Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Cullen's background been retconned? He'd murdered the younglings but then they changed that, right? So from what I can tell he's just a guy who potentially had a crush on a mage girl, then sort of went crazy, then moved for an amazing job opportunity...

What's interesting about him? And not just interesting, but interesting enough to justify having him AND a Seeker for companions? Seems like they caved to the "fans" on this one. And it seems like we have another Jacob on our hands.

A seeker is totally not the same thing as a templar. The thing is, with Vivenne being a pro-Circle, I wonder who in the party is actually supposed to be for mage freedom? The elven mage?

Nope, you're right. Templars are accountable to Seekers. Templars have no autonomy while Seekers do. Having a Seeker and a Templar as companions is like having Senior Enchanter and an apprentice as companions. It's worse than redundancy.

Nope, you're right. Templars are accountable to Seekers. Templars have no autonomy while Seekers do. Having a Seeker and a Templar as companions is like having Senior Enchanter and an apprentice as companions. It's worse than redundancy.

Cassandra is Seeker loyal to the Divine. Cullen could be a templar that left the Chantry. They might be character from (at this point) two separate organizations, with different goals.
