Is there anyone who'd object to being a pirate, or pirate type character?
No, and I'd like to see how they'd implement the morality system with that kind of character (that is, if they aren't tossing that out the window).

just have Paragon be the charming rogue like Han Solo, and have the Renegade be like a bad ass anti-hero like Kurt Russell in Escape from NY with some sick one-liners.No, and I'd like to see how they'd implement the morality system with that kind of character (that is, if they aren't tossing that out the window).
- Press X to tase civilian.
- Access inventory
- Retrieve pacification implant
- Press X to jam pacification implant through skull and into brain
- Proceed to market
...I think I'll pass, thanks.
(For the record, the "pacification implants" are referred to, though not by name, by Talitha in the ME1 quest I Remember Me. "They put the metal to their backs, put the wires in their brains... you go too far, they take your brains away!")
(Also, "She doesn’t want to be here anymore. In the pen. In the cages. Lying quiet while they... do things to her!"
...F to the uck no.)
.... no one said it had to be a slaver.
But, it is an RPG. Sooooooooooooooo
That's what pirates are in the MEU. Always have been..... no one said it had to be a slaver.
But, it is an RPG. Sooooooooooooooo
that's quite the generalization. I'm pretty sure Jack was some sort of a Pirate at one point. Sure, she was a hardcore Renegade....but a slaver? I don't see it.That's what pirates are in the MEU. Always have been.
I could see being part of a Firefly-esque group of smugglers, but not pirates.
Why not? She was a mass murderer. Slaving is not too far from that.
I've no interest in a sequel where synthesis is canon.
Nor me, I was only musing on how geth could have emotions.
Yeah, it would be tricky. I'd be okay with a much more limited range of expression for a Geth PC though, as long as there's also some exclusive lines/actions in return.
I think they'd pretty much have emotion. It's down to whether the player would recognize geth to have genuine or natural emotion/intelligence. (I personally would)
I'll put it this way - I don't think green circuitry on everything and green glowing eyes, in peace with the Reapers, is canon for the next game.
If, and I'm only saying if, synthesis were the choice going forward, I would hope even Bioware would agree that's a terrible way to represent synthesis.
Personally I would hope for a destroy ending as the basis of a new game. In that sense, we might see a new form of synthetic with emotions implemented somehow, perhaps done by the salarians, or again by the quarians.

Paragon-Renegade right there.
It's Firefly that gave me the idea.
they're not one in the same. And labeling every pirate as a murderous slaver, is a bit extreme. And very far-fetched.Why not? She was a mass murderer. Slaving is not too far from that.
Is it such a stretch? She does admit to kidnapping, murder and piracy. Provided she isn't full of **** of course.that's quite generalization. I'm pretty sure Jack was some sort of a Pirate. Sure, she was a hardcore Renegade....but a slaver? I don't see it.
the extreme viewpoints are funny. You're acting as if every pirate is murdering slaver carbon copy of Jack. What is this?Is it such a stretch? She does admit to kidnapping, murder and piracy. Provided she isn't full of **** of course.
"Everybody wants something, and because of that, everything is fair game. Murder, assault, kidnapping, drugs, stealing, arson, done it all - and that's the boring ****. Piracy, theft of military equipment, destruction of a space station, and vandalism - that was a good one."
"You were a pirate, too?"
"Ties in with the kidnapping. If you hijack a passenger ship and don't kill everyone, anyway. Good lesson, simpler to just kill them all."
I think it'd be fantastic to play Jack in a new game. Start out not giving a crap about anything but surviving one day to the next, and then growing from there.
Disney has screwed with people's perception of what pirates were and are. Slaving is part and parcel of the trade, and such is the case in the MEU. IIRC Aresh says he was bought from Batarian pirates by Cerberus.
Once again, Paragon-Renegade.
A system which needs to go away regardless of who we play as in the next Mass Effect title.Once again, Paragon-Renegade.

It'll be fine.
so, there were some Batarian 'slavers'.....so what?Disney has screwed with people's perception of what pirates were and are. Slaving is part and parcel of the trade, and such is the case in the MEU. IIRC Aresh says he was bought from Batarian pirates by Cerberus.
Piracy in the MEU, when they don't bother with taking slaves, is what we saw the Blue Suns doing on the Strontium Mule in ME2. Board the ship, kill everyone, maybe a bit of torture for information, take their stuff.
A system which needs to go away regardless of who we play as in the next Mass Effect title.
I'm fine with it as long as they build it as a Reputation system (which I always thought was the original idea back in ME1) and not a morality one.
...and definitely not have the persuasion options tied to it.

Indeed. Morality systems in general are pretty crappy.
I think as always, they'll adjust things.
There's an artistic reason for Para/Rene, not just mechanically. The key is to make it enjoyable enough for people, and that's been hit and miss. I think the Reputation system was a good thing for at least ME3 specifically. At least if we were without it, things might have REALLY sucked.
That's a very good point.
A note though - I personally believe that Thane's flashbacks were due to his specifically traumatized and trained mind.
I'd accept having another Drell party member, tbh. But I still really want to play one.
I think they will. Just not in the way/for the reasons that most think. Whatever though, we'll see.
I guess refuse and low ems would have to be declared non-canon if they ever make a sequel, but I am not so sure about the rest. I think smaller plots would work just fine without canonizing anything else. Synthesis can be downplayed a bit (green skin glow has worn off), the genophage is cured later, no huge story arc on Rannoch, etc.
