When I went after the GPR that one game, I'd never previously played ME2 above normal difficulty, and Haestrom was tough. I will say I was kinda proud of myself for getting through it without dying once, heh. But the payoff -- the rifle -- was completely underwhelming.

I'm not sure why Haestrom would be difficult. If you have Energy Drain as a bonus power that mission is fairly easy even on insanity. (You should do Anomalous Weather first to get the  Hard Shield upgrade.) Just don't tell RedCeasar how much you used ED. ;)

Well, I'm the kinda guy who learns a lot of bad habits playing most of the time on easy difficulty. Transitioning from that straight into a hardcore mission was, for me... problematic. But I didn't die once. Not once. I credit being inspired by Reegar: "I'm not gonna die from changing the difficulty for one mission. That's just insulting!"  :D

I don't remember which BP I used actually, it was quite some time ago. I wanna say inferno grenades, but... *shrug*

I've only done 2 insanity runs in ME2 and the rest at normal. Where in the mission is the rifle located?

Right at the end of the mission, in the same room where you find Tali. You have to stay on hardcore/insanity for the entire mission in order for the rifle to appear.

Geth pulse rifle is kind of a crappy rifle anyway... err, just my opinion  :D ... considering you have to play Haestrom on hardcore or insanity to get it. Alright for some, heh. I'm a casual difficulty kinda guy... most of the time. Especially in ME2. Combat's fun and all, but it's fun enough for me on casual. I did play Haestrom on hadrdcore once, just to try out the rifle. Maybe if I hadn't gotten the Mattock first, I might have appreciated it a little more.

I didn't know about that as I always play Insanity, or Hardcore if I want a break, and thought it was available on any difficulty.

But I agree that it's crappy in ME2.   Mattock and Vindicator are heaps better.

Me3 MP though it's (GPR) really handy on some classes.

Edit: @ Mike - the GPR is in the final room where Tali is working. It's leaning against a wall or table iirc.

Using Energy Drain does not bother me at all.

Using on the Adept class to the exclusion of all your other powers does bother me? Why even bother playing as an Adept if all you are going to use is Energy Drain? Whyyyy?

While we're on the topic of Haestrom, I just saw something I hadn't noticed before. During one of my fights with the Colossus on hardcore the Colossus actually huddled up into its repair mode after being hit by a rocket from Kal Reegar. (33:45) I hadn't seen it do that since the very first time I played (blind) when I tried to take it out from that balcony where you open the shutters. I had come to assume that it only did that repair thing when you shot at it from very far away.

Well, considering Kal did fire from far... I just played this mission today and Kal says that you needed to get close to destroy the Colossus...

Oh, and if you let Kal take all of the Colossus' Shields, he dies... I always thought it was based in letting him shoot missiles (Death... Well, not instantly, but after a few hits to the Colossus, like two or three) or going into cover (Live).

I also discovered that Harkin's voice actor is the same that voices Adams.

Kal Reeger dies because Shepard took too long to destroy the Colossus. I did that one time without moving forward and he died a short time later. You can hear him over the earpiece, aaargh.

Balcony path on Haestrom is the easiest. I once tried to push through the middle... Didn't end well :D

The music used when looking at the artifacs in the Thessia temple is the same as that used during the investigation element in Dr Bryson's Lab.

I think he says that even if you told him to stay down. I always figured it was some sort of quarian victory cry :D

I was curious to see what happened if you let the escape pods during Turian Platoon get destroyed. I only managed to have one destroyed. The other one must have either glitched out and repaired itself everytime the Harvester turned around to look at us, or that is how the first encounter is supposed to go. At any rate, only one of the two pods was destroyed, for the other one my squad drove off the Harvester before it could destroy the pod. After the one pod was destroyed Liara commented that it was too bad that we weren't able to save the Turians. Then when we got to Victus instead of saying "Thank you for saving so many of my men," he said "Thank you for saving my men," to which one of the Turians responded "what's left of them."

I haven't done that. Do you know if that affectes war assets at all? If not, I will do that otherwise I won't since I'm doing a playthrough to get as many assets as possible

I don't know. It's late and I need to sleep, but maybe tomorrow I'll check. The Blackwatch is usually 75 points. I guess my next mission will be the bomb, after which I will check to see if it is still 75 points.

Added: I just checked the wiki and it doesn't say anything about additions or subtractions to this war asset.

Whoa so you mean you can have Kal help you without it always leading to his death? Challenge accepted, ME2.

Also if you wear the recon hood in the Geth Squadron mission: when you "remain still" while Legion gets you to the consensus, your lights on your recon hood will flash.

Actually, the "aaargh" is after destroying the Colossus, even if he's still alive. I just heard it when killing it.

Well, maybe it's a different "aargh" but, I'm 100% sure that Kal does the "aaargh" when he is alive too.

Edit: @ Valmar: Yuup.

He says it both times. When destroying the Colossus and dying. One is in a cheering way and the other is in agony just as he dies

Aftert defeating Wasea, returning to the spaceport and talking with Niftu Cal (Pitne's For trading partner), he'll thank you and also mention your name. But problem is that Shepard never told him his/her name.

@Mike: Oh, ok. It's because I just had him die once in my playthrough, long ago, so I didn't properly remember it. Thx for clarifying it :)

Edit: Also, after completing the Reaper IFF mission, going to the Bridge and speaking to EDI, it (she) will say that the installation is more difficult than it thought and the crew is working on it... Also, that will alert Shepard when it's ready for Shakedown.

Kal Reeger dies because Shepard took too long to destroy the Colossus.

I'm not even sure if it is tied to the time you take to reach/kill the Colossus.

I now believe that the it's the Colossus always targets Shep, unless you are in cover/out of sight for too long.

So you can keep Reegar alive, if you 'just' allow the Colossus to target you for long enough.

On the other hand, Haestrom is one of the missions that has always behaved strange for me....
