I'm surprised the salarians didn't take remains of the protheans on Ilos in an attempt to clone them.

Anyway, it would've made sense if the geth on Ilos were there to destroy the conduit after Saren used it, and Shepard makes it through just before they follow through with that plan.

It's possible that since relays require alignment with each other to create the corridor of mass free space, that once the Citadel was moved to Earth the Ilos-Citadel relay connection could never function again.

The problem with that idea is that nothing in space is in a truly fixed position. Even if the Citadel remains stationary in a certain cluster in the serpent nebula, the nebula itself moves throughout the galaxy. Ilos is even worse, since we have the revolution of the planet itself, and its orbit around its star in the Refuge system.

Right. Normal relays actually make constant adjustments to align with each other. But gradual and predictable movement through space is one thing, literally jumping halfway across the galaxy unexpectedly is another entirely.

I try not to think about the Conduit too much, because it only raises even more questions, and worse still, they're all asked in the Plinkett voice.

But the revolution of the planet was always the problem with the Conduit idea as well. Never made much sense.

Think about it - the Presidium conduit is rotating in a circular motion with the Citadel which is in turn orbiting the galactic center. The Ilos conduit is rotating with the planet, which is in turn orbiting around the star, which is in turn orbiting the galactic center. Both would have to be freely movable about their base in pretty much any direction to be able to properly align to create a mass free corridor of space.
