It could also be that she has the same desire as the 'elder one' but she doesn't want him to have it so she's willing to fight him for it. Hence the dragon fight in the video. My sister isn't much of a dragon age fan but she loves Sandal (go figure). She said something that I didn't even think of that would explain her 'scaring' Sandal.

She said what if Sandal is a living form of the magic in the world. It would explain how Sandal does what he does and how he knows more then he normally should. That would also explain why Flemeth keeps 'scaring' him. She knows what he really is and wants to control him or she wants to stop him from messing up her plans.

Or Sandal actually IS the Elder One in a 'larval form'!   :P

No, but seriously, I'm more content to think that Sandal is just the first dwarven mage.  It is possible that he's powerful enough to make Flemeth decide that she wants to be able to use his power for her own goals, whatever they may be.

Come to think of it, it seems like the Inquisitor isn't saved by Flemeth like Hawke and the Warden are, so, maybe, the Inquisitor is supposed to be outside of her plans?  A sort of 'unknown variable' for her schemes?  Then again, the 'glowing woman' in the Enemy of Thedas trailer could be Flemeth's Fade form, considering how she's not human, nor abomination.  Unlikely, but possible, nonetheless.

Off-topic: Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be an unspoken tradition that each DA game has a romanceable male Grey Warden?  First Alistair in DA:O, then Anders in DA2, and now Blackwall in DA:I.  Anyone else find this a bit odd?   :?

Plus, if you combine it with Sandal's prophecy in DA2 and the Enemy of Thedas trailer, I'm thinking that either 1) Flemeth is working in collaboration with the Elder One (assuming he's the main antagonist), or 2) she might've had something to do with the Elder One's appearance.  Also, if you think back to some of the other stuff Sandal says in DA2, he mentions that there's an old woman appearing at the foot of his bed that she has a 'scary laugh'.  I think that this woman is Flemeth.  tbh, it wouldn't surprise me, considering how she saved the Warden and Alistair in DA:O so that one of them could preform the DR with her, then saved Hawke and his/her family 'supposedly' to be able to escape being killed by the Warden, even if the Warden took her deal.  In the Warden's case, it could just be her planning ahead, but then, she DOES say that she was expecting the Warden and company to show up in the Wilds looking for the Warden treaties as well as saying that she expected Morrigan to convince the Warden to try to kill her, though the latter could just be Flemeth knowing Morrigan very well.  She also seemed to know ahead of time that Hawke was going to gain a lot of influence and power and be key to the Qunari problem in Act II and the beginning of the Mage/Templar war in Act III.  Whether or not she planned this for other reasons, I can't tell.

I think you're on the money with a connection between Flemeth and the Elder One.  I wonder if she might not actually be the Elder One.  What's simulating a deep masculine voice to someone who can turn into a dragon and come back from the dead...?  It might even be her "old god" voice (they are always referred to as "he").  And if she's working behind the scenes, she'd likely want to conceal such things.

I could buy that he's a mage in spite of being a dwarf - especially if he's Elven blooded as some think - but the enchanting kind of ruins that theory.  Mages can't touch enchanting-grade lyrium unless they're tranquil.  A tranquil enchanter at Ostagar tells you that.  You need to be separate from the Fade to work that stuff, so dwarves and tranquil only.

True, but then again, Sandal IS an enchanting savant.  Not to mention that he can wipe out waves of darkspawn and demons of varying types on his own.  Not sure what could cause him to have both of those abilities, but I guess we'll find out sooner or later, right?

Salamanders, if Bodahn is right that "that's where the boom comes from" :P

There's banter between them in DA2 about how Sandal is whipping up explosive enchantments.

It does bring up an interesting point about Sandal though. Between the dreams mentioned, and the fact that he shows up solo in witch hunt, and his weird prophecy, there seems to be some link between him and Flementh/Morrigan. It might explain why Bodahn tells you he won't follow you when you first meet him in Lothering, and then he does next time you're in camp.  I think he's taking cues from Sandal  :)

OT, If Flemeth and Bodahn ever have a conversation, it won't be the actors' first time interacting. Both are ex-Star Trekkers. Bodahn had a recurring role as Reginald Barclay on the Next Generation, but also guest-starred on Voyager. Flemeth's voice actress was Captain Janeway.

The only problem with that is in Dragon age 2. Even if you kill Flemeth in DA 1 she comes back in DA 2 thanks to the locket she gives Hawke. Unless the locket has some blood or a piece of her soul bonded to it. (She basically does a Voldemort and his Horcrux from Harry Potter).

Before there was a Harry Potter there was Nevewinter NIghts 2 Mask of the Betrayer that used the soul fragment idea.  Disclamer I am not sure what came first, the HP books or the game so possiblity i am wrong.  However I believe this does show that Flemeth is not immortal since she tells Hawke by completing their agreement they saved her life.  I think Flemeth is many things but a liar is not one of them.

Just to let you know nevewinter probably wasn't the first ones to use the whole soul fragment thing either. They were just the first to use them in a game. The first soul fragment I can think of is from Lord of the Rings with Sauron and the one ring. It would make me laugh to no end if Flemeth turns out to be a dark hero. You know a hero that isn't afraid of sinking down to the bad guys level in order to win. People tend to think they're bad guys as well but they actually mean well in the end.

Its amazing when you take a step back and look at all of the great ideas and theories people come up with on this site.

How not to understand what Monica means? Your entire post regarding who Flemeth really is and Solas should have been spoiler tagged. The whole thing.

Since not everyone has played Inquisition, it would be very kind of you to use spoiler tags.
