I'm having an issue with the Dragon Age Origins: Content Updater that is installed in services.msc. I've looked at other threads and no one seems to have the same issue; I apologize if this has been fixed in a prior thread.

To find it on your own PC:

Windows button + R
Type "services.msc" into the Run window, push "OK"
It will show the Services
Scroll down until you see "Dragon Age Origins: Content Updater"
Right click - select properties
Look at the "Path to executable"

The "Path to executable" in my Services is:
c:\\Games\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

When the actual file it's looking for is here:
g:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

I purchased Dragon Age: Origins Digtal Deluxe Edition on Steam. Everything was working perfectly until I got a new harddrive. I uninstalled my steam games, including DA:O and reinstalled them onto my new drive. Everything worked great, except I when I logged into my DA:O account I couldn't access my DLC ("Unauthorized"), ergo I couldn't play my saved games.

After speaking with the DA:O Tech Support, they told me to "log in with the correct account". I only have one account! They also sent me a link to this page:

http://help.dragonag...p?p_faqid=23666

The relevant part is:
  • If you are a Steam customer, you should be able to run the updater manually by going under C:\\\\\\\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Dragon age origins\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe
I went to where the file was located in my directory and tried to run it. It said it couldn't run the service. So I looked into the services.msc and found that the problem was that my "Path to executable" was still pointing at the old location. You cannot change this setting, it's a "security feature". I've uninstalled and reinstalled Dragon Age to no avail, it will not correct the Dragon Age Origins: Content Updater. Even when DA:O is completely uninstalled from my PC, the Dragon Age Origins: Content Updater remains in my Services.

I don't know what to do at this point, my game is essentually broken. I doubt I will be able to download future DLC and can't play my saved games.

Any help is greatly appriciated!

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the service itself? There are instructions in section 3.2.4 of the Redeemed DLC Troubleshooting FAQ

Here's the relevent section, but it refers to other parts of the FAQ, so you might want to check out the whole thing.

1.)
Windows XP : Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type cmd and press ENTER
Windows Vista & 7 : Run CMD as administrator as per section 3.1.5

2.)
Naviguate to c:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727\\
Perform these commands to do so (your prompt should be in Windows\\System32 by default) :
net stop DAUpdaterSvc
cd..
cd Microsoft.NET
cd Framework
cd v2.0.50727
installutil /u "C\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe"
installutil "C\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe"
net start DAUpdaterSvc

Make sure to use the path where your game is actually installed (something like c:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Dragon Age\\ for Steam for exemple)

In case you don't have the exact same Framework version, etc... the Framework path won't work, perform a normal file search in Windows for the file installutil.exe and note the full path and substitute your own folders to match.

In your case on the uninstall step, with the /u you might need to use the old path to the service.

Thank you so much! This worked! After following the steps you provided I had to go into services.msc and set the Updated to start Automatically and then it worked great.

I realize this is an old thread and people with problems may have already found the help they needed.

I still would like to tell you about what helped me figure it all out, though, as the tips already provided in this thread didn't work for me.

I'm running Windows 7 x64, by the way.

Running the services management tool or any of the other relevant files as Administrator still didn't allow me to change the path to where I had moved the updater.

However, I was able to edit the path to the updater from using the registry editor.

Here's a quick rundown of what I found:

1. Run the Registry Editor by typing regedit in the Windows Run menu.

2. Navigate through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, system, services, and then down to DAUpdaterSvc.

3. From there I doubleclicked the ImagePath node and pasted the path to where the relevant file currently resides on my system. (In my case it was E:\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe)

4. Press OK and close the Registry Editor.

Now when I launch services.msc and attempt to start the Dragon Age Updater service, it works like a charm!

I hope this can help anyone who has run into this issue.

Thank you so much, Haukeland! This worked for me, I had no DLC showing up at all, and it was a directory problem, the updater linking to an old one. Now everything shows up wonderfully. Finally.
