The problem as I see it with the alternate characters is, for me anyway, we aren't given any reason to kill the mains off in ME2 other than "LOL I iz stupid!"

Even a Renegade Shepard would want a team for a suicide mission to be at their best and ready to fight.

There are some characters during the Suicide Mission that seem like a good fit, but aren't. If you pick Zaeed as 1st Team leader, the vents person will die, no matter if loyal or not. If you pick Miranda to do the bubble, one of the squad mates will die, no matter if loyal or not. Tragic casualties. So, it's not because of "stupidity", both Zaeed and Miranda seem like a good choice for the job. Can't know they aren't, hehe!

It's super easy to get rid of Tali and Mordin that way without the lol effect and is totally what I'll do in my current run :D

Instead of jumping on the elevator right away carrying the council, wait a few moments. That's what I did. James will say "You're on point, Commander. Go!". I also had Javik with me. Also Kaidan was with the council.

I've done it before and don't recall hearing anyone say anything.  Ashley was the one with the council. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I just did that mission with Ashley as VS, Liara and Edi on my squad. Liara said that they would cover me.

(Not exactly, I'm playing in german, and the line was "Wir geben Ihnen Feuerschutz!", which should be translated from "We provide covering fire!". Of course, this doesn't make any sense whatsoever in that scene...)

It's kind of fitting: "I was the only one to make it out alive" is his favourite line, after all.

What I don't get is how Jakob suddenly qualifies as a team leader. I'd rather even pick Tali than him.

When visiting the hospital for the fist time, Dr. Chakwas is seen talking with Dr. Michel. If the player activates Dr. Michel first she will say, "Here's Shepard now". If Dr. Chakwas is activated first, Dr. Michel will not make that comment.

Listen to Zaeed's stories, and you quickly realize he's not good at leading a team. He's good at surviving, but not at leading a team. He's not leadership material.

He treats his men like parts of a machine, and doesn't really care if they break in the process.

Mordin's a little more subtle. "'Hold the line!' Never cared for that myself. Much prefer to get the job done and go home." That's a subtle indicator that he should *not* be left to 'hold the line' at the last decision point.

Miranda's a generalist. She's ideal for team leader, heck, even her in-game skills point this out. But what's needed at The Long Walk is a biotic specialist, a powerhouse.

The pros and cons they list match the tools' stats in ME1, and I always want Shepard to ask why neither of them is using the Savant model.

I just like how he looks from one to the other like ... what the hell are you guys talking about?

I don't usually like the Hollywoody bullshit about asking the nerd to talk in 'normal english' but Shepard's reaction (or just simple head tracking) was in character in this scene.

Besides, he's a Commander. He should know about the **** he is wearing on his combat suit.

In my first playthrough I lost my tube specialist, for reasons I couldn't figure out (first picked Legion, then reloaded and tried Tali, both died). I assumed I'd picked the wrong person for that role. What it actually was is that I'd lost Miranda's loyalty with the Jack argument and I'd picked her (Miranda) as fireteam leader. She'd made a reasonable argument for being the team leader and it's not like I expected loyalty to matter when her own neck was on the line, at least unless it was a Shepard vs Cerberus situation.

Apparently if you get the FBA couplings after you recruited Tali, she will join playing poker.

Zaeed is highly anti-social and lost control of the Blue Suns without even noticing it was happening. Miranda is a biotic true but hardly on par with Jack or Samara/Morinth.

Neither of them are a good pick over the other options available.

I think it is just me. I can't bring myself to kill my team on purpose.

There's a few things that I noticed playing through Mass Effect 3 again that I never noticed before:

If you prevented Jack from killing Aresh on Pragia on her loyalty mission, you get an email that reads that he saved a shuttle full of children who were evacuating Elysium from reaper forces.

In the beginning, the Memorial Wall in the holding docks on the Citadel has far fewer pictures than later on. It is a small thing and it totally makes sense but I never noticed it before.

If you steal the 'husk head' from Dr. Bryson's lab in Leviathan, the head shows up in your cabin on the Normandy. I very much regret doing this because now when I say 'hi' to my Space Hamster, the head turns to it and screams (even when you don't interact with the thing) and scares my poor hamster back into his house. My poor Space Hamster now lives a life of horror because I made a bad decision and just had to swipe that ugly head!

I absolutely love this game! I can't believe I am still finding new things all these play-throughs later!

Don't pick the persuade option with the Asari. Take the upper right side option.

Spoiler

I loved that line from the asari. I just had to do it one time and it caused me to blow Samara's loyalty mission so that I had to reload but it was totally worth it.

Was doing an Alliance-only squad run.. or at least until Virmire. Going to pick up Liara last.

While on Noveria, after finishing the peak 15 tram puzzle,

Kaidan : "He killed himself over what happened here?"

Ashley : "Damn shame. God only gives you one life."

Was she this way if you bring her everywhere? Just curious.

I just realized in a funny sort of way (and it's something I discovered, but others probably noticed it long before I did lol)

Control = the path TIM took

Synthesis = the path Saren wanted to take

Destroy = ??? I would say the only path never before taken by those who spent a long time around Reaper artifacts

I want to say that and that's always my chosen path as Shepard lol and that's also why it is, because it's the one path the others failed to take

That and Shepard goes through the entire game saying "destroy kill destroy!"

I know other people are going to disagree but it feels out of character for my Shepard to choose Control after saying that and Synthesis...no thanks.

Yes I feel the same, and though others don't and I respect that, I also noticed the Catalyst hinting that the best path is not as recommended even though the option was there. When he talks of synthesis, he pauses and enunciates the word "force" and despite telling you, you're ready, it left me feeling like he was telling me this choice will be forced on all life even if they are not ready. I don't know, I just see it that way and never noticed his words before unlike my last playthrough.

You can also look at Synthesis and Control as Shepard doing it right where Saren and TIM did it wrong lol but to me, it doesn't feel right, especially after her preaching to both Saren and TIM  about destroying the Reapers being what needed to be done and not being ready for that kind of power despite having reached their technological peak.

Indeed, too bad Shepard wasn't smart enough to shoot it from the distance instead of going Kamikaze. Oh well, they survived.

It's what the little devil wants, not trusting that. It literally IS being forced on all life. If anything, the Geth would want that, wait, not even the Geth since they want to choose their own path despite the Reaper augmentation.

Ugh, none of it makes sense which is why my canon ending will always be Destroy because it's the path I opted to always follow. I won't even go into it and derail this thread; I can go on ALL day.

lol yeah I don't want to derail it either, it's just I never noticed that before myself. I guess I look at it this way. If I believed Saren's pov, then Synthesis would be my choice, if I believed TIM's pov, then Control would be my best option. I'm just glad we got the options at all, and it doesn't end with Shepard becoming a Reaper or her body being turned into a life energy without a say from us lol

I thought by choosing Control in my Renegade playthrough that my Shep would turn into a reaper beyond Harbinger and command them.

I was disappoint.

The way I look at it, the right decision can be any of the three depending on your feelings about Shepard's personality, their choices to date and the state of the Galaxy at the time. Each runthrough, I decide on an ending at the start and then play my Shepard through the game in such a way that that decision makes the most sense at the end.  It's possible to do that for all the endings, IMO. Although, my personal preference has always been Control :)

Oh I completely agree. If my Shepard was the type to side with Saren or TIM's pov, she would most likely make the same choice as they did, but do it right and not become controlled like they were. I tend to play my Shep as if I was making the choices, so I was nearly full Paragon and prepared to kill them because it was the right thing, but in my new playthrough I am playing one that isn't so good and actually likes TIM and wants to finish what he started, but without sacrificing humanity.

I would have loved that! I could also see Renegade Shep getting revenge on Harbinger and becoming the ultimate leader in control of the galaxy, and taking him over lol

Yes although I never thought of Saren. I just figured that if Shepard wasn't going to rewrite the geth heretics then he/she wasn't going to rewrite the whole freakin' galaxy. B)
