Making my unique character was always ton of fun for me. With each iteration of RPG games we can go further I think, so I want to ask: how deep will it be in DAI? Games that rely heavy on storytelling need a sophisticated character creator imo, to strenghten the player-pc bond.
With the new engine, bells and whistles, the amazing graphics we were promised - will it affect character creation? I wish it would be smimilar to the ones below... one could dream, right?

Black Desert

EvE online

Can BW answer, or tell a bit about character creation?

How important is character creation for you guys, did you spend as much time as me fine tuning Shepard, Grey Warden, Hawke (a bit lackluster)?  I know I wasted too much time doing just that.

I couldn't make an attractive person with Eve's CC no matter how damn hard I tried. And I really like playing with attractive people [ba-dum-tis]. The Black Desert one looks very complicated, cool but complicated. I have a feeling I'd never actually start playing the game cuz I'd keep trying to make the perfect character with that thing.

I would love to have this range of customization.

Show us something about CC Bioware. Move it up the priority list.

Lol @ Black Desert.

In the last five seconds, they're like "Oh yeah, we almost forgot: you can make a brown person."

I tend to spend too much time in the CC as well. I just hope they let us create the character at the very beginning of the game. I don't know how often I played through that stupid default Hawke scene because I disliked something about my Hawke and wanted to change it.

As for the EVE online character creator, I actually found it to be surprisingly limited. But anyway, the more options, the happier I shall be.

Try Mass Effect 2 where you have 10 minutes of stuff before you even start the CC.

I concur very much, especially when scenes preceding the character creation are unskippable.

Ideally though I'd like to be able to create my character before I have even heard about the game.

I really like a good character creator. It's important.

I didn't like that in DA2, you had to play as white!Hawke before you got to create your character. It gave the sense that Varric was whitewashing his story. And it kinda bothered me a bit, especially as I tend to go for characters with medium skin tones.

I would love something as good for DAI.

I hope BioWare does a better job with character creator now that they have a new engine.

Black Desert looks so cool, wow x_x

They've said that the new CC is really good. What I really hope for is  that we'll be able to see for ourselves before release like with the DAO CC that was released before the main game.

Yeah after seeing Black Desert's level of customization every other game is just like "...you call that a character creator?". No reason in 2014 we should be so severely limited but I guess some are going to say "but they won't be able to rig the mouth properly for voicing if you can customize it so much". I doubt it. :/

I generally consider character creation to be part of gameplay. So I don't think you really can spend too much time doing it. I find it really fun, and I do it a lot. Sometimes I'll fire up a game just to spend time making a character.

That Black Desert CC is really impressive. If DAI had anything remotely like it, I'd be very happy.

Sadly, with the amount of cinematics we're going to get I seriously doubt that we'll get anything other than a slightly improved version of the DAO CC.

There's not going to be a body adjuster- each race gets a female and male build. The face and hair is going to be customizable but I don't know how much. Hair you will be able to pick out and adjust color but most likely not be able to change length or texture. Like Woldan said probably more like DAO CC with more options.

Black Desert's CC looks amazing.
Too bad I don't play MMORPG 'cause most of them are on monthly fee basis.

I might play that one if it's just pay-for-once though.

Try Mass Effect 2 where you have 10 minutes of stuff before you even start the CC.

It made sense that way. Both ME1 and ME2 had CC as some part of the gameplay (profile reconstruction and Lazarus). I think it's good for immersion.

I understand what you mean about headmorph editing, though. But you only need to make a desired headmorph once, later you can just inject it into save via save-editor.

Even though I was blown away by the Black Desert character creation I'm terribly conflicted about it. I'd love to have that kind of customization but even with the character creator of DAO or DA2 I've already spent hours on end trying to create to perfect character... Or as mentioned in some posts above, watched the same intro a hundred times just to create a good looking character, because somehow they always manage to look different ingame.

Character creation is one of the highlights of the game to me. I'd love to know what kind of options we'll be getting for Inquisition. They've shown us a lot of wide shots of graphics in demos and screenshots but almost nothing close up, to see how the game stands up to face to face standards. Let's see a character creation tutorial!!!

Well, with my Shepards I think I spent more time deciding which bonus power I wanted.  I just went with whatever look I liked best/whatever look seemed to fit their background and personality.  I always managed to make them look unique.

With my Wardens, I think I spent more time deciding which voice set I wanted.  For their physical appearance, I just made them look whatever way I wanted them to look.  Again, they all managed to look unique.

With my Hawkes, I kind of breezed through them, though I spent quite a bit of time choosing classes.  Again, I just made them look however I felt like.  And again, they all managed to look unique.

I'm not really sure how I'm able to make each character look different without even thinking about it.  I mean, eye width, eye height, brow height, mouth height, chin height, nose height and width, cheekbone width, jaw width, cheek width, and neck thickness tend to be similar for each character, but everything else is different.  The similarities are so minute that it's hard to notice them.  Each of my characters is unique in their own way in their personalities, too.  They all have different quirks, different peeves, different views, different ways of thinking, etc.  I have yet to accidentally make two characters look and/or act the same way.

I really hope tattoos and/or scars are present. I felt like they added some little backstory that helped shape my characters in my mind.

I find the TOR character creator better than the Black Desert one.

My only desire for the DA:I character creator is that female qunari are actually tall and have proper horns.
