There isn't much lore-wise, the real spoilers will just spoil the book for you.  The only *major* revelation is how the Eluvians work--they open onto another world (that is pleasant for elves but somewhat inimical for humans) that connects them together.  It's a big fast-travel system, pretty much.

So the point is they don't just connect to each other -- they connect to that place Morrigan was referring to in Witch Hunt as that which lies Beyond the Fade. Where she apparently went (possibly with the Warden, in some Witch Hunt endings).

What is "that place" like, and why is it friendlier to elves and more inimical to humans?

This is a lore matter I've long been wondering about.

Companion? Not really- there was a Chavalier whose dark secret was that he was actually part elf by blood. Gaspard agrees to cover it up out of respect for valor. I wouldn't bet on him being a Chavalier companion, but I admit I'm not tracking on how many hints we do/do not have about the remaining companions.

Involved? Certainly. Celene and Gaspard are obvious players in the Orleans Civil War plotline that will almost certainly provide context, especially with Vivienne. Briala is probably going to be involved with the City Elf rebellion plot thread. The mysterious Fade Being who was the Dreamer's boss, and the Forbidden One, are two other fade players likely to come up again.

Also, I found it amusing how they made a point of telling the reader that Ser Michel, Celene's champion, was trained in the use of light and Heavy armor, of two-handed weapons, sword and shield and double wielding. Thanks for letting us know that class restrictions will be lifted in DAI.

I really hope that this is is true. I want to make a duel wielding warrior in Inquisition.

So...is Celene a secret mage?

"Celene’s hand wrapped around his wrist, and he cried out in pain, then lurched back. Smoke rose from his arm, and the fine cloth was scorched. He clutched the injured wrist to his chest. 'I took the throne at sixteen, Gaspard, after your wife killed my mother,' she said, holding up her hand and showing him a glittering ruby ring that crackled with fire. 'And no, I have no wish to discuss our family’s bloody history. I know it quite well, thank you.' With a twitch of her fingers, she slid a knife free from a hidden sheath on her arm. It crackled with fire as she raised it. 'And I have not ruled Orlais for twenty years with balls and banquets.'"

Or are the ring and dagger just enchanted?

You can be suspicious of Spirits but still see dealing with them as beneficial if you are cautious and are able to hussle them into getting what you want.

The problem is that you have to really good at hussling

Probably just enchanted, since she doesn't use magic at all for the rest of the novel.

Gaspard does a lot of plotting, tried to embarrass Tegan at a ball to stir up trouble with Fereldan which failed, Leliana ment up a few times over the course of the novel, Celene's champion Michel De Chiven an 1/2 elven chevailer walks into a trap and gets taken hostage as part of Gaspards plan to separate him from Celene.

Gaspard asks her to marry him and tries to kill her, she escapes, her city elf lover named Braila looks for Michel along with an ex Dalish mage named Feleasan who seems to know a lot about the eluvians, demons, the ancient elves, fen'harel, various creatures etc. They track down Michel location and help him escape but not before blackmailing him with his secert that he isn't a noble rather the chevin family patriarch saw something in him an went a master forger and spent a lot of money to do this which comes into play later on in a fairly big way near the end of the book.

The city elves rebell after someone was killed by one of the nobles in Halamsharl, Celene sends Braila to kill the noble, she goes to a play in which Gaspards people rewrote the play and used the game to hint at her having an elven love, she leaves and meets Leliana again who she previously asked the divine for help though it has a steep price. The divine promises to help with the chantry if Celene squashes the elven rebellion which she agrees to do which ends up being a foolish move since it backfires horribly.

Braila meets up with the elven rebellion and Felasan, they kill the noble, Braila gets arrested, Celene attempts to put down the rebellion and burns the slums down, Gaspard outplayed her and set up an ambush an routed her troops in which she flies and tries to reach Jader to get aide, this fails as Gaspard blockaded the roads there they seek an alternative route.

Braila gets captured by Gaspard and escapes, she meets up with Felassan again, Celene and her champion come across a village that was nearly destroyed by Jader ruler to send a message to Celene, they meet up with Braila and Felassan and they reach a decision to head to the Dalish to try and get aide and almost die in the process they get attacked by Syvalans.

The dalish want nothing to do with them or their plan nor do they care about the city elves or their rebellion, they were preoccupied with their search for the past and the eluvians, they go as far as capturing Imasheal who tries to make a bargain with Michel and he tells him about the eluvians and what they can be used for, he returns to Celene and tells her, meanwhile Braila realizes they aren't her people and that Felassan isn't like them and persuades him to help them escape and get information from Imashel he agrees.

Imasheal who is a spirit according to him tells them about the network of Eluvians that can used as a transport to send troops where they want aslong as they have the crystal, Micheal frees it after killing some of the Dalish earlier, it spares them an almost wipe out the Dalish clan, Gaspard eventually tracks them and an elven mage named Mihiris joins up with him due to what Michel did earlier and wants revenge and got possed aswell by him.

She leads him through the eluvian, they meet up with the other group and form and uneasy truce that would end when they reach the exit, they fight corpses, reveants, demon mages, a varietal, Celene tells them what she plans to do when the eluvians are under her control, the truce breaks when one of Gaspards people attack Celene in which Gaspard kills him for breaking the truce and going against his code, they reach the end after a long journey and some backstory about what the eluvians are, some stuff about the dreamers, and some other things, the eluvians are harsh on non elvenpeople and being a 1/2 blood makes it feel that you don't belong there.

Celene and Gaspard agree to have a duel for the crystal, and agree to terms she choses her champion to fight Gaspard, while the duel was going in IImasheal tried to interfer after possessing a mage in Gaspards group, Braila notices this and stabs the mage Lunaune de Montsimmard, Imasheal and Felassan talk, something happens with his tattoos and this interests the spirit who leaves, the duel continues, Micheal was going to win but Braila called in her favor, he dropped his sword the duel ended, Braila asked Celene where she got the ring from and asked Gaspard the same. Celene got it after taking part in the game which killed Braila parents, Braila who earlier decided that she would stop at nothing to aide the city elves no matter what gains control overall the crystal and sends Gaspard, and Celenes parties away and keeps control over the crystal for the city elves.

Gaspard eventually takes Val Royeueax, Celene is in Halamsharl very weakened and has almost nothing, Braila doesn't tell Felasan the phrase to control the eluvians, Micheal is hunting Imasheal, at the end Felasan dreams and talks with an entity that's possibly Fen Harel, he doesn't know the phrase, says Braila should get a chance, the entity kills him.

The dagger isenchanted, the ring is enchanted aswell and was a gift from Lady Mantillion

Ser Michel is very skilled with a blade and he set out to hunt the Forbidden One. It's possible he'll be a companion but given how the seats are being quickly filled "Cassandra, Varric, Solas, Vivienne, Iron Bull, Cullen, Seras" I think it's more likely he'll be a quest giver; maybe he'll help the party fight the FO.

So it seems many people think the central "Fade Boss" of the book is Fen'Harel. Does the book, shall we say, strongly hint at this?  :)

This seems, of course, to be leading many to think, even if we have no evidence of the Maker, "FH" will turn out to be an existent being (if not exactly a 'god'), and possibly involved in the events of DAI.

Get this, the orlesians actually carefully plant entire forests in just the right manner so that the lords can hunt in them without actually having to go to actual woods and risk having their horses break their legs amongst other hunting-related incidents.

...that's sad. I mean really it's just a medieval version of those hunters who hunt in special zoos with massive advantages over their game for sport. Bleh.

Not really. The Dalish dude, who's name escapes me, just seems to hold great revereance towards it, and it straight up kills him. People have just jumped to the conclusion that it is Fen'Harel.

Why are the nations most concerned with chemical weapons and WMDs also the ones most able to use them?

Knowledge and understanding brings both comfort and fear. It's that point of knowing just how dangerous something can be, and believing you know enough to control it.

Hmmmm. My spider sense is tingling.

Never watched Dragon Age: Redemption, but ... seems there was a pivotal artifact.

http://dragonage.wik...sk_of_Fen'Harel

Mask of Fen'Harel is an elven artifact capable of tearing the Veil into the Fade, and is pivotal to the story of Dragon Age: Redemption.

Fen'Harel is an ancient elven god of trickery and nightmares, and is considered part of both the Creators and the Forgotten Ones. The Dread Wolf supposedly tricked the elven gods, good and evil, into leaving the elven people by sealing them away.

[snip]

Saarebas then took the mask and the Dalish girl to an altar at Sundermount. There, Fina's blood filled the altar, rendering the ritual complete. A portal began to open in the sky.

But before the portal opened fully, Tallis threw dagger into the mask, shattering it, effectively sealing the portal shut.

When Saarebas used the Mask to open a portal to the Fade, he addressed the Dread Wolf as if though it was able to hear him.

Trivia
The codex contains a reference to Twitter, the internet based social networking service, and the "library" it discusses refers to the internet or "world wide web" itself. The "gibberish" phrases are encoded in a simple transpose cypher, where each letter of the alphabet is shifted three places backward. The phrases maintain correct capitalization and punctuation, but are written backwards. To determine the transpose, we see that the single letter 'x' appears in lowercase, which tells us that this should be transcribed to the letter 'a'. In order, the deciphered phrases are:

-"An eclipse as Fen'Harel stirred" (that is the translation of the above cipher)

(*) "Two shadowed spheres" may be a reference to the recently noted two Moons of Thedas.

Not a 100% sure but Felassan talks quite a bit about him, in one particular conversation with Braila that someone posted about the slow arrow in which Fen'Harel is asked to kill a monster and save the village, it was supposedly extremely strong and would be very threatening to him so he fired an arrow and left the village, the monster killed the village and the arrow killed the beast.

Fen'Harel gained more infamy from this, Felassan name means slow arrow, Imasheal call him this numerous times, he even says that he wants to be the slow arrow, he also compares Braila to him a lot and he was about say something like that again but it kills him before he finished what he was saying.

As for the maker, well that's another mattter entirely and very debatable a

Not really. The Dalish dude, who's name escapes me, just seems to hold great revereance towards it, and it straight up kills him. People have just jumped to the conclusion that it is Fen'Harel.

Felassasn, it wasn't reverence though, throughout the book he constantly talked about him, he constantly compared him to Braila, his name is a reference to an story, Imasheal immediately called him slow arrow and Felassan seemed to know way to much about Imasheal and the other stuff I mentioned previously, there was quite a bit of other things, Felassans clan sounded a lot different and so did the magic he used, amoung what happened the last time Imasheal and him talked his tattoos changed and twisted which interested Imasheal abd called him Slow Arrow again.

Right when went to the realm he knew he was likely going to die, he knew there was no reasoning with it and right before he died he said you'll hate me for this but she reminds me of..... and he thinks about Braila again.

So i wouldn't say jumping to conclusions more like speculating based on the evidence provided and what he was likely going to say before he died.

Felassan's name does indeed mean "slow arrow" in Elven, and appears to be a definite reference to this legend about Fen'Harel.

The god Fen'Harel was asked by a village to kill a great beast. He came to the beast at dawn, and saw its strength, and knew it would slay him if he fought it. So instead, he shot an arrow up into the sky. The villagers asked Fen'Harel how he would save them, and he said to them, 'When did I say that I would save you?' And he left, and the great beast came into the village that night and killed the warriors, and the women, and the elders. It came to the children and opened its great maw, but then the arrow that Fen'Harel had loosed fell from the sky into the great beast's mouth, and killed it. The children of the village wept for their parents and elders, but still they made an offering to Fen'Harel of thanks, for he had done what the villagers had asked. He had killed the beast, with his cunning, and a slow arrow that the beast never noticed.

(this appears to be from Masked Empire, which I don't have/haven't read, but is now on the DA-Wiki)

Obviously, one way to delay an arrow falling from the sky unto a creature (for that long) would be for it to fly through a rip in the sky and then fall from it later.  :)

I also see in this legend a hint that Fen'Harel likes to act in a slow way, perhaps some things have been taking some time to set in motion.  ;)
