Well, If we're actually talking sense rather than snark, there's twitter canon that they're not asari. And the kid in the stargazer 2 vid sounds male to me. But hey, if you want to believe they're asari, go for it.

Hey, no snark. The child does not have to be hers.

Well, regarding the OP, I don't think I'd like the blunter hunter backstory idea. However, one of my favorite types of heroes in literature is the unlikely hero. Not necessarily an antihero or a Byronic hero, but just a normal person, placed in under extraordinary circumstances who rises to the occasion rather than fleeing or succumbing to fear against overwhelming odds.

I have always been fond of this type of hero, because this happens to normal people in the world all the time. People are capable of far more than they give themselves credit for - so with respect to a new ME protagonist, I'd really like it if he/she wasn't the cliche "military" lets kick some ass and take names type. Obviously some sort of background exposure to combat would be necessary for gameplay purposes, but not necessarily a career military background. I do like the idea of a mercenary background that people have brought up, as the job implies a sort of "in it for the money" sort of selfishness that is not typical of a traditional hero type.

But honestly, I don't really care what they do- but I do hope that they stick to their guns and avoid the same Alliance military route.

Other than scrapping the MEU and starting fresh, I'd like the new protag to be 1. human and 2. canon first named (with the 2 gender thing). I'm tired of my closest friends and lover calling me 'Commander'. He/She should be a mercenary captain and missions would have several paths to completion dictated by which faction's goals you supported. At the end of the game, there should be no 'choose your outcome no matter your previous behavior', the ending should be dictated by the choices you've made leading up to that point. The setting shall be several hundered years after high EMS destroy, with a working relay network and the collapse of the citadel council system. Racial empires shall be the order of the day, with a galactic general war between the factions brewing. Our job is to either 1.stop the war or 2.favor a side and bring about the war.

Actually I think what I'd like even more than what I previously said would be an explorer background. I miss the sense of exploration of Mass Effect 1. A vast galaxy, some worlds barren, some worlds full of strange alien life. Just invent a reason why: need to explore off the relay network, discover relay to a new galaxy built by a long lost race attempting to escape the reapers - don't care.

Honestly, it's predictable, but this series needs a fresh new start to come close to capturing the awesomeness of the last trilogy. Whatever Bioware decides to do, I have high hopes that they can pull it off. Im doing another trilogy run right now, midway through ME2. I've always considered ME2 my favorite game, but I keep thinking about ME3. I think I actually prefer ME3 (with all DLC) more than ME2 (with all DLC). With the exception of the ending, I loved all of the game. Including Priority: Earth, although yes that could have been done better - but it didn't keep me from enjoying it.

So, it's been awhile since the ME3 backlash and honestly, I think the series is going to be just fine and ME:Next is going to be awesome.

I want it to be like Game of Thrones. I'll set the scene
The Protheans survive through Stasis Pods and establish a Galactic Kingdom but the Reaper threat is still out there despite now becoming a myth.
Relations between humans and protheans are frosty at best and its up to you to end the conflict in some way.
It would work because:
a) its an alternate universe so the endings are moot
B) moral choices and melodrama (things that Bioware does best)
c) Its plausible for these events to occur
d) we can still have Garrus and Wrex in some way

My wish is that the new protagonist is a space archeologist. That would be cool.

B-B-B-B-But.. archaeologists have no business indulging in combat, they should go & dig prothean sites which suites them  ;)

I'd like to be like a shuttle pilot or a mako driver or something. I'd start out like that guy in ME1 who went for a nap when the geth attacked eden prime. I'd wake up after something catastrophic -- but on a small scale -- happened and go, "what the hell?"

I'd get blamed for the event but be given 24 hours to prove my innocence, so then I'd hop in my shuttle (or mako) and go after the truth, with the cop who busted me tagging along so I couldn't just run away... and that's where the game begins.

I think a more personal smallscale enemy is more interesting than all consuming demons and mindless zombies.

The Reapers feelt fairly impersonal. It was more like one of those end of the world things where you try to stop an asteroid from smashing Earth to bits and pieces.

I can understand why they threw Cerberus into the mixture because it's hard to have a meaningful interaction with something like the Reapers. Which is why I agree that I would like to see something more basic from Bioware, rather than the massive naturamdissaster from Bioware.

I can see that Inquisition will be another massive natural/fade dissaster that's happening and you have to save the world from the allpowerful fade. Which is inhabited by very singleminded creatures that embody singular extreme concepts of different ideals. In other words, space natzisis from a religious fade realm with a chip on their shoulders.

Inquisition is set, but I'm hoping Bioware can shake thigns up a little with the next mass effect, and let us breath the world they are creating rather than hunting massive steel and flesh demons.
I think people loved Citadel because it provided a nice break fromt he mold and allowed them to explore another side of the Mass Effect universe without the "Reapers" blowing things up all around them.

It can't be a coincidence that the most popular content and DLC, has been those that has very little to do with "Reapers".

The Reapers were also somewhat of a stretch as an enemy in squad-based ground combat. On the rare occasions that you fight an actual Reaper (as opposed to huskified versions of other species) outside a cutscene, there's always some outlandish contrivance to make it possible for Shepard's squad to win (the "weak points" in the human Reaper in ME2, Kalros on Tuchanka, the targeting laser on Rannoch, etc.).

I just want them to go forward, with a sequel, going prequel wouldn't interest me as much.

That's my only worry, how they'll get past the ending.

My wishes for ME4 are quite trivial and situational.

Take ME2 for instance. I pretty much always run around with a big ass collector gun on my back. Nobody notices... how cool would it be if some random NPC in a random hub stopped you and asked about your weird ass gun? How much cooler would it be if this really was a random guy, and not the same NPC everytime you play the game?

It's those kind of things I want.

It's those kinds of things I've always wanted in games -_-

In other words, reactivity. I agree, and I like that Gaider has spent time talking about an increased focus on reactivity on Inquisition: special lines for your race, special lines for your class, special lines for past decisions, etc. Engineers splooged big time at the engineering-specific interrupt in the Omega DLC; considering the positive reaction and that Montreal (the ME4 guys) did Omega, it's possible we'll be seeing more expansive versions of that.

My vote is still for a small scale story similar to Firefly with no pretenses to galaxy altering events or grand war narratives
