They were showing scenes from DAI at the panel, but these were the only two I could find.
We'll have to wait until a video gets posted...

People who say fanservice is always good obviously have never studied in design.
Keep trying to add "nice to have" features that people keep asking often results in a messy and incomplete design/product that ends up nowhere.
You'd think the product will be better if it has all the features that everyone wants?
Wrong. One of processes in making a good design includes cutting off all the unnecessary features and only contains what's definitely necessary for your product. That process applies to all kinds of designing, including games.
You can't please everyone. It's better to set a target group and focus on designing your product for those specific group.
Except, and this has been said before, the only time people seem allowed to get huffy about "fanservice" re: video games is when it's something perceived to be in service of female/minority fans. There's an assumption that, because a certain segment of fans want something that seems "frivolous" that it's inclusion in the game is obviously only because they wanted it. There's rarely the assumption that BW might have had plans for Cullen all along (despite the fact that his arc in DA2 stabilized his character, contrary to how everyone else in the game lost their ****), and most people don't seem to understand that including better representation of minorities is something that media should be striving to do anyway. Until BW comes out and says that a certain aspect of their game was influenced purely by fan request, we have no reason to automatically label it fanservice aside from using "fanservice" as shorthand for "something that people who aren't me want".

...that's really obtuse. Why not say "a character from Origins"? Hell, if her appearance in Asunder is enough to warrant calling her a character from that book then why not say "a character from Mark of the Assassin is appearing in the game"?
They were talking about elements of Asunder being in DAI. See this other tweet: Elements of Asunder (including a character) will be in DAI.

It makes you wonder why other important characters, eg. Rhys and Evangeline aren't returning in DAI.
Maybe we just never visit the area where they ended up, or the mage storyline is handled with different characters.
It's not like everyone from Stolen Throne ended up in DA:O, etc. At some point the characters can stay in the novels, and the universe of Bioware's games is already pretty full of coincidences and the same few dozen people appearing all over the place.

But to be fair, given the Mage/Templar arc the main cast of Asunder would be relevant to the game for that part

But with the focus on DAI, I'm honestly not expecting much on the new game...

Moreover, if Cole is in DA:I his (old) companion bio seems fairly geared towards describing his actual form, not anyone he could possess.
- A long time ago, a young man died a cruel death in a dark place. And now, somehow, there is Cole. Was he a spirit or a demon? Is he human now? Cole’s not sure it matters anymore. Hounded by memories that aren’t his, invisible in a world he can stalk like a shadow, the rogue must decide between joining the living or preying on them.
A possessed character wouldn't be invisible, and all that stuff about his identity crisis and needing to decide what he is wouldn't really make much sense if he was pretending to be someone else.

The first is simply based on my choice to have not watched or read any of the books/comics/movies. Last comic I bought was a copy of Richie Rich, in 1976. I don't watch anime, and I have a slew of books I still need to read (already purchased or borrowed). Completely my choice to have not extended into the extra media, but still. The statement gave me cause for pause.
The second hiccup, again is strictly based on my own experiences. I am terrible at stealth. It also makes me jumpy as hell. LOL! I never succeeded in using stealth in MotA, and yes I tried in earnest (spent nearly two hours on it). Thankfully, in the case of that piece of DLC, I can have "Swords for everyone!"
The stealth in DAO, I did use, but to me it wasn't exactly what I would call "stealth play". It also didn't force me to start a section over, because I was "spotted". Now, I suspect that the stealth they are implementing won't be of the 'you have been spotted, get your arse back to the beginning of the sequence'........at least I'm crossing my fingers that isn't the case.
As for everything else; thumbsup! Really looking forward to it.

@coldwetn0se
No need to worry. I sure any appearances from characters from the books will be made so that those who haven't read the book will still understand whats going on. This has been Biowares MO on this isssue and I don't see it changing.
As for stealth elements, I think just like traps, thats going to be more of a tactical ability that rogues can use in battle. I don't expect to see any actually stealthy gameplay elements from games like Metal Gear.

Hm... I'm rather conflicted over this. I'm one of those players who reads all of the ancillary content, so it will have an impact on my game and be meaningful to me. On the other hand, I know that there are players that have no interest whatsoever in those things, so I think it is unfair to them.
With past comments from David Gaider such as, "Anything introduced from those stories into future games would need to be done on the assumption someone didn't read them, so you're not required to," (link) and, "It's not impossible for characters from the books to play a part in the games-- though they'd need to be introduced in the games as if they were brand new characters, without assuming any knowledge on the part of the player," (link) I had assumed that this would be a non-issue. Obviously I'll have to see how it plays out in the actual game, but those comments aren't encouraging.
My main concern is that the Dragon Age franchise/universe will morph into how Blizzard is handling things with their Warcraft universe. There are a TON of ancillary materials, including novels, comics, manga, e-books, and online publications. They are becoming increasingly reliant on using those materials to tell the story instead of telling it to us in the game. Now, I DO realize that an MMO has different challenges where story is concerned, but the path does seem like it is there for BioWare to progress in a similar manner.
I read the WoW novels, but those are all I've read, as I have no interest in those comics or manga. In fact, the only reason I purchased the DA comics was because I could get in on the ground floor and ride along, rather than coming in half way through and having to purchase several volumes. Also, the Warcraft lore is significantly more vast than Dragon Age, with tens of thousands of years of history behind it and dozens of significant named characters, places, and events. DA isn't quite there in scope yet, but I'm sure it will be.
Right now it's easy to get a start on the Dragon Age lore and products. Soon though, it will become overwhelming for new players.
Kelly @cateia97
