively cinched waist and protruding hip bones. I really liked that about turians

maybe you would have liked it better if shepard hadn't been railroaded into close friendship with certain characters (garrus, tali, liara)

the whole "I'm not actually attracted to humans, but crave intimacy with my one close friend" schtick garrus's romance has might have come off better if his friendship were something players chose to cultivate

But regardless of all that, I think it was a mistake to have FemShep be so lascivious about the romance (much like with jacob) rather than having her reciprocate with "I'm not into turians either but I'm really lonely and you're one of the few people I trust"

Though there was a bit of that and I don't know that it really worked. Maybe if so much of his characterization from me1 hadn't just been dropped, so that their strong history together would have more context.

I understood fandom attraction to garrus as a reaction to the way the straight-male-gaze-friendly alien nerdbait in ME1 wasn't matched by similar straight-female-gaze-friendly alien nerdbait, but once bioware made drell - who, like asari, are actually attractive - to fill that role, it's a tad weirder to see people professing attraction to a spiky armored cat-lizard-bird-lobster-thing.

Yeah that's what they were trying to go for, the whole "I'm not really into your species but for you I'll make an exception cause we're such intimate friends" thing

It could've worked if it was applied both ways, but it really wasn't. Shepard was really overly aggressive and assertive about the whole thing, which was why I could never go through a single play through with a Garrus romance. I actually felt uncomfortable at times with how insistent Shepard was for him to break out of his usual preferences just so he'll have sex with her. Friendship or no. His romance along with tali felt very shoed in and both had to be simplified to the common denominator of the need for sex. Literally for both romances 90% is talking about the prospect of sex. It really didn't feel like and really detracted from their characterizations from the first game

I think what happened was that bioware misread the fans' reactions towards Garrus and Tali and interpreted their requests for genuine romance with sex at the end as a need for just smut (since nearly every love sub plot tends to lead to sex at some point).

I get that fanboys and fangirls can overreact and even get pushy when it comes to requesting things for their favorite characters. I was actually leaning towards a Garrus romance myself after the first game and I would've liked the prospect of it mainly in a platonic sense. No way in hell did I want an actual love scene out of it but I understand the fans' request for one.

I just wish bioware had filtered it out better so they could've written the romances to please the fans without sacrificing character continuity. The whole thing just irked me

Lascivious female Shepard is a disturbingly common theme in her romances. Kaiden, Garrus, Jacob, Vega. What the hell

but yeah it's weird that they so often weirdly present FemShep as this kind of sex kitten person?

with  jacob, obviously, but also with garrus and occasionally kaidan, plus Traynor

There were originally only twinges of that with Thane, but I guess that went out the window with the dry-humping in ME3

MaleShep is only like that with Mranda (and only in a couple of dialogs) so it's not equitable

I wonder if the male writers just have an ingrained "storng female protagonist -> must be sexually assertive and dominant regardless of circumstances, in order to convey strength" impulse

yeah well i don't really mind a "romance" being about just sex or not being about sex at all. i'd really be happy to see an asexual relationship if they could have pulled it off?

but with Garrus it's just impossible cause his entire character is - duuuh crappy one liners, assumed close friendship and some hinted tension with his police work/family/whatever. i just never understand where all the things about Garrus come from, i don't see the inner logic in what they were doing with him

i don't see the problem with people enjoying it or with the romance existing, except for when his friendship is a default for everyone and i just end up eating up the content that other people wanted. where do i unsubscribe from garrus

I dislike how you have the option to be so disinterested and rude in people's loyalty missions

Like in jacks, you basically coax her killing that guy because you feel she's taking to long

It's just petty and odd
You're taking too long.. we need to finish up here, fly to this other place and some other revenge killing...

There's no real thing that Shepard is doing to justify that kinda attitude in Shepard or the player.
I think they also just write Shepard as impatient cause they don't know what else to do

shooting falere after samara shoots herself is still worst renegade choice

also shooting shiala

those hapless batarian looters on Omega in me2

so many pointless murders

various points where the "make tuff choices" premise of Renegade is supplanted by outright psychopathy

the lazarus/cerberus plotline might have ended up being dumb, but I think the prologue of ME2 (the loss of the SR1 and Shepard's death) was some really nice choreography and visual work.

very pretty, very visceral

great use of scale (stepping out onto the ruined upper deck and being enfolded by the vista of Alchera is a great moment)

genuine sense of trauma and violence

ME3's prologue is obviously terrible and ME1's suffered from lack of polish.

ME2 has the best prologue in much the same way that ME1 has the best finale.

I see the ****** when she's in her black Cerberus suit. I hate it so much because it's so obvious they must have modeled it in

I think Miranda has a ****** too but I'm not 100% sure. Must have combat advantages

Edit: wow really it's censored what if I was really talking about a camel's toe
